I'm a gem cutter. As an apprentice I occasionally saw a master craftsman suddenly change a polishing regime he had used for over 20 years and spend weeks experimenting with new approaches. When I finally found the courage to ask one of my seniors why they told me, 'When you are at the top of your game, the top six inches of your body has more to do with the results than what goes on in your hands'.
40 year later in my trade I finally understand that how I feel about a technique is often the difference between mediocrity and excellence.
Given your level with the violin, have you considered consulting a sports psychologist in addition to your physical training ?

Absolutely! I have studied from Don Greene, Noa Kageyama, and in fact, my bookshelf is full of excellent books on the topic. Also, I am a member of the Growth Equation Academy which is about human performance and living a good life, across all disciplines! Go check them out - I have a discount code somewhere if you become interested.
Thank you for sharing a part of your journey. :)

@@Violinna Very kind, but I've studied very hard with my old masters and put in 60 years to become a grumpy old man and I'm not about to throw it all away for 'self growth '😄

Inna, I recently found your videos. I'm a physical therapist who also teaches anatomy, so I'm familiar with Jennifer's body mapping work and her first book. I decided to take up violin at age 62, and this older body with arthritis in neck and hands has not taken kindly to this instrument! I also had a custom chin rest made by Lynne and Gary. I do use a shoulder rest, mostly for stability rather than height. I added silicone pads and Dycem to my Kun to make it grippier. It's interesting that, even after all of your years playing and performing, you still find that your body and your fitting needs continue to evolve. I guess the lesson for beginners like me is to not be locked into a setup forever. Thank you for your videos!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey! It's really inspiring that you took up the violin at 62 and as a physical therapist it's great that you took the initiative to get a custom setup with Lynne and Gary! Thanks also for sharing about the silicone pad + Dycem idea with the Kun - stability and anti-slip is the main function.
