A couple years ago I had a very serious bicycle crash (4 days in ICU) and there was no one around me. I was rushing to catch a group of guys and was taking a short cut through an empty parking lot (Angle Stadium in Anaheim, CA) when I hit a low cable stretched between two concrete barriers that I just didn't see it until it was too late. I flew over the handlebars and broke 5 ribs, a collarbone, a vertibrae, and collapsed a lung for good measure. Definitely my worse day on a bicycle.
I have ridden for many years (30+) and pretty much every long time cyclists I know has a story or two about a knarly crash they've had.
