The sock of the day is the only reason why I watch the streams. We consider it bad luck if we miss the sock of the day. If the sock is missed or no new stream of the day, I stay home in bed to be safe.
It was only a couple of weeks ago when we were there in Sitka! We really enjoyed having a tour here very similar to yours… It was a private tour and we got to see some humpback whale action, a fishery, the volcano, and several eagles, as well as sea lions. We wanted to go see the puffins however it was way too foggy for that. We stopped at the VERY SAME Filipino restaurant for Mocha bubble tea! How cool! Did you ever go to the other side where there are lots of totem poles and you can walk to the raptor center? We enjoyed walking around the totem and the old forest, however the raptor center did not have many birds out due to the avian flu, sadly. It was wonderful to see the cathedral because we only got to see the outside of it when we were there. That seafood food truck was supposed to be a really good place to get fresh fish… We were recommended to eat there by a local. How fun to see you in this town after we had just been there!
I retired from over 23 years at DELTA AIRLINES ✈️✈️. I worked for years at the travel agent assist desk. I'm sure I've spoke and assisted Dee at one point. Internet took over most bookings so I moved over to the Social Media desk. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing
Next time you go take some of those little ducks or paint rocks with your channel name and hide them oh pathways or in the rocks. Can do that at all the places you go.
Radiance of the Seas was my first cruise about 20 years ago. I loved that ship....Im sure its be refurbished over the years. I hope its still wonderful.
So, I didn't realize until this Radiance vlog that Dee is a TA. Do you freelance or work for a company? I'm looking into it as a "retirement" job. Looking for recommendations/info...
Freelance, but supported by a host agency. The best first step is typically researching host agencies and seeing if that approach feels correct for what you’re after!! :D
The volcano in Sitka is Mount Edgecumbe and the site of the best practical joke ever hatched: "In 1974 a joker chose Edgecumbe for his April Fool’s day trick. The name of Porky Bickar will always stay as one of the biggest pranksters in the history of Alaska. He tossed hundreds of automobile tires in the crater and burned them which produced big column of smoke. The locals believed that the volcano was erupting in front of their eyes and filled the streets expecting it to blow any moment. Local authorities were warned and the Coast Guard sent out a helicopter to investigate. Imagine the pilot’s surprise when he approached the cone of the volcano and saw a huge burning pile of tires as well as the words ‘APRIL FOOL’ spray-painted in huge black letters next to them."
Your last Alaskan Series inspired me to book something for this years season, hoping to get out there this summer, its in the works. Love your Alaska vlogs :)
Totally different menus. Solarium Bistro typically has a Mediterranean style menu that seems to be the same every night. The Windjammer is a variety of buffet fare that changes daily.
🤔 at the 11:50 mark, Jaybird you made a statement about doing all the Sitka stuff you could because you do not have Sitka on any other sailings. Well you will be glad to know on the July 5th sailing on the Splendor, we stop in Sitka on day #4. Well… unless you know something we don’t?
I’m from Georgia where gravy and biscuit is a breakfast staple. I couldn’t believe my first cruise didn’t have “normal” breakfast food on it. (No biscuits and no gravy) 😦😂 So I have to ask, how was it?
I actually sailed the Bliss the week after this. It's quite nice. I'm glad I wasn't on that sailing though. They had a bad Noro outbreak. We had delayed embarkation while they disinfected the ship. It all turned out well for us. The extra cleaning measures all week kept us all healthy. I already want to go back to Alaska to see what I missed. I hope you zip lined in Icy Strait. That was terrifyingly fun! ;)
Very cool. Was this the whale watching trip I asked you about and you said you saw 1 whale? One tip for people if there's more than 1 ship in port, get to the shuttles earlier than you think. We stood in line for quite awhile (Dee & Jay were right in front of us lol, not stalking them or anything 😉). I had some knee and ankle issues so it made for a quite uncomfortable wait 😢 I kinda wish I had walked around more, but my legs were not cooperative
Been a while since I was in Sitka but remember it well. Had fish n chips from that white van and they were great. Was supposed to be on that very cruise with you guys but cancelled due to Omicron causing chaos and went to Utah instead
Such beautiful scenery! And holy cow it hasn't rained yet!! Nice whale spotting!! Loved Jays summary of the day: Well, we sat on a ship...LOL Loving the series! One day soon we hope to see that area ourselves in person!
I've never been able to correct the biscuits on Royal whilst writing countless letters. They add sugar to the batter! Isch, gravy does not go with sweet biscuits and this southern girl oughta know. They're more like scones, add some butter and berries and they are fine, but milk gravy...ugh ugh!

The way that you two interact is so cute. It makes the vlogs so fun to watch!
Glad you had a good time in my town!

Enjoyed the video of Sitka and whale watching

You both make my day with your great videos.
Sitka is a beautiful little town. Loved it. Jay’s dinner in the buffet looked delicious. Thanks for sharing.😎
Great video👏🏻 never cruised but live in sitka:)) Twinislandssitka
That totem park on the SE portion of town was one of my favorite spots. You can walk to it. Definitely worth checking out.
The cathedral is beautiful!

Postcard perfect photos 😍😎
👏 yay for the Filipino food! 😁
What is the difference between dinner in the Windjammer and in the solarium ?
Totally different menus. Solarium Bistro typically has a Mediterranean style menu that seems to be the same every night. The Windjammer is a variety of buffet fare that changes daily.

True! When we booked that Splendor sailing, we still had Skagway on the agenda and didn’t realize that it changed to Sitka until after!! :P
@@parodeejay yes we are still sore about not going to Skagway.
awesome whale call
what is the best month(s) to plan for an alaskan cruise? tia
We'd vote May for the best price, but August for the most active wildlife!! :D
@@parodeejay noted*. Thanks 🙏🏻

Amazing photos Dee. AK is my favorite cruise itinerary. But I may be biased because I was born in Anchorage.
We are going on Radiance in Sept for Vancouver to Hawaii. We were in Alaska sane time as you on Ovation. Great weather.
At 14:10, they show a menu that has a $16 cheeseburger. Wow. I think that would make me go back to the ship for lunch.

Such beautiful scenery and weather. Weare going in August.
The food does not look as good as other ships is it because older ship ?
One of the BEST boat captains ...
At 31:40 I see Jay has a side of hummus. A homicide.
I was going to say that it was a penguin.
Dee your photos are beautiful!
You guys are so cute together 💕
