      Emmett, That is a good idea, I have thought of that. My top Joint is close enough to the Exhaust Manifold that heat is a factor. I know Granger ( the industrial supply company) use to have some mechanical transmission/shaft boots, but I have not investigated this at all. You know if Ford would have done a boot from the factory, like you suggest, these Bearings would last forever. My 2011 Mustang Shelby GT500 check engine light came on and when I used an OBD2 code reader is had a diag. code 0456. I cleaned the capless filler area, ,used WD40 around the filler hole/flap and then used the nozzle from the gas pump to go in/out several times. Cleared the code and haven't had it come back so assume the problem was the filler flap not closing properly due to dirt/grime.

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive 12 дней назад

      SFC Jerry, Yep, Ford uses these IWEs (integrated wheel ends) for a reason (or 2): 1) disengaging them gives you better Gas Mileage, 2) engaged all the time causes the front axle to spin, causing more wear. (and I might add, with no benefit, because your Transfer Case is not driving the Front Axle). If I were you, I'd continue to investigate and figure out what the problem is. - Stiles And . . . as I hit the reply button . . . Ford tells us in the F-150 Owner's Manual "Do not use 4X4 mode on dry, hard surfaced roads. Doing so will produce excessive noise, increase tire wear and may damage drive components. 4X4 mode is only intended for consistently slippery or loose surfaces." Ford doesn't (I haven't seen it) say in 4WD you should limit your speed, however, I use to drive my 2005 F-150 with 225,000 miles on it, at 80 miles per hour in 2H. I wouldn't do the with the IWEs engaged. Oh, and on other thing, your 2017 has a Traction Control System, you may be confusing that system, may be not, but may be. - Stiles

    • @StilesAutomotive

      SFC Jerry, Again, like my reply to your other comment, 4A keeps the IWEs engaged for when the Control System determines a need for 4WD. This will use more Gas and a little more wear on your front Axle Components. - Stiles

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive 18 дней назад

      Sorbpen, Yep, I'm talking about different people's recommended recipes. And, then I state what I use, the 10 to 1 ratio of Wax to PTFE or 2 lbs of wax to 100 g of PTFE. I think you are talking about the UltraFast Lube which also uses MoS2. Here is the deal: the Wax is just what holds the PTFE into the Joint that we want lubricated. The Teflon (PTFE) is the actual lubricant, it just won't stay in the Joint without something to hold it there. The more Teflon in your mix the better. - Stiles

      Nick, Make sure you are using a excessive amount of PB Blaster (or other penetrant), try to gently wiggle the Cooler Line, in and out, and side to side. Then attempt to push the Tool into the Quick Disconnect. Be careful with the Lisle Tool, you can break it. If you are fully committed to replacing the Cooler Line, (meaning you have the new Line in your hand and you are sure it is the right one) you could cut the old Line near the Quick Disconnect (QD) and remove the QD from the Radiator. Take the QD to the Bench Vise and play with it there. - Stiles

    • @Blenzo480

      This is from the ford workshop Manuel Active Grille Air Shutter Description and Operation The active grille air shutter system closes shutters in the front grille to enhance vehicle aerodynamics in driving situations where cooling and A/C loads are relatively low and high levels of front end airflow are not required. If high levels of airflow are required the active grille air shutter system will open one or both shutters. The control signal from the engine control module, ignition and ground circuits enable the active grille air shutter actuators to operate. If the conditions for opening the shutters are reached the engine control module commands the active grille air shutter actuators to open one or both shutters. The dual active grille air shutter system consists of two aero shutter mechanisms located in the front grille for controlling the amount of air flowing through the grille. It includes three wires; ground, power and a Local Interconnect Network (LIN) Bus serial data circuit from the engine control module to the shutter actuator. The engine control module determines shutter state based on various vehicle conditions such as vehicle speed, coolant temperature, fan state, refrigerant system pressure, A/C compressor state and ambient temperature. The engine control module has the ability to command each shutter individually to the open or closed positions through communications on the LIN Bus. The actuators are powered by an ignition circuit that is active when the key is in the RUN position. The vehicle may have to be driven for up to 13 minutes at speeds greater than 41km/h (25mph) before a shutter begins to move. If low ambient temperature is detected, the shutters will remain in the closed position.

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive 24 дня назад

      Blenzo, I see your reply to your comment, I appreciate a person that references Ford's Written Materials. Yes, I agree the aerodynamics is greatly improved, like going from a Rough Brick to a Smooth Brick. Engine temperature, however, greatly effects Brake Specific Fuel Consumption, the warm up period on Engines is a huge fuel waster. I appreciate your comments! - Stiles *** If you are reading this, be sure to read Blenzo's reply below for more information on the Ford Shutter operation! ***

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive 24 дня назад

      John, You are welcome! I you are working with an OEM (at least Ford's) Transmission Cooler System there is no need to bleed or purge the System. The Transmission Pump puts the Fluid under pressure when it runs it thru the Cooler, this will push the Air to the Transmission. You do need to properly fill the Transmission and use the Ford Operators Manual to determine the proper Fluid level. Go back after driving the Truck and check the level again. - Stiles

    Where can you locate the bolts for the bottom of the condenser that you were having an issue with right there on the side of the radiator part because I’m having an issue with those bolts taking out those quick releases so I was trying to locate the bolts themselves

    Hi I’ve got a question.. i had several old coils from my truck over the years and I’m new to using a multi meter. On the primary circuit I’m getting a reading of 0.6 On the secondary circuit I had to switch the the multi meter to to K OHMS and/or M Ohms because the secondary circuit would not get a reading using the regular Ohms Stetting. The reading I got from the secondary circuit 7.21 K Ohms. So is this coil bad or good? Sorry it might sound stupid to you but I just want to make sure I’m doing it right.

      Javier, No, probably not the case, your Seals on the Quick Disconnect Fitting is just old and leaky. - Stiles

    Shit i don’t get any reading on the secondary circuits. I’ve got a box of old coils from my truck that I replaced years back but they all can’t be bad. I wonder what’s going on?

    If I clean the motorcraft maf sensor ,will the engine light go off. I have the duralast maf sensor and the mechanic said it's calling for the original maf sensor.

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive Месяц назад

      Ricric, By cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) regularly is helps the signal response quicker, but often the Sensor can be very dirty and the Check Engine Light will not come on. If the OBDII Fault Code indicates a MAF Sensor, cleaning will likely not help, does hurt to try, but likely will not help. Some of the non-OEM parts are ok, but I much prefer Motorcraft Parts for Electronic Part like these Sensors. - Stiles

    They also did tests on the oil and the test results show less silica, less lead ,less iorn then paper filters so the people saying they don't filter well see absolutely full of shit

    Thanks for the breakdown. It really seems then, that a broken vacuum line (they get brittle in Nevada) would cause the 4 wheel drive to engage on its own... When you are not asking it to do so, in any way. More likely that than the 4x4 electronic shift motor

    Watched your door panel removel, was wondering why you skipped the part were you lubricaded the regulater.

      @StilesAutomotive 24 дня назад

      User, I don't recall, did I talk about lubricating the Window Regulator and just didn't show it? That is great reason to remove the Door Panel and an older Truck is just to Lube the moving parts and the Door Latch too! - Stiles

    • @StilesAutomotive
      @StilesAutomotive Месяц назад

      DRakkak, Some people say not to and sometime the directions say to wait a short period to let the Electrolyte absorb into the Glass Mat Membrane. And some say to wait because the Battery gets hot. I have not experienced the Battery getting warm. It gets warm when you charge it anyway. And, I add the Electrolyte fairly slow anyway, I don't think it is a big deal. I don't force the Electrolyte into the Battery, I let it flow, like I show in the Video. - Stiles

      @@StilesAutomotive I asked because mine don't....and it looks like it should, except the groove isnt wide enough. I replaced the radiator and the fitting appear to be slightly different. I may have to sand the clip down a bit to make it thin enough to fit it the groove.

      This is a great subject! My buddy was a m-1 driver and I asked him about it. Low and behold he had never heard of it. I guess he was sheltered being on the colonels tank. Most of his time they barely had ammo in the tank . Mostly boxes of pop tarts.
