- Vicious Pink Phenomena's Cccan't You See 7" did have a different working title, it was, Back In Your Arms Again.
How we made the vocal rhythm by Brian Moss -
Jose’s vocals were recorded direct to multi track as normal procedure (the verses and most of the chorus were not samples) We then decided to sample onto the Fairlight, different lines and words from Jose’s vocals, directly from the 2” multi track tape (this was an idea we came up with in the studio) Then we mapped them out onto the keyboard (Mapping = assigning samples to a key or keys across the keyboard) Then I could be play each vocal line or lyric individually, record them onto the Fairlights sequencer then it was recorded to the multi track.
1: “Can’t yer…Broke up.. wa wa wa…You went” (the “wa” was from want)
2: “Br br br br c..c..c..broke up you went” (Br from broke)
3:“Want you want you went”
4: “You you you you went want want want to be”
5: “You you you you you you br br br you went want want to be”
6: Cccan’t you see want you want you went”
From Cccan’t you See French/English 12” single and 7' single.
People had different thoughts on what was being sung, I remember someone saying they thought Jose was singing “Can’t yer F++k off you went” I had a laugh about that!
Apparently it was a sampling first, making a rhythm from vocal samples.
The song was recorded at Farmyard Studios in Buckinghamshire, England in September 1983, it was produced by Tony Mansfield.
Mike Wiand, our manager, later secured us a record contract with Parlophone Records. After signing the record deal we shortened our name to Vicious Pink. Cccan't You See was released in 7" and 12" vinyl formats in August 1984.
The B side of the 7" version is 8:15 To Nowhere, it was recorded at Eden Studios in London later in 1983, also produced by Tony Mansfield,
Record sleeve photography by Sheila Rock. Sheila created a warping effect by using our reflection from sheets of plastic reflective foil, (no Photo Shop back then)
Design - Shoot that Tiger.
Some of our music is now available to download in high quality Wav format here..

I am the proud owner of the 7inch vinyl version of this fantastic song, timeless
I have the maxi 12” single
I always loved the "V" and the "I". So obvious....even as a 15 year old at the time!
It’s 2023 and I’m obsessed with this song! 😂🎉❤
Me too
I've been looking for this song for 30 years! Whoever's in charge of the algorithms today has my thanks 😊. 😊.
Where Tony Mansfield is, there is a masterpiece. The more experienced will recognize also in this song the unmistakable "magic touch" of him. Even today "Cccan't You See" by Vicious Pink conquers everyone!
When between the 80's and the 90's I worked as dee jay in some radios in my city, I systematically broadcast this song, always announcing it with extreme enthusiasm. In addition, this synthpopish pearl is very well suited to be mixed in the dance clubs. It's a hymn to the most beautiful memories for us nostalgic of the legendary eighties...
Thank you! Tony is amazing, he is so talented and such fun to work with, a laugh a minute, never a dull moment. That really helps when you are recording, we believe it also comes across in the final recordings. Where were you DJ-ing?
@@viciouspinkmusic - Wow, I'm honored for your answer! I worked in radio stations in Lombardia (Italy) always offering alternative synthpop / new wave music like yours. It was not easy initially to find feedback from the listeners, because the Italian general musical culture, yesterday as today, was mainly focused on the mainstream, but over the years I managed to make many people aware of 80's projects produced by Tony Mansfield, like you Vicious Pink, but also Search Party, Eight Point Five, After The Fire and others, including the lesser known songs of Naked Eyes, when the other radios always offered the usual two hits "Voices In My Head" and "Always Something There to Remind Me ". I believe, indeed, I am 100% sure, that no other dee jay in my region (and perhaps my entire country) has ever systematically broadcast the tracklists of the three New Musik albums like me (..if only Tony knew !!...) , the band I ever loved madly since 1978. Although my musical knowledge has progressed over the years ( today I mainly listen to futurepop ) I still remember those golden 80's, where the music reflected the carefree emotions of that era. Ah! I remember also that once a week I made a program called "Powerage", which consisted of an hour of mixed dance electronic music. Among my best works was the 12" version of "Cccan't You See" mixed with the 12" "Change Your Mind" by Sharpe & Numan...a combination that literally sends the listeners into ecstasy!...
@@MIMNED We like to reply to people personally. Thanks for the feedback, as you say it's not always easy to get it, for example we had chart success in the US and other countries and we didn't know till years later! Did you know we have a new double album called 'West View' ? out on vinyl and downloads, there are links on our channel. Have a great weekend!
@@viciouspinkmusic - Thanks to you for the kindness and empathy you show to your fans! It is really cool. I will not miss your double release which, I am sure, will be a masterpiece!!! I embrace you strong.
Heard this playing at a coffee shop earlier and am now so glad I asked the barista for the name of this song. This honestly might be the best 80's synth pop tune I've ever heard.
Italo disco... not Synth pop
I don't think so... it's French!!!@@ezequielbalam9961

I’m 22 and my gay bestie showed me this on the way to the bar and I absolutely love this song
Very forward tune gr8 80s rule os 4 eva😊😊
It is occasionally chilling how much very fine work just doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It really is talent + lottery.
True! Chris Squire the bass player from Yes, said this to us when we told him we had started Vicious Pink Phenomena, "The cream always rises to the surface never give up" We never forgot his wise words! Chris Squire RIP love beyond forever X
i love this song so much , brings back nothing but good memories 🎈
Like so many of you, I think this song fucking Rocks. Beautiful!
Huge hit...master dance piece..hope nowadays music were like that..
I heard this song first way back in the 80s, I was in my early 20s. I bought the import vinyl LP, wow.
i love listening to this song while i'm messing around with 1980s and 1990s software
Sounds fresh now...
Love this song ❤ from vicious pink ❤
And jetaime was good as well
i've been looking for the song for ages. found that on a DJ Playlist. memories memories memories omg
Super excited to find the 7" mix on here. It goes to show that this is a very well-thought-out pop song, with some crafty surprises. The lyric, Broke Up, pounces in a wild, unexpected way. By giving us the 7' version, we get to hear the song in a condensed format. And it is good. I am so happy that you are pushing your work. Kinga
Thank you! The 7" version was also a different recording to the 12" version, but recorded over 2 days at Farmyard Studio in Berkshire in 1983. VP. X
@@viciouspinkmusic Oh... wow... that is wild. I have always assumed that you likely created extended versions and then if needed, edited to the 7". Kinga
Good dance.
Hammer 😍 😎
The only vinyl that I saved out of hundreds. The cover just sums up the whole attitude and sounds of the 80s to me.
When I first went to Starck Club in Dallas, 8:15 to Nowhere was playing. I was astounded at how otherworldly it sounded and I wanted it immediately. Found out title from DJ and bought it that week at my local record shop. 😎
Thanks so much! We love to hear these stories! We like to do otherworldly tunes too, check out Organiclon Sentient Ship on our channel, there is another mix coming soon. VP X
The best from "across the pond"
I have it in my Vinyl collection, titled "Best of the 80s"
Still jams and makes me feel young(er)!💛❤
Great! Best wishes back, VPX.
@@viciouspinkmusic 💛
The 7” is the best version by a mile
One of my favourite ever...thanks 👍
Love this Song ! Thanks for uploading !
I love the French version of this song
🙌
This should have been a huge hit in 1984/85 but sadly it wasn't. Shame really as the singer was beautiful with a beautiful voice and the production by Tony Mansfield was pure class. A great song though all the same
They also had a good song called Fetish.
Barraca Valencia 🎠🎪🎶🚨♥️🎊📢💃🤠
What was the b-side to the 7 inch , anybody know? I gave my copy away
8:15 To Nowhere.
💥~💎~💓
Wasn’t there another version with wolves howling on it?
That was Spooky, there are a lot of different remixes though, most are on our Vicious Pink Expanded Edition CD on Cherry Red Records, Spooky is on there too.
