The difference, between the real and the imagined , between the real Ann Dowd and the character Aunt Lydia, could not be more extreme. What an actress !! If ever an award was deserved it's this one !!
yeah...I still remember when I saw her first time, my boyfriend went to sleep and he put on a "handmaids tale" season 2... I was in shock, I am history student and Aunt Lydias character was exactly like something out of Nazi concentration camp ...how disturbing , she is an amazing actress indeed
How a woman so shy, calm and incredibly kind can play the complete opposite with such a level of professionalism is beyond me. She 100000% deserved this Emmy!!!
The thing with Aunt Lydia isn’t that she’s just straight evil. She’s heavily misguided and indoctrinated that she thought what she’s doing is right, yet you can see that she treats the handmade as her own creation. She definitely deserves this award
It's incredible because she seems like such an angelic woman but she manages to embody such a tormented , hellish and interesting villain. This is talent honestly.
Watching the 4th season of Handmaid's Tale, and Ann Dowd's performance just keeps astonishing me, and the thought that I need check if she has yet been awarded an Emmy suddenly struck me. So glad to find out she already won one years ago in acknowledgment of her fantastic portrayal of Aunt Lydia! And seeing who she was up against, I'm frankly amazed (I mean whoa, she won while up against Thandie Newton's performance as Maeve in Westworld? Daaamn!). Well-earned!
I just completed the 4th season. Her performance in both season 3 and 4 was so good. I just had to look her up because i thought she deserved an award for her performance in season 3 and 4.
Actress like her is what motivates me to pursue Theater and Arts. Being able to be completely different person in front of screen requires top-tier level of professionalism
Going through the seasons now. Wish we would have seen Aunt Lydia's before life. It's amazing how sincere she is in her twisted beliefs, that I wonder who she was before to turn her that way.
Read the sequel to Handmaid's Tale, called Testaments. Ann Dowd Actually Even narrated her parts in the audiobook that was released. And, goodness, the surprise I had in the last few chapters was just awesome
@@The_Pony It was a nice hold-together during the (much longer than expected) wait for Season 4. I wasn't expecting to actually listen to the audiobook except for if I was driving or at work, but I ended up loving the audiobook even better than I would than just reading it. No better actress for Aunt Lydia. It's a little bit of a spoiler for her character before and after, but Atwood and Miller have agreed that they are going to keep the continuity from book to show.
The fact that one of her daughters is named Emily... Can you imagine how she must've felt during her acting in the show, being so cruel to Emily (Ofglen/Ofsteven) ?
I watched Ann on some one-on-one interview show and she recalled working in some movie with Andie McDowell, and Ann praised Andie for coming through despite having "no training at all"... and I thought, "Holy &^$%, she's Aunt Lydia!"
Great category, but do think that Winona Ryder should’ve gotten a nomination to for Stranger Things! Season 1 was by far her best performance on the show

Agree. I just Googled her just to read about her and thought: wauw is it really the same person? She is really talented
She is extraordinarily beautiful, indeed 😌
That’s exactly what I said!
yes!!
How a woman so shy, calm and incredibly kind can play the complete opposite with such a level of professionalism is beyond me. She 100000% deserved this Emmy!!!
I heard her say in an interview that she spent some time around nuns and that's where some of her inspiration came from
Very well said!!
P😊
The only similarity between Aunt Lydia and Ann Dowd is how they’re both really articulate. The way she speaks almost sounds like poetry.
I’ve always said , every word is beautifully spoken . She Enunciate’s her words perfectly.
@@anthonyhebisen She sounds like she's been to a finishing school
@@anthonyhebisen She took shorthand?
@@akrenwinkle i meant enunciate. Yay! Humiliation
Jesus, what a stacked category!
i couldn’t choose
Samira was thrilled for her...what a cast mate :)
Women supporting women, on screen and off screen
She seems so sweet omg, she definitely deserved that emmy with the way she portrays Aunt Lydia! That category was tough!
She looked absolutely stunned she won and Samira being overjoyed she won MAKES this a beautiful moment
I just wanted to give her a hug! I’m so happy for her.
She also KILLED it in The Leftovers. Seriously - AMAZING actress!
Good to know!
Watch "MASS"
The entire Leftovers cast should have won everything.
AWWWWWWWWW shes the cutest! She deserves this so much!!!!!
What an actress. Her role as Aunt Lydia is legendary
That has to be one of the most genuine and cutest speeches I've ever heard, and love the way she says "lovely". Amazing actress :)!
She should have won more than one Emmy. Just one Emmy for that performance is so unfair
She is so sweet my God!
How she can play Aunt Lydia is crazy.
I want to cry. She has accomplished so much after in her career. She is so talented. I don’t think she imagined this success happening to her.
She absolutely crushed this role. So well deserved.

Right? She played so many evil and devious characters yet she seem so wholesome in real life. What a treasure.
Between this and The Leftovers, she's easily one of the best actresses of our generation
This is so wholesome! She is so sweet, what an actress to be able to play such powerful roles.
1:14 - A great moment. She just can't believe they called her name.....
She is so talented, a great actress
You can tell what a talented actress she is just from this, she seems such a sweet, gentile woman, but plays an absolute monster so fucking well!!!
ann dowd is just the loveliest! i cannot believe she plays aunt lydia! wow! amazing. the entire cast of the handmaids tale is just pure talent.
I'm crying right now. 😭❤️

Remember Ann in the last episode of True Detective season 1?
The fact that one of her daughters is named Emily... Can you imagine how she must've felt during her acting in the show, being so cruel to Emily (Ofglen/Ofsteven) ?
Ann Dowd has great acting in The Handmaid's Tale: Season 1.
She was sooooo good in Hereditary also. Surprising performance of a satanist.
Uhuh, she was stellar in that
She deserves an Oscar!
Damnnnn the lineup was AMAZING that year!!
She is awesome
I love her so much. ❤️❤️❤️

That was a hard category. I loved them all
Beautiful sweet spirited woman
Also amazing in The Leftovers
2017 had the perfect lineup in all categories imo
Granny Goodness contender right here, once Warner decides to revive plans for the New Gods film.
I am so terrified of her! To the point that i cant bear seeing the real Ann Dowd in the real world.
EXCELLENT ACTRESS
Me encanta su sorpresa y es re merecido hizo y hace un maravilloso trabajo increible actriz
Late to the party,
Somebody knows the name of the song playing when she goes to the stage?
Great win for her, she is fantastic!
I remembered watching the show i know she would win an emmy.
She is in credible in this show. She is scary even, she seems so sweet in real life 😅
I watched Ann on some one-on-one interview show and she recalled working in some movie with Andie McDowell, and Ann praised Andie for coming through despite having "no training at all"... and I thought, "Holy &^$%, she's Aunt Lydia!"
Wait what a cool song choice after this season final of season 4.... 👏🏻
She is so wonderful! I live for Ann! She is such a screen presence!!
I just want to adopt her as my grandmother
Great category, but do think that Winona Ryder should’ve gotten a nomination to for Stranger Things! Season 1 was by far her best performance on the show
Sweet, Kind, Elegant and Educated, now that's what a DIVA means!
No, she is far too humble to be a diva.
@@Celisar1 a true diva IS humble
Aunt Lydia is amazing
Leslie Jones was like “Yes BITCH YOU DESERVE THIS STOP ACTING SHOCKED” just by her facial expressions
