    At first I lamented we didn't get a proper Ifrit vs Odin, but the more I thought about it, the way this fight plays out makes sense.
    Barnabas, as a mere man, bests Clive twice. When they fight, it is as man vs man because it is as much a clash of steel as it is of wills. Sure, Barnabas is in complete control of Odin, but them mostly fighting as men drives that point even more, especially since this conflict is centered on whether or not man can defy god.
    Plus, seeing Barnabas elated that Clive, as a swordsman, is giving him the fight of his live was a cool detail.

Barnabus is just such a scary dude, and this fight really pressures you the whole time. Bahamut edges it out by a little bit, I still think that was the sickest boss fight in the game, but it's incredible to me how EVERY Eikon feels like it could be a final boss. I really think FFXVI has the best and most jaw-dropping boss fights I've ever seen in a game. Foreseen
    With steel, darkness comes

    • @TheKing-qz9wd
      @TheKing-qz9wd Год назад +5

      After checking someone's report of Titan's theme and it's parallels to Atlas, I am left wondering about the nature of Odin's lyrics.
      Twain and 8 feet for Slepnir, 2 for Odin. Although this Slepnir I only saw 4 hooves?
      Three eyes cuz Odin was supposed to lack one, but "and one", is that their unity or a reference to another?
      Foreseen cuz Odin was loved prophecy and counciling to avoid ragnarok if possible.
      Trained upon victory, and the steel both, Odin is certainly a fighting god.
      Darkness though?
      Darkness? Like, death? The ravens? Was "three eyes and one" not something like unity or the missing eye, but maybe even the "fenrir" fulfilled by the somewhat canine features of Ifrit? Maybe then the "darkness comes" was Fenrir consuming Odon atop Slepnir? Of was the one supposed to be the "Mythos" and not a Fenrir?
      Hell, am I completely off and the one was supposed to be the eye in the well?
      I dunno at the moment, cuz this and Titan's song clearly refer to the myths and not just the boss, yet something doesn't add up with him.

    • @Voidgear1
      @Voidgear1 Год назад

      @@TheKing-qz9wd The song is called "The Riddle" and you guessed it: it is an actual riddle. A quick google search showed me a scandinavian riddle ("Óðinn riddle", which is a variant of the international Rider-and-horse riddle):
      Who are those twain
      that on ten feet run,
      three their eyes are
      but only one tail?
      This riddle ponder
      O prince Heidrek!
      If you type "riddle ten feet three eyes" into google, you should find the Wikipedia entry. It is Odin on his horse Sleipnir.

    • @Azdaja13
      @Azdaja13 Год назад +16

      @@TheKing-qz9wd It's a reference to Norse mythology and a riddle contest Odin had with a king.
      The twain = Odin and Sleipnir
      On ten feet run = Odin and Sleipnir's leg number, bearing in mind in mythology Sleipnir is an eight-legged horse.
      Three eyes = Odin gave up one eye for power, and Sleipnir has two eyes so three eyes.
      One = Sleipnir's tail.
      All of those come directly from the original riddle Odin tells in the saga and are not references to Odin in-game which is why they "don't add up". For reference:
      "Then said Gestumblindi:
      (72) Who are those twain
      that on ten feet run,
      three their eyes are
      but only one tail?
      This riddle ponder,
      O prince Heidrek!"
      The Riddle song is pretty much paraphrasing the original riddle from the legends and just making it fit the tune. "Trained upon victory foreseen" though is about Barnabas as it's a reference to how he's tunnel-visioned onto his ultimate victory of seeing Ultima's plan to fruition and the heaven he believes he will create (and how Barnabas is a man who pretty much is focused purely on the future, and his fixation on fate and inevitability). "With steel, darkness comes!" is related to Odin's nature in XVI, being the Eikon of Darkness, and the steel being his sword.

      I did know some of this, some of my statements were along the lines of "it is a bit unusual to associate Odin with darkness". But I really do appreciate someone giving me a great answer for the "and one".
      It was his tail this whole time. What a surprise.

    • @Azdaja13
      @Azdaja13 Год назад +6

      @@TheKing-qz9wd Odin's association with darkness comes from XI and XIV where Odin is known as "The Dark Divinity". And possibly from Odin having been the instant death summon and how he's usually had skulls and other deathly associations. It's also probably because they needed an Eikon to represent darkness and just went with Odin to be opposite Bahamut. Odin's an odd one though because they keep changing his elemental affinity.

    I personally think Barnabus was the most intimidating and terrifying of the dominants in ff16. the first two fights that Clive has with Barnabus, Barnabus was not even semi-primed he was only using his arm of darkness ability nearly killed him. the only time Barnabus semi-primes was after he goes insane in his boss fight and activates the quieting.
    Another thing to take note was that Barnabus was able to switch to and from normal to semi-prime to primed states without much trouble on multiple occasions in a single day. compared to all other dominants, it takes so much out of the individual to initiate priming and come out primed states as seen by joshua and jill coming out of their primed states and are completely exhausted.

    This honestly feels like a true test of wills and strength rather than a fight to the death. Neither Barnabus or Clive fight with their Eikons - only the abilities they are given by the Creator as it's a classic steel-versus-steel clash. It's fights like these that make it all the more worthwhile to show just what two men can do as they demonstrate their mastery over the Eikons. And it didn’t help either the fact it was after Titan and Bahamut. Odin’s abilities (after you defeat him) are really sick and probably the strongest out of all the Eikon’s. It’s a shame that his Zantetsuken ability requires you to have at least one other Odin ability to power it up, as having two will make it extremely fast to get to the final level but that leaves you with only 4 other slots for all the other Eikons.

    One thing that would have elevated this fight is a real, gameplay-integrated back and forth between Ifrit and Clive. It's seen that Ifrit has the advantage over Odin, but loses to Semi-Primed Barnabas because he can move easily around him, while Clive can take Barnabas on the ground. You could have had much more transformation/detransformation between the two, a true duel of master and simulate "mind games" between the two. Plus, sick-looking Clive-Ifrit combos is something missing from this game.

    Everyone keeps saying This is Clive vs Barnabas no Eikons. Did we do the same fight? This was Clive vs Barnabas and Odin. Barnabas Transforms several times vs Clive. So it shows that barnabas was out of his league and proves the team wanted to show odin but ran out of time.
