"I kneel before you, not as a prince, but as a man in love...but I would feel like a king if you, Danielle DeBarbarac, would be my wife". This is my all-time favorite scene in the movie and I know these words by heart. It is simply one of the most romantic lines ever!!! I smile like an idiot everytime I watch this movie and hear these lines spoken. Where are all the romantic men?!!!
The Feminists of the World have Destroyed some of them and the Rest are Afraid to come out. They don't know if We are Feminists or If We want Men to act like Men. Plus this Generation is raising their Sons Not to be Romantic.
The sweetest scene ever. The humble way he kneels down, picks up her filthy, muddy foot, and tenderly slips off her shoe. And when she's overcome and crying, he just waits there, quietly, letting her have her moment of emotion. They just don't make em like this anymore!
I really like this particular scene because Danielle was not rescued by a prince she was able to save herself from the common Thief who was basically her master because her stepmother sold her but she was able to rescue herself without being rescued by a prince so I really like that
I love how she does not leap into his arms immediately because she had the sense to do so. Just because the Prince was in love with her did not mean everything was already fun and dandy. He still had to convince her that his royalty meant nothing to him. You can see how happy she already felt when he said her name and when he showed her the shoe. But still, she was in her senses not to leap into his arms then. She still knows that she’s a commoner and he is the crown prince. She was not a moron was my point.
@@lpycb42 she was a commoner. Her father was a “lord of the manor” which then meant an untitled/unranked property and landowner. Yes. THIS. 1000%. That’s the element of it which makes it so perfect. You can tell it’s the overwhelming final realisation after years of abuse, someone being kind and loving to you and making you feel safe, she’s finally able to accept that all the horrid things done to her were not her fault and yes she didn’t deserve to be treated that way. After years of being made to think she did and bearing the guilt and torturing herself day in and day out that she isn’t trying hard enough or being good enough to be worthy of their love. She’s finally able to accept that she was never wrong. Her tears are the tears of someone finally being told they can be free of punishing themselves and trying to be good to fix the faults of others. That subtle human nuance is so movingly conveyed, it makes the scene all the more moving.
Yay! She rescues herself! I loved the rest of the movie but this is what made it top of the list of romantic movies for me. Hollywood, give us more damsels in distress saving themselves, please. I love that Danielle is brave and resourceful while still being allowed to be kind, gentle and at times vulnerable. I feel like most directors think 'strong' women have to be hard and tough-talking at all times, which is so far removed from reality that it makes me cringe when I see it.

She was about ethical and considerate treatment for everyone, no matter their station in life, but all the while knowing to gain this, one must do it themselves to achieve it. Not because she's a woman on a feminist mission...but because it's right for all. She certainly wanted those in her station to be treated ethically and humanely but not the to politically correct detriment of another group. I'm afraid I'm gonna be disappointed in the musical...but there's no guarantee it's going to broadway and I've been following it since it was announced back in about 2008 or so that it was coming to the stage. Yes I agree with you, strong doesn't mean unfriendly or rude, these days all stronger female characters are either sassy or simply mean, they need to make more female leads like Daniel. She was graceful, well educated, and I loved her way with words, the way she talked with her head high, and the confidence in her voice, we don't see this type of character these days.
Sorry. This is gonna be a long comment. Your comment just remind me of my late mom. She was very brave and strong despite her small body. Our father was once a fugitive. He had to leave the country in hurry. He was accused of a crime which he did not commit. Leaving us, our dear mom and us, 8 siblings, 1 was in Jordan, furthering her study. I still how chaos the situation was. Intelligent police kept coming question our family especially our mom. Our mom made a wise decision to bring us back to our father's village, built a home on his little piece of land using her money from the her land that she mortgage (to her only brother which later betrayed her) and raised us there. For more than 3 years, we did not receive any news from our father. With 7 children, our family struggle financially. Without no proper certificate, she could not get a proper job. She did finish high school and got a good result but her dad (our late grandpa) didn't allow her to continue study. So, she could only rely on her knowledge. Offering to become a tutor, babysitting, asking restaurants and schools' kitchen to allow her put the snacks that she made for selling, sewing clothes, working at school kitchen, selling ointment and herbs. Yup, she was smart and excellent at multiple job. She was great at networking and being in social situation. She is respected by the community even until now after years of her passing. She was very kind and gentle. She never had ill intention. There were many times, a refugee came to our house brought many items for selling. Our mom even invited her into our house, treat her kindly, serve her cold drink and some biscuits while she look for item or goods that probably need. So is towards other seller. If she could not buy, she refuse them kindly and apologize for not being able to help. As far as I remember, she never said curse words or bad words. When she became sick near the end of her life, many of her friend visited her and provide some help to our family. Even until now, they are still kind to our family and keep reminisce of our late mom and how well her kids turn out to be. Sometimes, i think that she was perfect. Seem like never rest and had a huge amount of energy. Had she ever felt tired, sad, angry or perhaps display some feelings? Sometimes, i hope that she can share more of her feeling to us. It was very hard to read her face to guess her emotion. She would always be my definition of a strong woman and a human. Resilient, gentle and kind-hearted. Not all of our siblings were excellent academically and financially, but we all have a good behaviour. Thanks to our mom who educated us how to treat people respectfully and kindly.
I love the fact that at the end she has one of each shoe on- to me it shows the spilt between the lives she had been living throughout the movie. Even if she marries the prince her past does not get erased
@@rppvt Yes indeed. I was just complimenting her comment. Not many people are so wise or intelligent enough to notice such amazing detail. I didn't mean to sound sarcastic or doubtful.
This scene is so effective at pulling my heartstrings because of Danielle’s appearance. She’s all dirty and dressed very commonly. This point is emphasized when Henry takes off her work-worn shoe revealing the plain gray stocking and then slides the exquisite glass slipper onto her foot. And when she clasps her blackened hands to her dirty face and sobs. Maybe it’s because we all fantasize about being rescued at our lowest points by someone who unconditionally accepts us. I recognize that she is very pretty which helps but still. Also knowing how Danielle has been worked hard most of her life, to see her being offered the world when she’s all tattered and lowly is so satisfying.
this movie is the most romantic but also realistic cinderella story ever. drew barrymore was EXCELLENT as the lovely and intelligent and adventurous woman.
this should be the type of "Cinderella" children and adolescent alike should be watching. no magic, no fairy godmother but a realistic touch which makes it more believable and definitely relatable; erasing the ambitious plasticity of fictional characters we idolize these days.
What I love about this scene is how incredibly real it is, from both their points of view and the resolve to their love story. The emotions in this scene are so believable from Henry's attempts to get her forgiveness and understanding and Danielles question as to why a man who says she was 'just like the girls who were after him for his station' comes for her. The disbelief and joy that he is proposing, the happiness the he is finally able to see her as Danielle the peasant and not the Countess Nicole. Both these characters had their moments but in the end the love never really died not for Danielle who was publicly humiliated, sure Henry needed to be knocked a few times before he realizes that she was true to him from the beginning and how he never really stopped loving her.
What Henry will soon find out is that while Danielle is a commoner, she is the daughter of a landowner and should have been raised as a lady of the house. It was only her stepmother's jealousy, bitterness, and meanness that relegated Danielle to servant status. Commoners who owned land were a definite step above those who didn't own land.
Both when he says he's sorry and when he's waiting for her answer, the look on his face shows that he's expecting her to keep him suffering. To keep him waiting and to keep punishing him for what he did to her. But right when she does the exact opposite, in both instances, his face begins to glow. I love that!
One of my ALL TIME favorite movies. I must have watched it over 100 times in a row when it came out on DVD. Even all these years later i can still recall almost all of his lines by heart.
I remember seeing this when it first came out. And 20 years later I'm still crying at this scene. It hurts as you get older moreso ... It made me believe in love again.
This is the most heartbreaking scene in the whole movie 🎥 i cry every single time I see this scene Drew Barrymore played Danielle so excellent specially in this scene she is my favourite Cinderella character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so did i.. a lot of fairy tales were true.... i live one.... my prince was manipulated and now he's confused forever.... he left me again.... 13 years and two times with fate.... he made his choice to let the devil continue to trick him... i'm forever walking alone as an ice queen....
Absolutely love this movie. I watched it with my mother growing up and it’s my favorite Cinderella movie. I wish we still had good movies like this being made.
This and the scene before is one the many many reasons why this is the absolute BEST version of Cinderella!!!! They never show that she's a great swordsman...but after seeing the things she's done you completely believe that she would be able to do the things she threatened to do to the bad guy!! It's just so perfect!!
Strong scene of self defense & show of love. She is a strong young lady. I love when she ask him to say her name again. That is being in love listening to you love say your name. Aww pure Love ❤
Always hits me.....I offered you world....(a name, any name he said) at the first test of honor I betrayed your trust (broke her heart at the ball) But really gets when he says please Danielle as she is walking away, scared that he lost his chance and being king will no longer mean nothing when you let the world slip through your hands
My favorite movie of all time !!! I could have watched this in theaters over and over again for months on end and never, ever tire of seeing "A Cinderella Story" which actually depicts a true event for all to witness and experience and Drew Barrymore is an awesome actress with a long line of Barrymore thespians.
Well, it's not. Real love is calling your husband a butt weasel and being comfortable enough with him to fart on his leg when you're both laying on the couch watching TV. That's real love. None of this shmaltzy sappy shit.
I know everyone goes on and on about Henry’s sweet purpose. But I just cried my eyes out when Henry called Danielle and not her mother’s name. It was like Danielle still felt like half of herself was being seen by Henry. And it must have been hard pretending to be HALF of who you are. And let’s not forget Danielle had no idea how her mom reacts around her father. She never experienced what her parents behaved like when they were in love. The only mother figure never showed her any ounce of how to be affectionate towards someone. So, Danielle was basically winging it the whole time. And I love that, when we think of Cinderella she has never sourced to violence, worked hard, kind towards everyone she meets, and courageously throughout the hard times. And lots of girls think they have to like that to be noticed. And the truth is you don’t. Danielle is more human because she showed us she gets angry and yes she has a sense to put her foot down and say no. That is why I love this movie more than all the other remakes they did. Because nothing comes more human more realistic and reliable than this.
Almost everything you said was spot on, 😀 but Danielle did resort to violence at least twice. Punching Marguerite in the face, giving her a black eye for mentioning her dead Mother. And pulling the sword of Pierre so he'd let her go. Both of these were totally justified, but violent. 💡
i will never forget the words prince henry said to danielle in his proposal to her, such love for her, respect and intense passion. i could watch that over and over, and hear those words forever in my dreams. a true love story, she what what prince henry needed all along. his words will be a legacy forever.
She's my match in every way!! I love this movie even though is 11 years old, it's incredible. The fact that they are french and talk like english people doesn't matter
I love how contrite and sincere Henry is. His expression really shows how much he loves her and how much he regretted treating her so badly. But I wish she should have let him fuss a little bit before giving in. I love grovel scenes, just so you know, LOL!
I swear this is one of my all time fave movies ever. I know every line in this scene isn't that sad? I don't know how many times I've seen this movie on the big screen and on tv. I love love this movie!

I remember seeing this when it first came out. And 20 years later I'm still crying at this scene. It hurts as you get older moreso ... It made me believe in love again.
Most probably the best but yet so underrated Cinderella story💕👏
Those were the days... no technology, just real life experiences!!! Real LOVE too!!!
This is such a great movie. It's not really just about love, but hope, on so many levels.
Seen this movie a million times thanks to my niece and I just noticed his huge smile. Sweetest moment ever
This is the most heartbreaking scene in the whole movie 🎥 i cry every single time I see this scene Drew Barrymore played Danielle so excellent specially in this scene she is my favourite Cinderella character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This scene always makes me cry! Especially when they embraced! It was so beautiful!
This is one of my favorite movies they all did a good job i love this movie and i believe there was a cinderlla
so did i.. a lot of fairy tales were true.... i live one.... my prince was manipulated and now he's confused forever.... he left me again.... 13 years and two times with fate.... he made his choice to let the devil continue to trick him... i'm forever walking alone as an ice queen....
Luna Faye
I can relate
@@Babyfaceloca16 Princes DO come around!
This is the best Cinderella movie and is so inderrated Drew is an amazing actress
loves it since age five and it still gets to me every time I'm crying cause they don't make love this beautiful anymore
Absolutely love this movie. I watched it with my mother growing up and it’s my favorite Cinderella movie. I wish we still had good movies like this being made.
It's incredible, this scene still brings tears of joy, to my eyes!!!!
1998 the first time i see this movies. I will never tired to watch it, 😍😍🥺
Always hits me.....I offered you world....(a name, any name he said) at the first test of honor I betrayed your trust (broke her heart at the ball)
But really gets when he says please Danielle as she is walking away, scared that he lost his chance and being king will no longer mean nothing when you let the world slip through your hands
I quoted every word with tears streaming down my face.
My favorite movie of all time !!! I could have watched this in theaters over and over again for months on end and never, ever tire of seeing "A Cinderella Story" which actually depicts a true event for all to witness and experience and Drew Barrymore is an awesome actress with a long line of Barrymore thespians.
Every time I watch this scene I get goose bumps, Love this movie
Totally agree with others...best version, and OMG the Soundtrack
This is my favourite and by far the best version of a Cinderella story ever made.
This movie is the best alternate version of Cinderella. Just beautifully made.
this scene never fails to make me cry every single time...
If only real love was like this.
Dude, I regret not watching this film sooner. Only watched this film a few months ago. I love this version of Cinderella, and I love this scene.
Makes me cry every time!
I will never get tired watching this part!! I just love it
I do like Henry a lot but being an arrogant jerk was one of his BIGGEST flaws.
"Feeding her to the wolves"-Da Vinci.
But he comes around :)
Henry: [bitterly] I am born into privilege and with that comes certain obligations.
Da Vinci: [angrily] Horse Shit!
He was spoiled growing up, that's why
❤❤❤ Love this part of this wonderful film
Lovely and gracious to the very end. Brilliant cast. One of my faves❤
I truly love that Dougray, played the romantic Prince, with depth and sincerity, not cartoonish👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻👩🏻🦰💜
I love how the proposal is with the shoe that is from her mother's dress, which the baroness tried to steal from her.
The way she smile's when Henry says "Danielle" I love this underrated movie
And one of the most beautiful proposal scenes;)
i will never forget the words prince henry said to danielle in his proposal to her, such love for her, respect and intense passion. i could watch that over and over, and hear those words forever in my dreams. a true love story, she what what prince henry needed all along. his words will be a legacy forever.
This movie is the best Cinderella for ever
Henry's face at 2:49 is so cute. 😍
If my boyfriend proposals to like that. I'll cry and be like Danielle. I love this movie so much.♡♡♡♡♡
Dammit! Who's cutting the onions?!?!
Gracie Miserables if my girl proposes instead of me then I would cry too!!
She's my match in every way!! I love this movie even though is 11 years old, it's incredible. The fact that they are french and talk like english people doesn't matter
Every scene of this movie look like a romantic painting...
The chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott is wonderful. What a beautiful pairing they are.
