Love Stanley Jorden's face of utter joy as Chet starts to play ... and then Chet's face of amused admiration as Stanley starts to play with his own style. Two great masters really enjoying themselves :)
Gotta love the obvious respect Stanley has for Chet, as well as the obvious interest Chet has in what Stanley's doing and how. I'm sure it's a sign of how Atkins ALWAYS kept evolving as a player.
This is one of the most beautiful musics i've heard in my life. i can replay this non-stop. Stanley jordan nails one of the greatest riffs i've heard at 2:25. these guys got it together. Atkins all day err day.\
This is just fantastic.!! Two if the finest guitarists on this planet.!! You will never see this again.. so savour while you can!! (I must go pracitse....or chop it up for fire-wood.....hahah) Mickey's Place Cebu Philippines.
yeah, Stanleys been playing like that for about 25 years, I remember seeing him on the tonight show many years ago, hes just unbelievable, think he played a song called "fun dance" on that. My bro went and seen him about 15 years ago, and there was no band, it was just Jordan solo, he loved it.
Chet and Stanley are amazing here! I wish I could have seen Chet in concert. What an amazing and innovative guitarist he was. I had the pleasure of being able to see Stanley Jordan play at a music store in San Francisco in the mid 80s where he demonstrated some Casio MIDI equipment and played some tunes. It was amazing to see him play so close up. That was the first time I had ever seen someone play the guitar like a piano. I want to see Stanley play again!
I love this video, Stan the man and Chet . Chet is totally checking out what Stanley is doing. Chet does rip at the very end though... The final riff of the song Chet smokes. I notice the older players like Chet and les Paul, use a lot of DJango type single note runs- very little bending. Stan is from another planet only he knows what he does. When I saw Stan I think he had two guitars around his neck- and one horizontal on a stand ..crazy. This is precious footage.
I am showing my Dad this video he'll love it! I'm spreading the word about Mr. Jordan as well he's fantastic. Chet wouldn't have been up on stage with him if he wasn't good.
very enjoyable music from two masters; they obviously were having fun and liked the playing, for me that sets music"above and beyond", when the artists aren't afraid to let us know that they are enjoying it,too!, thanks for upping this piece: we miss you chet!
the first time i saw stanley jordan i never knew he existed either. i was fipping thru the channels on my tv and just happened to land on austin city limits and he was playing a show on there. i saw him do led zep's stairway to heaven and i was blown away completely. he did the most amazing version of that song i have ever witnessed in my life. that performance is probably here on u tube and i'm gonna find it and watch it a few times over. it's simply incredible.
Chet is in charge in this piece, but that is not to denigrate Mr.Jordan. He shines in his solo work, which is interesting and creative. Agreed, the bass guitarist in this piece deserves more credit.
I don't think Sweet Georgia Brown is Jordan's turf...Should Jordan to his stuff it would make Chet nervous as well. Chet also was seriously older and more experienced in his routines while Jordan was in the proces of getting better in what he already was good at. Music is not a competition.
Never seen a technique like Stanley's, Maybe he has perfected something new. He looks to me like someone scratching an itch but I cannot argue with the results. Just discovered Stanley and just became a fan, Love all that jazz and he makes it look soooo easy!
I think Stanley is playing a Rickenbacker.....cool arrangement....nicely done by all.....I like watching these kinds of videos.....where most of the band gets a chance to shine......great stuff here.....👍👍
My dad was a big Chet Atkins fan, too...first album I remember my dad buying when I was a kid was from Chet; my dad was a pretty rhythym guitarist, and he thought Chet and Django Rheinhardt were the best...
Man !!!THAT is THE MUSIC !!!!!! I know , every generation has own ,but CAN a NORMAL person ,shave , dans , take a drink , or JUST relax sitin ont he porch listening to the ,,rap ", ,,hip srip " or other ,,crap" ? NO ! Thank you Chet&Stan !!!!!
To quote the late Peter Boyle..."HOLY CRAP !!!" Words fail me, and for me, that's not easy ! Sad as it is that I never saw Chet, I DID see Stanley in New York, and he blew me away ! For those who haven't, go see Stanley Jordan...for those who saw Chet Atkins, lucky b**t**ds !
Incredible combination of styles and techniques: one helps each other, where there`s need of some help - Jordan`s young drive forces Atkins not to be that cold as usually while Atkins old-school attitude chains Jordan`s complicated modern jazz harmony and licks. Great indeed.
Jordan is playing the "touch guitar" which he helped to develop along with Apple computer. I think what he does is fantastic. But don't confuse him with the master himself, Chet Atkins. Although his work is exemplified here, it is Chet who brought the Jazz to Stanley,. If Stanley would have tried to play the many different genres that Chet played, it would be much less enjoyable. I can listen to Chet 24/7. Try that with just about any other guitarist or any other musician for that matter. They didn't call him Mr. Guitar for nothing.
"While at Princeton he played with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie", so I think Jordan had a little jazz up his sleeve. Other than that, l'm listening to this cuz of Chet. Chet always sought out great young talent....I think it made him a better player.
Stanley J. Has a cameo in that movie "Blind Date" [1987], with Bruce Willis and Kim Bassinger. Bruce takes Kim, as part of his his date, to a studio where Stanley Jordan is playing and recording. Kinda cool forgotten movie scene..... I actually found the clip to my surprise, here it is ruclips.net/video/cs1ViCLwQ-s/видео.html

With all due respect to Chet and Stanley whoever was the bassist for them is amazing!
It could have been Steve Wariner
@@nickgleason6600 That’s Johnny Johnson on bass.
Remember seeing Stanley Jordan playing on the street in the village NYC in the 70s. Unbelievable
Never get tired of listening or watching this!
... The Country Gentleman ~ he was known as, and I am always impressed when he is playing with others (a real mix of Joy and Respect)
Splendide Merci thanks for posting

I just watched Stanley in a recently new video on RUclips (2024) he’s a legend 🙌🏼🎸
Very nice accompaniment, Jordan, and adds a jazzy touch, but oh Chet! You nailed it!
Chet- so amazingly effortless. So smooth.

Chet Atkins and Stanley Jordan now that was a duet!

Absotively, Posilutely overawesome!! Its always fun to see the truly gifted at work.
Stanley usually gets left out of talks about the greatest guitarists but he is amazing
Lifelong Chet fan here, but damn,Stanley and the bassist can REALLY swing!
Whoever that bass player was, he was killin it too. Great walking and such.
That’s Johnny Johnson on bass.

john landis , why ever would an artist be afraid to let the listener know they were loving the music, the performance, the moment?
Man-oh-man....two badasses going to town.

Thank you HuntinBoots for this awesome video. Two geniuses at "work". If only all work could be so enjoyable!
they complement each other so well
One of the greatest pop songs ever; always sound fresh to my ears.
That bass player is incredible aswell
Stanley Jordan was way ahead, and probably still is the only person to truly use right hand technique, and WHAT TECHNIQUE IT IS!!!!
Siply waaaw. Jordan right hand is a rare diamond.Great duo.
At 2:55 Stanley Jordan on top of Chet Atkins. Chet almost seems off guard. Amazing performances from 2 of the very best!
O melhor guitarrista do mundo sem dúvidas*Stanley Jordan*****gênio

GREAT CHET !! PERFECT MAN !!!
Brilliant and amazing perfomance
Great musicians. Excelent video.
I love it.
Thanks so much for sharing it.

Stanley is Lou Gehrig. And he has Babe Ruth next to him!
Doesn't get better than this...hallelujah
Love seeing Chets expression at his own playing. Almost like that's pretty good!
i wish i could give a 10. great duo !
I had no idea that they performed together. Two of the most amazing guitarists together.
Both Master!
wow, I want to see this whole show!!!!

This video makes me cry ....
We shoud all unite as one american!!
Know what I mean?
Anybody else see a strong resemblance to Chet Atkins and George W. Bush ? Brilliant playing from these two maestros by the way.
Chet is George W.'s alter ego but keep it quiet.. he doesn't like publicity.
@@alainvosselman9960 Ha ha that solves the mystery.
@@riverbankfisher I wish it would have solved the misery ...
Deux grands guitaristes.
fantastic

I'm embarassed to say I never heard of him until tonight! Four years after your late arrival to the party! LOL
yowee! jumpin' jive! gotta know more about that youngster usin' the "free hands " style of tap- playing!
Fantastic what can i say
More beautiful to me every day
The tonight show with Johnny Carson, not Leno. As a matter of fact, Johnny had him on 3 different times that I can recall.
excellent
Chet always rose to occasion when he played duets with another high caliber picker.
Qué pasada !!!
If you put a thumbs down to this there is something very wrong with you.
great picking
wow that was brillant
@OCCAMS99....ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!
😀❤️👌
QUÉ HERMOSURA DE MÚSICA!!!! XD
Good Ole Chet. What a picker!
Count me in with the other people raving about that bass player!
