Superb super stars from a time that we will never ever see again Ever, Marlo Thomas and Ethel Merman, two Icons that today's actors and actresses can't touch or Even come close!!!!!
If it weren't for their on screen chemistry the show wouldn't have been successful. The writing wasn't exactly stellar.we all loved Marlo and Ted but some of the situations were banal
I know the show is about 'That Girl' but I can't imagine the show without 'That Boy'. While Ann is asserting her independence and following her dream in the big city, Don is right there loving and supporting her...How many men will say "have a seat and tell me all about it..." and then waits patiently while she tells everyone else. I love the two of them together but I think Ann takes Don for granted too much ❤️
... Great Name for a book about Ted Bessell's life ... "That Boy" ... They were a great combination ... Don & Marlo ... ... the Tracey & Hepburn of the small screen.
Hello, Miss Thomas, MY NAME IS KENNETH, I took a peek at your classic comedy called “ THAT GIRL”, and you sure look wonderful with that hairstyle. One question: Do you ALWAYS have to mess it up before the commercials, Ma’am? A wonderful show with lots of laughs. Kenneth Huang 10/9/2023.
I've always thought that since I first watched him in Marry Tyoer Moore Show, even in his autumn days. People always raised eyebrows when I mentioned him as one of my crushes.
You can love there relationships. It was hard to be together. When they couldn't be seem together. I believe they had a thing. Except it didn't work out. IT a shame the audience didn't know
OH, BY THE WAY, MISS THOMAS, I DOWNLOADED THE MOST FAMOUS ALBUM FOR CHILDREN THAT YOU MUST BE VERY PROUD OF… FREE TO BE…YOU & ME ( 1974 ). I HAVE WAITED SOOOO LONG TO GET A COPY, AND I FINALLY GOT EVERY SONG IN THE EXACT ORDER FROM THAT ALBUM. THIS DEFINITELY RATES A 10! Kenneth Huang 11/28/23.
AFTER SEEING THE POEM “HELPING” ON SHEL SILVERSTEIN’S BOOK “ WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS” (1974), I DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER THE ALBUM CALLED “FREE TO BE…YOU AND ME”. BECAUSE I KNOW THAT POEM WAS VERY WELL KNOWN WHEN SUNG BY TOM SMOTHERS, WHO WE JUST LOST 3 WEEKS AGO.. THIS CD IS AN ALL TIME CLASSIC, MA’AM, AND I STILL REMEMBER LISTENING TO IT DURING MY YEARS AT HASTINGS SCHOOL IN WESTBORO. THEY WERE FUN TIMES FOR ME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MISS THOMAS. KENNETH HUANG. 1/20/24.
Ugh, who would be excited about Ethel Merman in the late sixties and early seventies? What a straight fantasy show. And Donald never got further than a lame kiss. He must have been paying for a lot of call girls. I kid you not, I kid.
@@RepentfollowJesus She was Danny Thomas’ daughter, name something else that she was famous for other than that fluff show. So you must never heard of Payton Place. So much for “ clean “ subject matter.

Ann Marie was the exact opposite of Carrie Bradshaw. Ann struggled to maintain her innocence, despite having a steady boyfriend. Carrie slept with all kinds of different men. Luv how Ann's bangs are styled to dip in front. Accents her heart-shaped face❤

I love Donald and Ann's relationship.
Yeah, now. But when I was 14, and nuts about her, I hated him even touching her.
If it weren't for their on screen chemistry the show wouldn't have been successful. The writing wasn't exactly stellar.we all loved Marlo and Ted but some of the situations were banal
Ethel Merman like her or not was a huge Broadway stage star! I always liked her singing even though LOUD!!
Me too! ❤

One of my favorite episodes. Hysterical.
James Frawley who directed this episode was best known for directing many episodes of The Monkees.
Don always knew what to say.
Merman is thoroughly charming on this show.
The best show on samsung tv!
They change the Intro and End Credits for the Second Season.
Wow having Ethel Merman on this show shows that a big Broadway actress is really down to earth
Who knew Ethel Merman had feet.
@11:26 that is not Don with Ann waking past Ethel's room.
Leave it to Lou to start yelling at Ethel 😂
Donald is so sweet with Ann.

The first season's opening theme was much better--but Ann in that purple dress with the parasol...wow!
Ted Bessel was HOT!

@@worldinsights930Ted Bessel was a very good actor and died tragically so sad !

Wow she picked up the onion 🧅 from the floor and put them straight into the pot😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😂
LMAO!!I know really bad directing I thought I was the only one who noticed that!
The Boiling Water Killed Everything
They did that BACK IN THE DAY

Positively there was only 1 ethal merman. No out there like her ever.

If you mean that they both had fabulous clothes.
Isn't that Farrah Fawcett @2:08 ???
No way.
I think that's Joy Harmon....she looks like the girl in the movie "Cool Hand Luke." Internet Movie Database says she was in the show.
Love the pay phone
She was a Farrah Fawcett lookalike. I always thought it was her but it’s a different actress. Her voice even sounds like Farrah! Good catch.

What happened to Ann's neighbors Judy and Leon?
I thought 'celebrity' was a new term. Didn't realize they called famous people celebrities back then
Celebrity has been around since before That Girl.

Never could and still can’t stand the dad.
*Yes, seems like a crotchety old codger...*
That was the beauty of shows back then. They had such diverse characters. You could love them or hate them but each character helped to make the show.
The actor who played the dad worked with Ethel Merman on Broadway in the 1930s. Loud and brash was the style in those days.
The era before women wanted BBL's.
