I know that what Michael Phelps has said concerning commitment is true of most successful athletes, especially those who have paid the price for their success stories. Sometimes, the media does not even cover their stories.

This is an interesting and motivating talk by Michael Phelps, but I think it would be a lot more effective without all of the distracting and unnecessary background visuals. The subtitles in the middle of the screen are distracting as well. It would be good to see this video reposted without all of the distractions and subtitles with just him speaking. If there are subtitles they should be at the bottom of the screen and not right in the middle.
I’d love to know more about why he says if swimmers take 1 day off, takes them 2 to get it back. Any swimmers that can explain this and/or agree? Because it’s body movement so different from everyday movement, is that why
hard to explain, but its not like anything youd experience with land based athletics- you literally can feel the impact of taking a day or two off. you just dont feel "normal". if you lift or go to the gym the best analogy is like weights you can normally lift with ease, and having them feel particularly heavy on a random day.
Feel for the water is the difference. IMO you need to go and do swim squad 10+ x a week for years to understand. Closest way to describe it though if you already know how to swim well is to go and do 25-50m fresh and think about holding that technique for a 3-5km set. Michael is on a different planet to most of us though and may be more eloquent in his explanation.
I was a collegiate swimmer, it’s true in the fact that it’s not so much as being missing a day makes you 2 days out of shape but when you train in water, you lose the “feel” of the pulling the water and it takes a little bit to get it back if you take a break too long. I never noticed it taking one day off but definitely when I took more than 3-4 days off.
Psychological help for sportmen and women is highly underrated. It shd be part of their training i always see the greatest go thru some emotional turmoil of championship - i'm a loser iwouldn't know but i know it is there. Simone biles had it, michael phelps had it ian thorpe, caleb dressel, etc etc.. the list is endless. Psychological coaching in sports shd be a specialised field

Unfortunately you are definitely not welcome into the Athletics Australia community if you are living with depression anxiety or any other mental health issues so don’t bother with athletics! Athletics here in Australia is a toxic environment the track is no safe place and the bullying and harassment that goes on
To do doping 10x times, I still wouldn't achieve even 1% of his results. Sure, and I wouldn't even want that. The problem is precisely in being foolish about it; potential should be demonstrated without doping, not glorifying cheaters! @@leopard5810
Yes he’s a great swimmer but he should work on other areas of life. Like being kind enough to stop and say hello to kids in a college where he was using their pool for, well I forgot why, it was a while ago. He never talked to the kids at Maryland college. He ditched them. Not a great role model.
My friends and I had a similar experience at UT Austin in 2006. He would take pics with his swim friends but didn’t engage with us college kids even though he knew we waited for hours for a photo. I look back and think maybe he was too focused and he ran off bc his mom was there to pick him up. But he is one of the greatest swimmers of all time.

I used to think this was impossible when I was five, but now I realize there are no limits when it comes to doping.

Michael Phelps was is depression he told it in many interviews, but he never told a cause of his depression, anybody know ?

Love his content as a swimmer. Disappointing though post career for him to align himself with Pfizer.

We all know about your doping. Don't pretend.
you do 10x and won't reach 1% of his accomplishment.

He is only 39? why he looks sooooo old like 59....
Because of doping and drugs
But he was on PEDs. If you have a cheat code like that for a corporate job i'll take it...
Grow up all athletes are on drugs.

Your point would be a good debate with David Goggins. To get ahead, you've got to go dark to a whoooooole lot of superficial, fluffy stuff.
he had no that much time to get distracted to be mr. nice. you have to give up being mr.nice since you have very limited time as anybodt else.
