Games based on movies are not new, but this 1930s attempt has nothing to do with its namesake film.

  • In the year 1930, the hottest show on the radio was a comedy called "Amos and Andy." RKO Pictures made a movie featuring the characters from that show, and it was a hit. So the folks at Milton Bradley jumped on the "Check and Double-Check" train with a game of cards and dice.
Each player has a tableau of card, and each in turn rolls a pair of dice - dice with one special face that sports a check mark. The idea is to rid yourself of the cards you've been dealt. BUT...
The process is entirely based on the die results and random cards dealt out. So - not much of a game. This is probably why you hadn't heard of Check and Double Check before. Unless you're a fan of very old movies.

It seems like a very simple game, but the way a dice roll affects all players seems like a precursor to more modern mechanics such as resource production in Catan, dice draft, placement of workers with dice, etc.
The combination with cards can surely evolve into something interesting like the micro games of the "buttomshy" brand

I feel like this is one of those games that really needed at least one more rule. Even something as simple like rolling doubles allowing you to choose any card would at least be *something* even if it probably wouldn't save the game.

So, it's like _Shut_ _the_ _Box_ , but cheaper & with no choices?

I have a fascination with ancient board games. So much so I have modelled and 3d printed replica Tutankhamen senet board. I have also created hounds and jackals. This channel is where I learn how to play them. I think my next project might be aseb. Do you think I should go bird or scorpion man.

Riveting. At least the cash grabs of today look a little nicer. :P

Playing this to 200 points is nuts. But I guess in the depression you find ways to waist time where you can. Lots of hype for such a let down. Calling All Cars was a flop from M&B as well.

I stand corrected. Calling All Cars was Parker Brothers not M&B.

    Use ordinary cards.
But it's hardly full of suspense.
