      Anthony Magnabosco
      Hey Anthony
I felt that you couldn’t fully understand or process his request for feedback.
I think he didn’t ask about if he’s „normal“ - it was much more to learn more about himself from an outside perspective.
He probably doesn’t even know, but in the psychological training to become an airline pilot, that was an important topic: the so called Johari window: www.wikizero.com/en/Johari_window
Probably just intuitively he tried to use you to reduce his blind spot. Which is a very healthy thing to do.
He’s got every tool he needs to come to a sound methods on the quest for truth. It’s really just a matter of time he fully drops his childhood indoctrination.
Looks like learning about the scientific method helped him already a lot to drop to 40%... In his culture (and all religious cultures) he actually IS an outlier. 98% of all people believe in the same god as their parents. Having dropped already to 40% emotionally and far lower intellectually, makes him part of the 2% already.
=> if you meet him another time (or Azim, if you’re reading this yourself), you should praise him for asking for feedback. This is a very healthy thing to do.
Azim - to me you’re in the top 2% of the Bell curve. Good for you!

AZ intrigued me because I have been where he is now. He has strong doubts about his god beliefs and yet is surrounded by believers that would never question or at least acknowledge that they have questions or doubts. I think that's why he is wondering why is he different, are they not seeing some of the logical fallacies in their god beliefs.
It took me a long time to realize that I am not really that different, that my doubt in a god was justified while my self doubt, in god, life and self confidence, was not. But it was a long and lonely journey until I found like minded people, whom I call friends now, to recover my self confidence and self worth.
AZ, if you are reading this, please find people and communities that are open to your way of thinking, you are not alone. If you need help in finding people, seek out the secular communities at your university or online. If you need more information, reply here or I'm sure Anthony has excellent information. I wish you the best on your journey, take care! Cheers

What a lovely guy! I could feel his discomfort. He’s been brought up in a devout household where Muslim faith and identity is important but has come to realise that the religion is unlikely to be true. This is making him feel somewhat uncertain of his foundations and NEEDS to have more conversations about alternative world views. A humanist or skeptics group may be a really good fit for him as he clearly has a good mind and wants to know what is true and live by that but is still somewhat chained to a faith he no longer has sufficient evidence to believe in.
I’ve met many people in similar positions and this stage is full of anxiety but coming out the other side is so liberating when they just dump the baggage and move forward. There are online ex Muslim groups too which might help. If I was to recommend a book by an ex Muslim you could try the ‘young atheists handbook’ which is an autobiography of someone in similar circumstances.
    Another great vid 👍

Honest, intuitive, a young man of reason. Religious people often times stop themselves from digging deeper into further investigation and questions. This guy is not afraid to keep learning even if what he finds lowers his faith in his god. When he stops believing completely, I hope he finds a greater benefit to his life and his family isn't too hard on him. Another reason to doubt religious claims is in hearing about believing parents rejecting their own children due to an honest change in belief. It shows weakness, a lack of faith, immaturity, and a lack of love\compassion as if their own beliefs will be threatened and they don't believe in the power of their own gods to win their kids back into the fold. In the most strict fundamental Muslim countries, the weakness of belief goes even further to threatening people's lives. Now, look at this guy embracing science, knowledge, education, reality....he is a far bette human being.

I hope AZ is doing OK. To me, and I see some others here noticed it too, he actually looks like he might be not in the best place mentally. I could be completely off, but he mentioned quite a few things that would indicate that. I got a little carried away below with some examples. I've been watching some body-language videos lately too so I have potentially biased my view. Of course, just because he's a bit nervous and a deep thinker doesn't mean the worst I know. I feel like he came back so soon because he thought he didn't do well enough on the first one and may have wanted to know the whole second chat how he compared to others, or maybe it was when Confident Zain walked past and AZ lowered his head.
@Anthony Magnabosco, might be worth keeping in mind how vulnerable some young people might be and how they could misconstrue a few challenging SE questions as validation of lack of worth or confirmation of a negative view of themselves. Maybe you should carry a few extra materials with you for some local mental health resources and hotlines and suicide prevention help etc. If you recognize an outsider like AZ, maybe have some examples of some groups like ex-Muslims, atheists, critical thinking, philosophy, SE groups on Reddit/FB etc. Especially for someone who is smart enough to see religion for the madness that it is, likely won't have any family or childhood friends to turn to. You could always ask him to hang back for a sec and turn off the video and be your usual kind and empathetic self and outright ask him or similar people if they are OK. Just a thought.
Some Examples I Thought I Saw:
His first topic to talk about in video one, at 4 mins 14 secs was, "Maybe something along the lines of just how I talk to people and treat people?". The next thing was, "Make me feel self-assured." Just watch the first video again from then but thinking that the references he uses are about himself, like 'Any kind of last hope', 'a really desperate situation', 'If I'm struggling', 'I did something and I'm in a really stressful situation', etc. At 7 mins 35 he said, "Because of a feeling, I guess, a feeling of no hope or something like that.", "Maybe it's hope that people want so they turn to something.......it could be people sometimes."
In this second vid right at the start when Anthony says, "You have resources around you that you might reach out to.", and AZ says, "Yeah. Potentially yeah.' And his first reminder of what they talked about was, "To help de-stress.....or you know, to feel more confident...maybe to do better...however it may be phrased". And at the end of the video things like, "It's weird to think that people are so different than I am, in the way the look at something.....like someone's mad at me for something very small", "It makes me wonder, what are they thinking that certain way?", "You could say it's because XYZ...bad childhood....well, I'm sure there's plenty of people, ahhh, that have had terrible childhoods, but they would not act this way.", "The big question I like always asking is, why.....Specifically to myself... is like, why am I so different?. "That's the question I like to wonder a lot".
Then at 23:37 things like "Are my responses very different from a lot of people?", "Sometimes I feel like I am very different, sometimes I feel like I'm not different at all". Which could be taken as, 'I'm weird and not like everyone and I'm not special at all'.
When Anthony says, "It's great to wonder, isn't it! (like most of us here would agree)
AZ says, "It kind of sucks sometimes." and, "Cause I focus all my time on that"
AZ, if you happen to see this, you are a smart and curious guy who's introspective thoughts and willingness to be challenged are actually quite rare. More people should be like you, not the other way round! Keep blazing your own unique path man!

It's normal for one to feel they are very different from others. This is why many people cling to religion. Religion tells people that they are unique, special and even better than others. In reality, no one is special. But we are valued by our friends and family, if we are lucky enough to have friends and family. Exploring who you are and where you fit into society is a normal part of our human journey. Keep exploring, AZ. You are actually still forming who you are and this will continue to change as you learn and experience life. Never stop questioning!

This guy was very bright and refreshing. I feel like your conversation could have been much more fruitful of you didn't get so bogged down in the quantification of his confidence.
The number on the scale serves as a great introduction to begin a precise talk on this subject, but for people like this guy who is obviously fully equipped to have a highly rational conversation about the existence of God, I feel like it wastes time. This could have left the guy feeling much more confident to go further in this conversation, maybe even influence those around him positively.
This is shown by his desire to continue the conversation afterward with questions to you, you seemed to want to bring it to a close quickly, even mentioning to a passer by that you wanted to talk with them.
Your work is amazing and valuable, I think this guy was just ready for more.

I’d say he was definitely looking at the confidence scale in a different way. While Anthony does explain that pure agnosticism is 0% and absolutely certainty is 100%, AZ seemed to peg the hypothetical agnostic at 50%; maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not. 🤔🤷‍♂️
So that left the devout theists at 100% and the devout atheists at 0%. So I’d say his self assessment of 40% meant his feelings weren’t _strong, but he did tend towards atheism. 🤓👍

      @ianp3112 4 года назад +2

@@ianp3112 Totally agree, he seems like a really smart guy. After going back over the use of "hypothesis" in this video, it was actually Anthony that used the word first (8:53), so I think the word may have taken on a more colloquial meaning. Not doubting that he knows the difference when using the word in a scientific sense, but it seemed like the word was used more informally during this talk. 13:23 seems like an example of AZ using it colloquially when talking about how religion makes people feel throughout human history. But, regardless of how the word would be defined in the context of this conversation, the important part would be the discussion about falsifiability. A good question might be "If the "hypothesis" that people are coming to (that it is god that is giving them comfort) can't be falsified, how meaningful are these hypotheses?" Because he did seem to weigh that pretty heavily in his 40% justification for belief in god (12:55).

In this case you're different of someone repeating rhetoric and sticking to what it has been told not being able to go further a template of thinking he has been mold. Sometimes being different could make feels lonely but it'll pass once you develop what make you you and you get people who will like you for what you are and not a narrow view of having mirrored minds around. Growing his personality is so much more essential than mimicking and being as other look or think they're.
Difference is being rare not being less.

Hey man, another great talk as always. You're doing gods work with this channel (heh). But something with this particular interview bothers me. It really is a minor thing and maybe I am missing something altogether as I'm not the one who's doing the interview face to face. It's just that (watching from the first part to this one), in the beginning of this video (part 2), you never get the robust (what) claim and there is a little bit of misrepresentation of his position from the first one, as the discussion kind of takes a turn to become one about a claim of god's existence without him really taking the conversation there. Maybe this could be misinterpreted as trying to push a worldview with eristic argumentation by someone who is willing to watch your videos with a bias? I know it's a minor thing and maybe I'm wrong altogether. Thanks again for making the videos, cheers.
