    The Roswell for me was a unique sound that gives the guitar an edge. You’d reach for that despite a room full of Gibsons, because of it. Nice mix, excellent examples we could hear and understand. Fine work Dunsy.

      Excellent point Jim and one that I hadn’t even considered. For me the sound I prefer is the BN, but that sounds like most of my other P90 guitars (simply because it’s the sound that I always go to). The Roswell has a different sound, which I would need in certain situations where I need something different. Good call, Sir.

    Roswells are great. Tried "better" P90, the only difference was a bit less top end (what makes "fatter" sound). It is VERY important to set the Roswell pickup cca 3mm higher - I used a piece of rubber. Then you get fatter tone and tone control works very good on this guitar to tame the top end. I was very surprised, such a great guitar for 199 EUR only!

  • @JD-vj4go
    @JD-vj4go 2 года назад +2

    The Roswell sounded a lot better than I expected. On the riffs I thought they were pretty close. The BN had more clarity especially on the lower strings.
    But the Bare Knuckle was a lot better on the leads. It screamed more. I really liked your lead tone with that one. That lead sound would be worth it to me.
    This was a super cool series. For what it's worth based on looks alone the 2019 Gibson gets my vote for king of the P90s.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  2 года назад +1

      I think for leads the BN is totally the sound I want to hear when I’m playing. I guess it’s all subjective and some folks might prefer the Roswell for that. I’m half-deef after 40 years of rock and roll, so I might no be able to tell the difference, mind you! 😂

    • @JD-vj4go
      @JD-vj4go 2 года назад

      @@DunsysGuitarWorld nah man the BN for lead just sounds great your ears are correct ☺️. I listened again with better headphones and it's even more pronounced. Are P90s quieter than other single coils? It'll be interesting to hear the BN in the Gibson if you do video for it.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  2 года назад +1

      @@JD-vj4go definitely going to put the BN in the 2019 Gibson - that’s actually the reason I bought it a while back. I thought the Gibson sounded great in the video I did for that guitar, but in the comparison with the other 3 it was underwhelming. The Vintage I’m going to leave as it, it sounds great already. I think this P90 is quieter than the single coil I have in the pink paisley Telecaster. My Strats have Noiseless single coils so I can’t compare those.

    The Roswell on yours sounds a lot better than either of the ones that I have. If mine had a thicker sound like yours does I wouldn't be thinking about swapping them out. That said, I like the sound of the Bare Knuckle better. It sounds a bit warmer and fuller overall. Nicely done, Dunsy! I may have to send you a Lollar to see if there's enough of a difference to warrant getting one for myself.

    I can hear a difference but not totally sure! I’m going to Replace My bridge and Tuners and keep the Roswell because it sounds pretty good. I’ve purchased a Musiclily Wilkinson GTB Adjustable bridge. And I’m either going to go with Gotoh or Grover Locking tuners! It sure stresses me out loosening and tightening and loosening and tightening over and over to adjust intonation and such and replacing bridges and tuners! I don’t guess it will hurt the fingerboard!

    I preferred the Roswells , the clean sound reminded me of the Lou Reed guitar sound, which I like. The bare knuckles sounded smoother but I missed the after tones of the Rockwells . What a great guitar as stock for the money, don't normally like gloss and glitz but a could make an exception.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld

      I think a lot of folks would leave this stock - the Rowells have a nice bitey tone, which will suit some kinds of stuff perfectly. For me they were a bit too thin for the kind of power chording stuff I usually do. But you're 100% right, for the money these can't be beat.

    Dunsy your advice if you would be so kind. I have an epiphone coronet which is a single p90 guitar. It has the epiphone p90 pro which is ok but want something with bit more bass and mids. Do I go for a Gibson p90? Bare knuckle ? Seymour Duncan antiquity or somebody suggested Monty’s 54 p90 which do sound nice. What do you think. I play mainly rhythm and some solos. Classic rock and punk. Which would be a good choice. I have the 50s wiring ready to go as well

      @DunsysGuitarWorld  Год назад

      David! So sorry to take so long to reply, my friend. To be honest, the BN's I've had have been pretty high output and I really liked them - really push the front of the amp. But, I guess, for a more classic P90 snarl the Duncan and Gibson is the way to go. Monty's pickups I've never tried.

  • @jaredtallen
    @jaredtallen Год назад +1

    You could really hear a difference on Clean tones even on my tiny little phone speaker which I could not hear when you compared Harley Benton to a Gibson. I personally prefer the bare knuckle. The further away from the Clean tones you got the less of a difference there was.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  Год назад

      Yeah, definitely comparing clean is a better idea. The more overdrive the less difference in tones.

  • @ThePaddedPedalroom
    @ThePaddedPedalroom 2 года назад +2

    You can Hear a difference the Bare knuckles may have a bit more oomph. However if you adjust your level and effects differently I am sure the difference could be compensated for. I think if you are a person who does not use effects and just plugs into an amp then the upgrade is worth it, but if you use effects then it may not be worth the upgrade.

    • @DunsysGuitarWorld
      @DunsysGuitarWorld  2 года назад +1

      I’d need to blindfold myself too, lol 😂. It’s a funny one, as I much prefer the sound and the feeling of playing with the BN pickup as, to my ears, there’s more oomph (technical term) and it’s easier on leads as there’s more sustain. But, in all honesty, whenever I watch any of the blind tests that folks like Anderton’s do, I usually pick something that I would be convinced I didn’t like if I knew what it was. I’m away to find some videos on soldering pickups, while blindfolded.
