Red Sox fan from Massachusetts here. I was 11 when the Reds moved to Riverfront, and didn't know Crosley Field one bit back then. Recently started watching videos of Comiskey Park and Tiger Stadium. Crosley Field sure had its own unique look and character, squeezed into the old neighborhood. If I had a choice to see a Reds game at Crosley or Great American Ball Park, I'd pick Crosley. The iron columns, asymmetrical lines, the triangle shaped bleachers in right field, and the low walls in the outfield that let the neighborhood into the park, and the rugged looking light towers... I'll bet it was a great place to watch a game. People might wish their old park were still standing like Fenway is still standing, but the Sox ownership has transformed Fenway so much over the past 20 years. They built a monstrosity up on the roof behind home plate and the 'monster seats' are so contrived. The old net with the iron supports was better, in my opinion. Too many signs....everywhere! Fenway may still be standing, but the more they tinker with it, the more they bury the old charm....in my humble opinion.

Sure have the up most respect for the Cincinnati Red baseball organization....As a life time Atlanta Brave fan, Henry Aaron's 3000 hit in the ole ball park, and the first to homerun in new Riverfront stadium, and the best in baseball....The {Big Red Machine}....enjoyed for years, listening to Reds games on radio WLW Marty & Joe... .....great pick up at night from Cincinnati all the way down to the Rocket city 🚀 Huntsville, AL thank you for this wonderful footage....BCM'
my wife is from Cincinnati, we both live in Chicago. and crosley was a beautiful ball park. whata shame of it is. that with a little foresight. it could be a gem. as much as Wrigley is to Chicago or Fenway. I could say the same thing about old comiskey. such a lose for history. if we could only time travel. great video .what song did you use in the vid curios.thank you
The first game I ever saw live was at Crosley Field. I went with a YMCA group and sat out in the right field sun deck. August 16, 1969. I saw Lee May hit a home run on to I-75 over the left field screen.
You must miss remember as that would have been impossible, centerfield but not left. Watch the video again to see what I mean. My understanding is Jimmy Winn with Astros is the only one to hit one on the freeway, but even that is hard to believe with a couple of bounces but on the fly, I don't know about that.
I didn't know that much about Crosley field since I am not from the area, but I have been down I75 a gazillion timers as a trucker and didn't know I was driving by what was a major league ball park once upon a time
Shame it's gone 😞. Even more than Wrigley Field or Fenway Park, I would have made a prodigious effort to attend a game at Crosley. Great historical landmark. First MLB night game, 1933 ⚾💡
Old Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia didn't have parking lots either. It was in a rough part of the city when my dad took me to games there in the 1960's. We'd park on the street, and kids would be there saying, "I'll watch your car, Mister." My dad would give the kid a little money and tell him he'd give him more if he was there after the game, but he never was. I live in Chicago now, but I took my sons to some games during the last season at Tiger Stadium in 1999. I know what you mean about the parking there, but it was a great place to see a ballgame.
How far is the site from GABP? I’m going to Cincy on the 19th for the Reds vs Astros game but I’m going to be arriving early and I’d love to go visit this site. Is it accessible using public transportation from GABP? I’m arriving in CVG and taking the TANK 2X bus to Cincy. Is there another bus that can quickly get me to Crosley’s site?
Progress isn't always progress..taking away the neighborhood for a highway destroyed everything. Wrigley never had a road built nearby and the neighborhood got better and richer . And all because a ballpark was there..everyone wanted to be near it and make money commercially
It’s too bad that both Riverfront and Three Rivers were not ready until 1971 then the 70 NLCS could have been played in Forbes Field and Crosley . Instead of those 2 cookie cutter stadiums . Would have been a great way to close both stadiums
Was in what became a bad neighborhood, no place to park your car if your attending a game at Crosley, etc.....still pretty dumpy looking industrial area.
lots of ballparks were built because the older ones like Crosley had no parking. Worse yet is all the concrete donuts that replaced these great ballparks. Hey you could park but what crappy places to watch baseball.
A lot of Cincinnati looks crummy but I love the Reds still the same. I do like their current stadium though. Not necessarily the design but the location.
@Mar Blox I am from Chicago as well and have been to Wrigley many times. its awesome but such a pain to get too. But I am glad the cubs never built a concrete donut in Schaumburg or near O'hare just for parking and suburban fans. I wish teams would take these same stances today while trying to appeal to the middle aged single hipster or "yuppie", but those days are over. I do love the new parks though and Cincinnati's is real nice along with PNC.

Tiger Stadium also had no parking lot
You either: a) Parked in nearby flat lots or b) Parked in someone's back yard or or c) Parked on side streets.

Went to both parks in 1970. I remember as a nine yo kid the Burger Brewing Co.beyond the right field fence. Could I be mistaken?
