Nice! I was also out there with my dad and brother fishing yesterday. We had macks all morning long untill we got too sea sick. Was going to rig up for rock fishes and lings but got too seasick to even setup the 2nd pole. This was our first trip at capitola on the skiffs. Came back to the pier to rest 2x before we decided to return the skiff. Reserved a whole days worth but we only fished for almost 4 hours. Was there 6am till 11am, the outher hour was spent returning and breaks. Your vids are awesome, and that was the reason why I headed out there yesterday. Keep it comming!
At least you didn't go home empty handed. Sucks you guys got seasick. One of my good friends that I take with me to Capitola has pretty bad motion sickness as well. He takes medication the night before we go out and the morning, just before we get on the boat. He's able to deal with the trip all the way through; that might be something to try :)
Was that actual fish and game? I know some marine biologists just go around tallying fish, what types and all that mainly for scientific research, we always get them checking out the fish out of Santa Cruz rental boat place.
Yea, he was fish and game but bio science division or something like that. He did exactly what you mentioned about tallying fish but also asked for info about locations, fishing times, and some other stuff about how often we head out.
So glad that big but didn't break leader, rod and heart. everything held whew!!!!!. AS for the big but take a pair of pliers and break the buts neck(severe spinal canal at head and then they cant use those nasty teeth anymore. "Don't hang over the side of the boat" either as it might end up a scobby snack for the great white sharks in the region or taken by a seal-loin. Quite a few smaller 8-10 ft white sharks have laid claim to the area and love free fish and yes sea lions r pain the but thieves. Usually the rentals also come with a large blue fish bucket not pictured? hum SC-3 buoy buts lots to be had in the region when the macks show up
Great fishing video! By the way, are those Mackerals thick? I want to take my young son into Mackeral action! Can you also share the location of the Mackerals? Thanks and keep making the awesome videos!
Hey Andy. Thanks for checking out my video. With regards to your question about the location of the mackerel, they're pretty much nearby the shore. The mackerel tend to move around a lot, they're never stationary; giving you exact GPS coordinates wouldn't really help you much. The moment you drive out from the pier, assuming you're going to use Capitola Boat and Bait, you'll see them--they're jumping out of the water at times. If anything, fish near the kelp beds or any natural/man-made structure. You don't have to be inside the kelp beds, just be near it. Fish tend to hang around structure--the kelp beds are natural structures for them to congregate around. For your jigs, this is what I use: www.charkbait.com/cs/images/accessories/Owner/owner_sabiki.jpg I use model #5536-097 The sabiki's with gold hooks and yellow/green translucent fly wings work extremely well. Drop the sabiki between 10-20 ft. down. They're the kind of fish that dwell at the mid-column and surface. When you feel the fish start to bite your hooks, don't bring it up right away... count to 20-30 seconds, then bring it up. What happens is that once one mackerel takes a hook from the jig, the others will chase after the other hooks thinking it's a feeding frenzy. Happy hunting!
JaredUwon It's $125 and it includes fuel, life jackets, oars, anchor, and a fishing bucket. Advice is free from Ed or Myron.. but I like to slip them a $10 for the real intel.
cant wait to get out opening day
i go there every sundays
