Also, I love how you described the guys who were mostly young and progressive radicals and were supported at the time by both Garibaldi and Marx as "old royalists". Shows what an expert you are.
But OK, let's agree for the sake of an argument that the January Uprising is an irrelevant ancient history, which was just a Polish rebellion anyway (and that it doesn't matter haw Belarusians themselves view it). The answer is this: chronology of Belarus: Rus (980-1190) => GDL (1240-1569) => PLC (1569-1795) => Russian Empire(1795-1917). 555 years of Lithuania+Poland vs 122 years of Russia. So, 555 vs 122. During this 555 years, enough differences have formed on the territory of Belarus so that it does not feel like a common part with Russia. And 122 years as part of Russia could not change anything. Belarusians remembered the glorious times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and wanted their own state.

the words kvit and huit sounds equal for a untrained ear.
This type of missinterpretation is also rather usual in the north of "Sweden" and Norway, Russia, and Finland of today.
Its alike the missinterpretation of the old "scandic" word of Vin, as in Vinland, Finland, and many more.
The meanining of this is "pastures for the feding of animals".

They would be ravaged, pillaged and extinguished by the EU. Historically, the majority of Belarusians and Ukrainians are ethnically Russian but were long occupied by Polish, Lithuanian, Swedish and Austrian empires. Both "national" languages are versions of Russian pidginised chiefly with Polish. Must everybody who has endured occupation abandon their true history forever after?

It can be anytime Putin wants, but perhaps he and Lukhashenko agreed, to wait to grab Ukraine first as it would be, otherwise, too obvious to the international community what Putin always wanted: the restore of the Russian Empire. Actually, Ukraine is the critical piece in this reconstruction. I mean, the whole Ukraine, not just some pieces of it, like Crimea and Donbass.

3:12 Rule of thumb in Russian historiography: in every tiny event, under every pebble, lay the beginnings of what eventually would become Russia. Example: "Some dude in 852 farted. This fateful occurrence put in motion an unstoppable chain of events that would eventually inevitably lead to the emergence of the Russian Empire!"

The national name Russia is a recent, historically speaking, name. It was known as the Duchy of Muscovy 1283-1621 and Tsardom of Muscovy 1613-1721. Peter the Great changed the name to the Russian Empire in 1721. Actually, based on its governance, it has always been the Tsardom of Muscovy, where power over life and death has always been centered.

@@mw8498 do a research by looking at older maps and historical record. Muscovy was the name of the principality (which was formerly part of the kievan rus) which gained the most power and influence and subsequently after years manage to reunite the rus people into russia. After the kievan rus was destroyed a slow battle royale for its restoration began by all principalities that were a part of the nation prior to the mongol invasion.
The Grand duchy of Muscovy was used up until 1547 when the Russian tsardom was officially proclaimed.
