Good video. Just a note to everyone watching, that left side rear deck hanger bracket is really bent due to age/time, which will cause the deck to sag and cut unevenly. That bracket needs to be bent back straight/level with a pry bar when the deck is removed from the mower. I've been using one of these slt1554 cubs since 2006 and it's a real workhorse!
Jeremy, Great Tip! and I appreciate the feedback! - Stiles
I have a 2007 GT1554. One tip when putting the deck back on, it's much easier to pull it through when you are on a hard surface like your driveway or in the garage. I had to do it once on the lawn and it was twice as difficult.
Paul, Good Tip, Thanks! - Stiles
Good work. To make things go easier for you , take a floor jack and raise from the front bumper on the 1054, slide it on a concrete floor and lower the front, makes positioning the deck so much easier.
Terry, Yep, sliding the Deck on anything other than Grass is easier. I chose to show how the Deck was designed to be installed. I take my Deck off each winter to store the Tractor, I was taking it off so I could use the Tractor with a Snow Plow, but that sucks compared to a Snow Plow on the F-150. I appreciate the comment! - Stiles
Thank you. One of the best instruction videos I have seen. You provide so much detail and I love it. I love the maintenance portion too. I learned a lot.
Bill, You are welcome! I appreciate the compliment and feedback! - Stiles
I don't care who you are, a freakin gorilla, or a tiny person, this isn't an easy job. You did a bang up job, no matter what Larry might say
Pete, ok, very good. I appreciate the feedback. - Stiles
Hey, thank you for doing this. I was just given a Cub Cadet GT1554 that had not been ran in three years. I'm working on bring it back up to operational and then donating it to a youth camp that is in desperate need of a mower. I'm not a mechanic and have never owned a rider mower so I have been doing all the repairs with RUclips videos and advice from my independantly owned, local shop. It's been an adventure but I'm really enjoying it!
I'm glad it helped, thanks for the comment! - Stiles
I own a 2006 SLT 1554 , my mower has the 27 HP Kohler Command engine , it now has 970 hours . I do try and take care of it , but it
takes a beating on my 5 acre site . Many SLT 1554 have the 27 HP Kohler Courage . I was told years ago you could order with the Command engine as an extra .
Anyway , I am proud of the hard work my Mower has accomplished over the years . Nice Video , but personally , i take my mower to the shop , and they maintain .
I am quite determined to see how many hours i can get , but surely will be well over 1,000 hours of work. One thing i have never had serviced is the transmission , I have had the
drive belt replaced , but wondered if the transmission fluid can be changed ? i looked once and noted it was an Eaton Unit ., Eaton make tractor trailer stuff . interesting . ant comments are appreciated in my quest to keep my 2006 SLT 1554 going strong
BATang, I've heard negative things about the Kohler Engines for years, but I have only experienced the Head Gasket problem (see link to the Stiles Automotive Video below). I'm happy with my Kohler Engine.
At some point Cub Cadet put a Drain Plug in the bottom of the Hydrostatic Transaxle, I don't believe my 2005 or your 2006 have the Drain Plug. (And if you have the Drain Plug, there is a Fill Plug at the top). If you do have the Drain Plug your Transaxle contains .600 to .632 gal of 20W-50 motor oil. And note: Any time the fluid has been drained from a hydrostatic transaxle, the air should be purged from the system on initial start-up.
Since you plan on keeping your Tractor, I help you find good information (service manuals) on the Tractor and Engine in this video: Data Plate and Sticker Location, Determine Manufacture Year, Model & Serial Numbers, Cub Cadet Tractor. ruclips.net/video/AZkyspJ-iuE/видео.html
I appreciate your comment! - Stiles
Head Gasket Replacement (Detailed), V-Twin Kohler-Cub Cadet Engines ruclips.net/video/x5PW6r8uRsE/видео.html
Figure I mention that I have the same tractor and the transaxle is completely serviceable. There are instructions in the service manual. I had to completely remove the body and gas tank to be able to get to the fill port however. I doubt the fluid had ever been changed and was full of metal and worn out oil. Still a very slow machine but new oil has made a huge difference in how it operates.
Thank you so much. I lost my husband and I've just had to replace the belt on my mower and I could not get the mower deck reattached. It's things like this that I need help with. Great video, easy to follow.
You are very welcome! I've always said that if my video helps one person, it was worth making. I appreciate the feedback! - Stiles
Good video very helpful have the same mower the little hints you gave to installing the deck really made the job easier I give you a thumbs up
Ralph, I appreciate the comment! - Stiles
Fantastic vid. Now I'm armed with good info on buying a mower I'm looking at thanks!
Super T, You are very welcome and I appreciate the feedback. Once you own a Cub Cadet Tractor, one of the most valuable videos that I have done, that will help you find the Manuals to work on, maintain, and buy parts for your Tractor is (Link below). I hope you find it useful as well! - Stiles

I have a deck like this it's a pain you really helped me thank you

hi, I too have a SLT 1554 and my mechanic showed me how to install my mower under my tractor and believe me I have no problem installing it now, he told me to mount my mower and believe me it works and much less complicated, just a little tip
Michel, You said, "mount my mower". What do you mean? - Stiles
The best instructional video I’ve seen. Awesome step by step. Thank you!
You're very welcome! I appreciate the feedback, I attempt to do my best! - Stiles
If you do not have an impact wrench put a crowbar through the holes where the spindles are to keep the blade from turning till you can get the nut to turn and also works while tightening it also.
Alan, Great Tip! I don't always use an Impact, but this is one task that it works well. I appreciate the comment! - Stiles
Great mower deck maintenance video/education. Its my first time to see check balance blades on a screw driver, it may be good. I've used a nail driven into a piece of wood to chek balance. I've also cleaned grass/debris from under(bottom) mower deck and used Rust Converter to convert rust into a protective barrier. When you pointed out your Super LT 1554 label, I realized it has a 54" deck, and I just realized that a Cub Cadet LT 1550 has a 50" deck.
Larry, That's a good tip to clean the Deck and hit it with the Rust Converter. I spray parts of the Tractor with WD-40 on occasion, but it does have some rust. I'd say the
Screwdriver is a little less accurate than the Nail or Screw on the Wall or Bench, both of which are not as good a Blade Balance Device that has a Bearing Pivot Point. How well does the Blade need to be balanced is the question. The Nail, Screw, or Screwdriver keeps you in the Ballpark. If you balance the Blade off of the mower, and then install it on the Spindle Bearing w/Pulley is it balanced anymore? On the event of the first rock you hit or the first wet grass you mower (for that matter) is the Blade balanced anymore? I do know the longer the Blade or the faster you spin it the better you want to be balanced. Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive Yes, I almost mentioned that, the Blade Balance Device that has a Pivot Point - cone-shaped device balancing on a center fulcrum. I think if you mow wet grass, the three blades are spinning at the same very high speed, thus likely distributing small amount of weight evenly across each blade. I have mowed some serious amounts of grass in my lifetime utilizing push mowers, riding mowers, and zero turn mowers. I have sharpened blades using hand grinders to bench grinders. On a side note: If a mower engine has a puff of blue smoke on start up, a few (4) ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) to a gallon of gas will do wonders for that blue puff. Additionally, the (MMO) will clean cylinder carbon, lubricate the piston bore, clean the carb, and run smoother. I had a riding mower with a 23 HP Kohler and the MMO fixed the blue puff, it started instantly, and ran smoother. Thanks for the feedback!
Great vid. I’ve taken my deck off numerous times and fought with it each time. I’ve
Had problems getting the lifting tabs lined up. I’ve found that a spud bar under the front
roller with a 4x4 fulcrum block works great to be able to adjust for the pin to set.
Kim, Good tip, thanks for the comment! - Stiles
Thanks good video helped me a lot.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
Try jacking the mower up to get the front tires over the deck. Then, slide the deck under the mower. Let it back down when you are ready to attach deck to frame
Parademan, The mower was originally design to have the Deck easily removable. With the 54" Deck its not as easy, but still doable. Yep the front wheels are in the way. - Stiles
Nice job just got a cub and going through it almost ready now I can get it together, thanks for a good video
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
Thanks for the vid, really helped me out!
You are welcome! I feel like if the video helps even one person it is worth it. Thanks for the comment. - Stiles
Thanks for this! My front roller fell off of my LT1550 and I'm still trying to find the pin and one of the spacers. I imagine the blades probably grabbed that pin and slung it off into the woods somewhere, so I might be needing a new one. But now I can see how it goes back on. I'll use your tips and do some work on the deck while I'm at it.
Brian, I normally don't reply this quickly, but you caught me on the computer. I'm glad my video helped you. I thought this Cub Cadet Website which I use for some parts and like to use for Parts look up, may help you. I did videos on how to find your Tractor Model & Serial Numbers, this website page is for my Serial Number, but the Roller (Item 33), Pin (Item 20) and 2x Spacers (Item 50) may be the same as mine. If buying parts, put in your Serial Number. Thanks for the positive comment! - Stiles

@@StilesAutomotive Yeah, I've found that website too. I usually look up the part, then find it for a better price on amazon or ebay. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your hints and your maintenance tips

Stephen, Your are very welcome. One of my most helpful videos for the DYI maintainer is the one on Tractor Make and Model Information and finding Maintenance Manuals (See link below). I appreciate the comment. - Stiles

I found on my GT1554 that sliding the deck from the left side to be so much easier.
Jody, That's interesting, can you tell me why? Do you think the Mower Deck is narrower on the Rightside? I remove it like shown in the video, because of the Outlet Chute makes the Deck longer and may interfere when sliding the Deck under the Tractor. I did a little research by referencing the Manual for our Tractor and one other Similar Tractor (the LTX series) and they both say to remove the Mower Deck to the Rightside of the Tractor.
I did notice one thing in the Manual that I don't do: Remove the Deck Stabilizer Assembly from the Tractor prior to Deck removal. I leave it on the Tractor and use a small Bungee and Tie it up out of the way when the Deck is off of the Tractor. - Stiles
I have to remove again in the next couple days, so I will try both ways. My chute has been gone for years so I don’t know if that makes a difference. I also have a GT1554
I really love your tip about the bungee cord cause that stabilizer always get in my way.
My drive belt has been breaking the last couple years. Used Cubs belt and off market belt. Do you thing it’s a pulley problem. Went over 12 years without it breaking it. Have shredded 2 in a year. Thanks, I would appreciate your input.
@@jodythompsonart335 Jody, maybe you have a Pulley Alignment Problem, did one Pulley get damaged? Cub Cadet has an alignment procedure for the CVT Drive. Or also likely a Belt Quality issue. I have the Hydrostatic Drive, I've replaced the Drive Belt once in 18 years, and I didn't need to. I got a stick up into the Belt, which is not easy to do, but it happened. I thought it was the Belt, so I purchased a new Drive Belt and went ahead and replaced it. If you have the CVT Belt System, it takes much more wear and abuse, because of the engagement system. - Stiles
Thanks for the video
Ronnie, You are very welcome! - Stiles
Thanks for making it easy!
Allen, You are very welcome, I appreciate the feedback! - Stiles
Thanks. Happy 2021
You're Welcome! - Stiles
I got my GT 1554 this year and the first thing I had to do was put a belt on the deck as it didn't have one when I got it. Your belt must be longer or your tensioning spring weak because there was no way I could just pull it back by hand. I did realize though that there was a square hole in the tensioning arm and so much like on a car engine a breaker bar in the hole let me detention the belt and then it went on easily. really an easy process compared to my Craftsman 42" deck with 6 hair pins to install. I'm lovimg ,y 15 year old "New" tractor!
Tim, No my Tensioner Pulley doesn't move by hand either. My belt must be slightly longer than yours. If I ever do another Mower Deck video I'll have to mention the square hole in the Tensioner. Thanks for the comment. - Stiles
I wish I could get mine to move even with a bar. I'm having a heck of a time getting the belt on. I replaced it p ast year but this year it threw it about 2 months ago. Now I can't get it to budge. The spring is so tight I can actually see where it's torn the steel on the arm. Any suggestions?
Thank you!!!
Stephen, You are very welcome! - Stiles
I have the same problems putting on my deck i have an slt1550,wanted to see about replacing that roller in frt of deck in the center, about 6in long.
Mark, for me it is just a tight fit getting the deck under the tractor. If you have the problem similar to Mr. Larry McCraw (see his comments below) then, like I told Larry. You need to get the Manual and adjust your mower deck (see the comments below for Operator's Manual information). Thanks for the comment and good luck with your SLT 1550! - Stiles
Thank u.
You're very welcome! - Stiles
This is really great, thanks!
Russ, Thanks for the Comment! You are welcome. - Stiles
This is the easiest to understand deck install video that I've seen, yet. Thank you. I have a problem though, hope you can help. I removed the deck from my 16yo gt2550. When i went to put it back on, the height lever, still in the highest position, is stuck. The button depresses, but that lever is jammed tight. Also, and probably related, is that those black levers that the pins go in won't move up or down, either. I have no clue as to what or where?! I'm grateful for any suggestions.
Cathy, It sounds your cable (or cables) got messed up, twisted or something. This hasn't happened on my Tractor, but without the Deck attached you need to help the levers move underneath where they attach to the Deck. - Stiles
Dude.....Thank you.
You're welcome! I hope the video helped you! - Stiles
Awesome vid (best I've seen!)... you make it look so easy! I've got the 1050 but its almost exactly the same (difference is 50in deck and front pin is different). I do struggle a little with the weight of the deck but its good for the muscles! :) Just two quick questions if I may... you mentioned you use the tractor for spraying, how do you do that? Also, today after a tonne of mowing my deck cable broke (cable to lower the deck) - do you have a vid to show how to change that?
Maree, I appreciate the comment! Your Questions: 1) I use a Tractor Supply Spreader that I pull behind the Tractor for Granular Fertilizer & Weed/Feed. I don't remember what I said about it, probably that the Fertilizer causes corrosion and you (and I) need to wash the Spreader & Tractor after use. 2) I don't, however I did a video to show how to determine your Cub Cadet Tractor, model, year, and engine and then find the references for them. (More below) - - -

If you find the Cub Cadet 1000/1500 Series Riding Tractors Service Manual, Page 17, DECK LIFT CABLES AND PULLEYS. Talks about Cable replacement and then how to adjust and level the Deck after replacement. Again, thanks for the comment! - Stiles
raise the front of deck on a block
for easier install!!
Linuxxr, Great Tip Thanks! - Stiles
Great video. I have the same tractor but 50in deck. My blades have a star in the center. Not round, so it's difficult to balance it. I don't know how you were able to get that belt on, my deck has an idler roller with a heavy heavy spring to keep tension. Right now I'm in the process of replacing the steering bushing. And the main drive belt. I guess I might as well do the deck service while it is off.
Joe, I replaced the Drive Belt and the Steering Bushing a few years ago, prior to doing videos. The Steering Bushing replacement would have made a great video, my Tractor had Plastic Bushings, I couldn't believe it when I saw that they were plastic. For the Deck Belt, make sure the Belt is on all of the Deck Pulleys, put it on the Drive Pulley with the Deck forward, then being careful, slide the Deck back and into that front Mounting Rod. Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
So I got the 1550 with the 50 inch deck. I'll never take it off again. Totally kick my ass trying to get it back on. Would be so much easier if they made the freaking tractor just one inch longer.
Thank you for the video. Can you show how you hooked up the tension spring for the idler pulley?
C Fan, You are Welcome. Are you asking about the Spring (Item 35 in the link below) for the Tensioner Pulley on the Mower Deck? The Spring is bolted to the Deck under the Leftside Cover and goes thru the hole in the Tensioner Arm (Idler Arm Assembly).
Or are you asking how to get the Deck Belt on the Tensioner Pulley? As I show in the video, 1) put the Deck Belt on all of the Pulleys on the Mower Deck, 2) Put the Deck under the Tractor, 3) Ensure the Belt is still on all of the Deck Pulleys and Put the Deck Belt on to the PTO Clutch Pulley, 4) Move the Deck back and into the proper position under the Tractor. As you do Step 4 the Tensioner Spring will do its job.
Let me know if this failed to address the question. - Stiles

it’s easiest to get the deck u get the mower if you jack up the front and it just slides under the fronts, just make sure the bar is put over the deck before letting it down
Big, I know, I use to carry a Steel 3-Ton Floor Jack from my shop to the Lawn Mower Shed, then bought a littler weight Aluminum Jack for the Task. You don't need to, and if Cub Cadet designed it better, it would be easier, that is the point of my video. Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive definitely could be designed better, it took me two days to get the deck on then had to take it back off be cause the drive belt came off a spindle, so i had to repeat the process, now i need a new drive belt because it snapped in half😂
I have the same lawn more as you i'm having trouble with my carburetor
Cub cadet superlt1554
Red, Your Carburetor probably just needs a good cleaning. I honestly haven't ever cleaned mine (even when I had it apart for the Head Gasket Replacement (See my Video) and I never shutoff the Fuel or Ran the Tractor out of Fuel. I recently installed a Fuel Shutoff Valve when I replaced the Fuel Filter (See video, links are below). So My Carb could stand a good cleaning too. - Stiles

my mechanic told me to climb on top of my mower with my tractor and in no time my mower went underneath and it was done, I did the same thing as with the John Deere tractor that you mount on the mower with your tractor to install it
ok, the John Deere is designed to drive the Tractor across the Deck. You did the same with the Cub Cadet? - Stiles
Hey if you still got this thing can you show the front deck hanger I bought a Cub cadet and it didn’t come with that piece and I’m not sure what to buy
Polecat, this video shows how to determine for Tractor information and the video description has a link to the service manual, which you need to properly adjust that front deck mount.

@@StilesAutomotive thanks a lot I’ll definitely let you know how it goes
wondering if you can explain how to tighten the belt on this machine? I replaced the belt...but the tension spring is really really loose and the belt is wobbly...I can't really see how to adjust it. do you have a video on that?
Angela, I didn't talk about adjustment of the Mower Deck Belt in the video because you don't adjust it. If you look at the video at 1:22, I point to the "Pivot Point" and "Spring", this is the Pivot of the Deck Belt Tensioner, the Deck Belt Tensioner maintains pressure on the Belt so no adjustment is required. If your Belt is loose, you may have purchased the wrong Belt, or it sounds like if your Spring is loose, something may have happened with your Spring. My Spring is very tight and hard to move, even with the Belt off of the Deck. Let me know how it goes! - Stiles
I see a 54 inch deck for sale for $350 and mine is an Super LT 1550 with a 25HP courage V-Twin. I wonder if it will fit? and not kill my tractor?
NHBuddy, I don't think it would hurt your Tractor, if it fits. I don't see anything in the Cub Cadet: Owner's or Service Manuals about interchangeability of Mower Decks. The Deck Belt routing Diagram in the Owner's manual is for both the 50 in and 54 in Decks, which gives hope that it would fit. I put a link to my Video on Sticker Locations which gives links to the Manuals, below. I cut and pasted the little bit of information from the Service Manuals on Decks, below (Not helpful). 1.6. Decks: Cutting decks ranging in width from 38” to 54” have been used on the 1000 Series platform.
1.7. There have been multiple versions of some decks, most particularly the 42”. Check the serial number when researching for parts or service information.
1.8. The deck size is identified by the 8th digit of the factory number: See Figure 1.8.
@@StilesAutomotive Thanks, I appreciate it. As it turns out, he has a 50 inch deck, that I'll likely buy for a back up..
Have you seen any decent videos regarding changing the hydrolic oil in the transmission? From what I've seen, I'm pretty sure I will have to drop it out of the tractor on the model SLT 1550. Pretty sure yours is identical.
Thanks again!
Use a jack and original bumper, no?
Ronnie, Yep, you can do that, but the Deck is designed to be removed/installed without Tools. I removed my Bumper years ago when I was running a Snow Plow in the Winter. You can also use a Floor Jack back under the Axle/Frame area, but be careful not to get on the Muffler Guard. The Front Bumper is a good place to Lift from. - Stiles
What if one side of the deck is in the hook in the front and the other side is not and keeps falling out.
Stan, That sounds frustrating. It doesn't normally happen to me, and I install my Deck on the Grass which impedes smooth movement. You have to roll the Deck straight back. If you are not, using a concrete or other hard surface should make the task easier. Also, make sure all of your Deck Wheels turn freely, you should be lubing them. - Stiles
I have the Cub cadet Super Lt1554 I had to replace the tensioner pulley assembly. I got the pulley put on the bracket. I can't remember if the spring connects to the bracket going under or over? Can someone attach a picture?
Sherry, In this Mower Deck Video at 2:47 you can see the Tensioner Spring, it starts over and goes down. Its not a great view of the Spring but it is the best I can find. The Cub Cadet Parts Manual doesn't show it very well. I hope this helps! - Stiles
Wish you would have shown the removal of the deck. I’m sure I can figure it out.
Bernie, Yep, is not to bad: 1) Use the Deck Handle to lower the Mower Deck, 2) Pull and Turn the Rear Pins, 3) Raise the Deck Handle and ensure the Bar come out of the Deck, 4) Push (or Scooch) the Mower Deck forward a little, 5) Remove the Mower Deck Belt from the Drive Pulley, 6) Move the Mower Deck around to get the Deck off of the Lift Rod in the front of the Mower Deck, 7) Use a Small Bungee to hold the Lift Rod up and out of the way, and then simply 8) Slide the Mower Deck out from under the Mower (Watch this video on how to do that). Let me know how it goes! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive Thank You for that! Very helpful.
Love this video. However, I'm experiencing some serious wobble in my (new) belt when I engage the PTO. Also, my mower (with the 54 inch deck) tends to eat up two belts a year. I got this thing secondhand and I doubt it has ever seen proper service or maintenence before me. Any suggestions as to what might be causing these problems?
Andrew, My Tractor is a 2005 (16 years?) with 200 hours on it, I have put on one Drive Belt and I think I'm on my 2nd Deck Belt (but it needs to be replaced, I have the space hanging on the wall). Here is a couple of things: 1) You need to lube and ensure the Tensioner Pully (I'm touching it in the video at 2:02) is moving freely, and the spring is very strong, it should put a lot of tension on the Deck Belt. This will help with your wobble. 2) With the Deck Belt off, you need to inspect each Pulley on the Belt working surface to ensure each Pulley is Burr free, a light sanding or a little filing may be required. 3) Ensure each Pulley on the Deck turns freely, if one does not, the Belt is likely sliding on this Pulley and causing wear., 4) (did I say "a couple") A V-Belt can handle quite a bit of misalignment, but ensure all of your Pulleys on the Deck are flat (Spindle Bearings are perpendicular, Pulleys parallel to the Deck). Meaning, has the Deck been damaged? This is unlikely since you didn't mention it. And . . . Note: there is a lot of Deck Belt misalignment designed into the Tractor from Drive Pulley on the PTO Clutch to the first Driven Pulley. and 5) Make sure the Deck Belt stays dry and oil free during operation. Let me know how it goes! - Stiles
It's a sturdy deck. Have you tried lining up the deck and drive over the top of the deck? That is how I used to put on my mower deck on my Low Boy 154
Douglas, Yes, I have seen that on a number of John Deere Lawn Tractors, but to drive across my Deck you would need to build a ramp to get the front Wheels up and over the Deck. If you are going to do that you could also use a Floor Jack and lift the front of the Tractor. Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive I've had success lining it up and pulling it over via the front bumper. I find that's easier than trying to go in from the side on these 54" units.
@@hybridlightsolutions6515 HLS, Yep, there a probably a number of things you could do, use a Floor Jump to lift the front Wheels, use a Hoist to pickup the Tractor, make ramps so you can drive over the Deck, but . . . you shouldn't have to. I appreciate the comment, it may help someone in the future! - Stiles
Thank you for your video is really helpful , i got a question I have a SLT 1550 cub cadet tractor 50" deck and i need a deck for it ,do you think that a deck of a LTX1050 would fit on my tractor?
Jose, It may, and like will. Here is how you can tell. For the 1000 Series Tractors, (that is what the 2 Tractors you mentioned, and my SLT 1554 are) it looks like for many years the 50" Deck are the same. I have a 2005, your SLT 1550 Tractor is a 2006 or newer and your Tractor Serial Number is something like: 13AQ11BP756 and your 8th digit is a "P" indicating a 50 in Deck. For the LTX1050, if you get a Deck for the correct year it will work, look for a Serial Number like: 13AQ11CP710 (for 2005) or 13AP11CP756 (for 2006 & newer). Look at the 8th Digit they are both "P"s that is what you want.
I could be wrong, all 50" Decks maybe similar and work, but I don't think so. I'm working this hard to steer you in the right direction.
Also, Although the Different 1000 Series Tractors have the same Deck they have different Deck/PTO Belts. You will likely need the Deck Belt from your SLT 1550.

I had a question for you about these cadets. Do you know if the lawnmower will move with the deck removed or does the transmission use the deck belt in it's operation?
Malachi, No these Cub Cadets have a Deck Belt and a Drive Belt. I use to have a snow blade for the front of my tractor and would remove the deck to plow snow. - Stiles
I have the GT 1554, the one sold at Cub Cadet, a few differences, but mostly heavier steel than the big box store models. The trouble I have is even with the deck on the number one position, it still seems to cut very low. I've adjusted to spec, so I'm wondering if the cables have stretched. I assume that the right/left level adjuster doesn't raise the deck. So I'm kinda stumped here. I have some rough stuff to cut, but this deck cuts grass down to golf course heights.
James, I don't think the Deck Cables are adjustable, so replacement may be necessary like you say. You may have properly adjusted the Deck, but to be sure:
1) Determine your Model Number and Serial Number
1a) Watch my video if you need to - - Data Plate and Sticker Location, Determine Manufacture Year, Model & Serial Numbers, Cub Cadet Tractor. ruclips.net/video/AZkyspJ-iuE/видео.html
2) Get your Service Manual (this link is in the Date Plate video, but I copy here for your convenience - - www.cubcadet.com/en_US/operatorsmanuals
2a) My Cub Cadet Service Manual is for the 1000/1500 Series Riding Tractors, that includes the GT 1500 series. My Tractor is a 2005 SLT 1554. Get the correct manual for your Tractor.
3) My Service Manual has the Cable replacement in Section 13, Page 17 and the Mower Deck Leveling in Section 14, Page 18, You should ensure you do the Deck Leveling task first, as you go step by step thru the procedure, note Figure 14.11 see how the 2 threaded ends of the Deck Stabilizer Bracket are even, same amount of thread on each side? And note that there are about 1" to 1 1/4" of threads showing (the amount of thread is NOT how you adjust it, however this amount of thread is about right.)!
4) Also, the first step to leveling the Deck is "Check Tire Pressure", did you ever change the Tire Size on your Tractor to a smaller size?
Let me know how it goes! and if you have any other questions! - Stiles
The previous owner burnt the sticker off the seat bracket welding on it. I know it's a 2006, people at Cub Cadet were a big help figuring that out. End of season I'm going to tear it apart, and see what I need.
When I put on the deck, I just lift the front end up off the ground on jacks or have someone lift it for me.
Donn, that might make it easier, but I believe Cub Cadet designed the Tractor and Deck, so that the Deck can be removed like I show in the video. Thanks for the comment! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive I used to do it that way, and it works, but like you said, it's a bit tedious!

Great Video Sir !!
...was looking for someone to 'show me' how to remove/reattach that cutting deck.
I'm having to fight my Cadet to get those Two Locking Pins to Lock into position
on the back of the Deck
But .. will win !
Randy, I think the challenge is, most people remove the deck once or less each year, I remove mine in the winter to store it. The more you do it the easier it becomes. I use to use a medium size screwdriver to move the pins, which is still hard, but I have learned to keep them clean and well greased so I can move them with my hand and did I show in the video how to position them? Pull them out and cock them to the side so they stay out, prior to putting the deck under the tractor. You will get it! Thanks for the comment - Stiles
