Great video. Just a note. The interface has changed. I don't see Advanced anymore. As of June 2023, the 'External API Keys' and 'Code Injection' options are accessible through Developer Tools in Settings.
In my configuration settings I don’t have the option to “Send a page view event when this configuration loads”. Why? What shall I do? Shall I delete Google TrackingID from Squarespace so it doesn’t duplicate? I am using AG4
Hi Benjamin, I was hoping you would be able to share a tutorial on how to track form submissions as GA4 events within Square space using tag manger and GA4. Also thank you for your amazing videos, I have visited one of your Google workshops a little while back in Melbourne, would love to do more of those in person workshops!
Hi New comers, Now interface has been changed and now code injection option is available in developer tool so go to that section to paste code. Thanks Eliot for this.
For the combo implementatoin of built-in integration + GTM, we handled deduplication of page views, but what about purchases? Won't those be tracked by Squarespace's built in integration and GA4? How should we deduplicate that?
Great video - thanks so much! We've opted to trial using the built-in Squarespace option to track purchases through GA4, which we can see taking place. However, we can't see anything showing in revenue (in GA4) from these purchases, why is this and how can we set this up so that we can clearly see x products sold which resulted in a revenue of $x? Thanks!
I'm following your instructions now - at choose tag type (@5:58), GA4 configuration is no longer an option. Instead it looks like you're supposed to use "google tag" in combo with "Ga4 event"
My Google Analytics | GA4 | Button Click Tag doesn't work. After initially removing the Measurement ID on the Code Injection section of my Squarespace as you recommended, I then reinserted it as I sell products on my website just as you suggest. And I have disengaged the page view event in Google Tag Manager. Where am I getting it wrong? What has happened is I've only got User Engagement Google Analytics Hits (7) and 2 generate_lead Hits, but no Button Clicked Hit as you get in the video.
Ok, I added the new GA4 code to the external api spot on Squarespace AND I added the code injection into header, making sure to to unselect the "send a page view event" when I created the tag. Questions: 1. Can I still add that custom script to the Order Confirmation page in the code injection section without causing issues? You didn't say exactly what it does. 2. When I went to test the button click event, it did not show up under my G-XXXX tag, instead the button click event showed up under a GTM-XXX tab that was instantly created. After submitting a test on a contact form, it didn't look like it registered the event.
The button tracking will depend on how you're implementing it. If you're using GTM to track the button, then you will need to trigger a GA4 event tag (and use the GA4 configuration tag in the event tag).
I'm not 100% sure where you're up to with the implementation. If you're using the built-in integration from Squarespace and GTM using the 'Code Injection' option, then you don't need to add the custom script (to the 'Order Confirmation Page' option) for tracking ecommerce transactions. Then in terms of tracking the button click, I'm assuming you're referring to seeing the event fire in Tag Assistant (aka GTM preview mode). If you're seeing the button click show up under the GA4 measurement ID and not the GTM container ID, then it could be due to a number of reasons. The most likely is that the button is actually contained in a form and GA4 enhanced measurement is automatically tracking the form, plus, the GTM trigger isn't quite right for the button. So they're two things to check.
This is a GREAT video!! Thank you so much for sharing! I installed GA4 on my Squarespace e-commerce website. It does report the number of sales of each item but the revenue is missing! (it works perfectly for UA), Any idea what could cause this? Many thanks!!
I would start by checking that 'value' and 'currency' are being populated correctly in the data layer. You can check this by completing a test transaction using Tag Assistant.
I’m having the same exact issue right now. Did you ever get it to work? Using tag assistant, it looks as though the value and currency parameters are being populated correctly, but I’m still not receiving revenue data. I’m at a loss!
@@LovesData Thank you so much. I did a test transaction with Tag Assistant and confirm that both "value" and "currency" are being populated correctly. So I must admit I do not know what to do... Thank you again for your videos!!

Hi Eliot,
Thanks for your comment. I was looking for this option.
Thanks man 🙂.

I really love your tutorials! They're so simple, straightforward, and easy to follow. Thanks so much for this! :)
I've been putting this off for too long. Thanks for creating this!
Brilliant, thank you for precise, no no-nonsense presentation.
where did you find the advanced button in settings. Mine is compeltly missing

Did you try using build-in GTM forms listener? It may catch form submission on squarespace

@@1Catherine666 No I just tried again and it is not working. I contacted Squarespace support and they think there is a glitch with GA4....
I think this is out of date now right? I can't find "Advanced" under my Settings.
oic, it's called "Developer Tools" now.
Thaaaaanks!!!
Thanks!
Loved the workaround!
