MY PIANO TEACHER WAS THE SAME WAYYY AHHH i felt like i was doing something wrong when I played anything but classical on the piano
I'd argue that games do a great job at keeping classical music relevant to younger generations.
I know nothing about classical, but if an orchestra played Ludwig the Holy Blade from bloodborne you bet I'd be running for my life.
Good choice of thumbnail, as Beethoven was ahead of his own time as a composer.
16:43 THIS! I would have never discovered some of my absolute favorite games if it wasn't for music I heard of them.
Aria of the soul, mechanical rhythm, necrofantasia, to zanarkand, drifting soul, night of seclusion, song of healing, at dooms gate, serpent eating the horizon, Attack of the killer queen, world's end valentine, literally most of the TWEWY Ost,...
Great list of tracks!
To answer this question without watching the video: yes it is. Its dumb to say otherwise.
Since you asked.
My favorite piece of video game music is probably Travaler's Encore from Outer Wilds (or probably any song from that game) since this song, besides being pretty chill and jammy, it also means so much to me, because of the game, and also to the game itself, since its played by different races, but, even though they can't communicate with each other due to language barriers, they can still express themselves collectively through music, almost like an universal language.
The ost from the DLC is also insanely good since it perfectly captures the essence of horror, almost in a cliche halloween type of way, but also filled with sorrow due to the Owlks' lore. Its like their music are made with them barely crying, yet, its hopeful.
I never played that game but you sold me on it
I haven't played Outer Wilds yet (it sits on the never ending backlog 😢) but I'm bumping it up to priority now! Thanks for the comment
@@izzybizz9Outer Wilds isn’t for everyone but to the people it is for it’s a magical experience. If I told an old version of myself that a game sitting in the back corner of my backlog would help me get over my fear of death and also become the most important piece of art to me, he definitely wouldn’t believe me! 😅
@@izzybizz9 Def do, you won't regret. Just be patient!
My guitar teacher let me play video game music and even made me new versions befitting of my skill level when necessary!
Now that's a good guitar teacher right there. More of this please!
There's a reason why people still make oldschool vgm, and why people develop software to replicate the same old limitations. I live for computer sounds, actually, the wide net that mostly defines music made by computer sounds, electronic music, is my favourite form of music, and its deeply intertwined with vgm. its why I came to love and appreciate music.
Also, my favourite VGM? hard question, but right now I'd say Warmth by C418 from Minecraft Volume Beta (or idk randomly pick a touhou track)
Thanks for the lovely and well-done video. I'm happy to be your 113th subscriber

The snake eater song from mgs3 is a must listen 💯
An absolute masterpiece for sure
I’m glad that I got to see at least one video that poses a question and the commentator answers the question outright and acts like there’s nothing more to discuss.
Windmill Isle is a masterpiece of a song, liking sonic or not.
I have to say, it is real music and it is used in the same way. building emotional responses to what's being depicted onscreen. this is probably a poor example, but i had quit playing shadow hearts from the new world because the main battle theme changed between chapters and i could not get dead fingers talk back in game. your music teacher is speaking from a taught perspective and i can beat if you played her any FF14 music she'd think it was music. ugh got me with the pokemon theme, subbed rofl
Thanks for the comment and for subscribing!
Anybody who claims Castlevania music isn't "real music" never bothered to actually listen to it. There have been whole concerts for it!
list of games with epic music that (probably) were not played or mentioned by you in the video
-Battlefield 1 (mostly because of its use of ethnic-sounding music to the participant nations in the 1st world war)
-Any souls game really? im guessing you've played bc of the bloodborne clips but yeah (gael's theme is the best)
-DOOM is a classic for heavy metal
-metal gear rising also for metal
-Dying Light 1 & 2 have surprisingly good scores (DL1 On The Edge & DL2 Empowering Yourself are both my favorite from each game)
-Hotline Miami has more of a "soundtrack" but their original songs are great for 'angry synthwave' enjoyers
-Later Alligator is a fun little indie puzzle game with a great city jazz ost
-Pacific Drive handles eerie 80's - 90's music much a-la stranger things but also not like stranger things(?)
-Project Wingman has great bombastic orchestras
-PAYDAY 2 has probably the best ost ever made for a videogame, i swear if you listen to anything listen to payday 2
-SUPERLIMINAL is a indie puzzle game about perspective with a calming "coffee house" type musical score
-ULLTRAKILL is another great 'auditory violence' game with a crazy intense soundtrack
-even the CALAMITY mod for terraria is crazy well made music
this is my list, listen to video game music
and also, the yakuza games, like... all of them i guess
also well made video i was kinda surprised you only have 100+ subs
Thanks for the list! Definitely very interested in Little Alligator and Ultrakill. I'm just starting out on making video essays so it's early, but I'm very thankful for the support as I build this channel. Stay tuned for my next video :)
Most games I play are from hearing their music first. Most recently with the Final fantasy and Kingdom hearts series.
yes as "real" music was treated as jokes in the same stupidly pretentious way too only for their quality to shut them up(or sadly long after the creator died in some cases.) it's the same as games are definitely art.
this is a debate that ended 25 years ago, of course it's real music, who's even still denying that?
Ori saga have one of the best game ost of all time. It is not an opinion.
100% agree!
As a huge metroidvania game, I've never played the ori games and now I'm super hyped for them.
@@brycemallumakopp dont get me wrong I love Ori saga like no one else but the focus in the first game is more plataforming that actual combat plus music beautiful and vibrant world and simple but toching story/narrative. It improves or better said a lil bit more focused on combat in second game but without leaving its core platforming.
focus.
You surely will enjoy them and hopefully will have them between your favs metroidvanias of all time.
P.S. if you have a great computer and screen of if you play them in your xbox series X it can reach 4k 120 fps and look heavenly
@thelifesampler My favorite thing in a game is atmosphere so that's definitely not a bad thing! I'll get around to it once I'm done with earthbound
Yes
yes
very nice
Yes.
What instrument do you play?
Piano, cello, and drums :)
Yay a fellow cellist
Is any jrpg music better than Taylor Swift, Kanye, etc. Yes. F pop musicians, F Hollywood, they are trash.
