Keep it up with the Beekeeping videos. I was looking into starting beekeeping myself using the horizontal hive in my backyard. Unfortunately my home got flooded this weekend from the Imelda storm we just had here in the Houston area so I will have to put that project on hold. I would love to keep seeing how well those horizontal hives do in Texas so please keep us updated.
So build a beekeeper shed. Makes sense, saves time and can be set where you wish. 3:4:5 shed if set up well should hold all you need. If you need more storage, get a couple of those slider cupboards so everything is compact and right there. I luv watching you and your bees. I wish i could keep bees as I absolutely luv fresh honey, but im so dangerously allergic to their sting it terrifies me.
Go ahead and share more of your Beekeeping, including all the hurtles you go through. A lot of content about beekeeping makes it seem so easy, that I got drawn to it very much. Love to see your content.
Keep it up! Sharing our experiences helps us all learn faster. With the benefit of your experience we can all learn twice as fast - about our successes and failures. Please keep sharing.
Great video Blake!! Brother, you aint kidding when you speak about physical & mental barriers obstructing your motivation! I can relate to that!! I don't know how you do it with all you got going on with your farm. And, I been following you since before the Golden Son Beekeeping videos. No doubt, you have done AMAZING and haven't stopped learning. To be honest, I thought you would have stopped beekeeping long ago, but nope. You still keepin' on and GROWING!! I LOVE IT. Appreciate all you do. As always, I enjoy watching all your videos. Your friend from southwest Florida, Tim ;) 🐝🐝🐝☮️☯️
Keep making this videos, I watch them all. Beekeeping helps veterans with PTSD and is one reason why I am going to start with two hives next year. I have learned a lot by watching your videos. My kids love your harvesting videos
I enjoy watching your bee videos. I have three top bar hives and will need to do splits on a couple next spring. My dad has some bees in his barn that he wants me to come get. I'm considering getting a long langstroth to put them in. I learn from watching other beekeepers. I've never used plastic frames but have seen where other bee keepers have problems with them. The bees don't really want to build on them and end up making wonky comb. I also have been neglecting my bees due to the heat and their bad attitude this time of the year. Good luck with your bees and keep making bee videos.
One thing that may help with some of the barriers you talked about in the beginning would be to build a shed near you apiary used just to sore your beekeeping supplies.
It's always nice to see your bee videos...and the way you inspect the frames...looking for various things brood..larvae..the Queen..invading beetles...Interesting!🐝🐝😊
I can totally relate to your predicament, the physical and mental hurdles need to be minimal to enjoy any hobby or anything in life really. Keep up the great bee videos 👍👍, I thoroughly enjoy them.
yes please make more videos on bees. loving the experimenting you are doing now with the long hives. im really interested to see how the bees do in them.
I've found that when bees build up around a plastic foundation (as around 24:00 shows), the foundation wasn't well coated with wax. It seems easier for the bees to build up off and around than it does to start from the foundation.
Good evening fellow Beek. I’m a fellow beekeeper as well in Texas. With our Texas heat you may want to add more ventilation to the bottom of your hive. I am going Long as well and have designed the perfect box taking bits of ideas from others along with adding things needed to build a good long box.
I really apriciate you sharing theses bee videos. I can never do it because of my vision loss. But wow I respect bees a lot more now. Thankyou from Ontario Canada
Maybe you need to build a carport outside of your laundry room door and keep all your bee stuff in there. With it against the house you can run electricity and water to it easier.
Yes there's much to do and barriers make it hard to get things done. So much to learn! I'd be afraid to show everybody my messy set up with my hive and the area it's in..I went today and the bees were just going crazy out there they were having so much fun buzzing The Hive and everything that I have around it which some sugar water and other plain water
You are in luck! That's going to be my focus for a little while. I do hope to bring back the gardening videos, but that won't happen until Spring most likely.
Brandy Teer, I just started here in Australia, set my first two swarm traps as its spring here and caught my first swarm within a week. You are going to get such a thrill when you catch your first bees, just make sure you have a position ready to go and move the trap there asap. All the best and may you see many queens.👍🐝
Have you considered building a shed to store your bee keeping equipment. You could place it close to the hive corral. I love watching your bee hive videos - they’re relaxing and informative. Thanks from Australia 🐨🐨🇦🇺
There is a guy calls himself Mr. Ed, keeps his bees at a monastery. He built a roof over his bees to give them shade ... said they did better in the shade. That being said build a pole barn for them with a little "Bee Shed" to put all your bee keeping stuff out there where you work with the bees. That the barriers will be gone, you can walk out to the bees and have everything out there waiting for you.
To keep smoker lit, get some of that charcoal that lites with a match. I light 2 pieces and after 10 minutes put at bottom of smoker than fill smoker with your fuel. I use pine needles and it burns for hours!
Nice job on the bee videos. I really enjoy your take on beekeeping. A question please...Why dont you clean off all the burr comb on the frames as you go?
I have built a couple of horizontal hives I put two 2 by 12 to make it double thick on the sides and the bottom in there 5 feet long giving a warning now don't try to pick it up by yourself, the primary use of this type of box is for raising brood for making new hives
I just subscribed to you based upon your opening request. Let's dialog. Im interested in bee keeping, it's something ive examined several years now. Just made contact with my local bee keeper association this month. Im not saying I'll do it yet, but I'm gathering information and ideas. My grandfather was a farmer so I understand nature and what it means to humanity. So if I start a bee hive and for some reason can't follow through I want to be in a position to pass along work started so I don't destroy a hive of bees needlessly.
hey, I like your videos. Indeed beekeeping can be done in many ways and people learn a lot from mistakes. I wish to start keeping bees from spring, planing on starting with 4 hives. I try to watch a few videos of people maintaining-inspecting and trying to learn from them. Still have so many questions about this or that to answer for myself. Why to choose horizontal or vertical. does the printed frames help the brood or just leave them build their own from scratch. Wood vs plastic depends on your box size and indeed plastic is not loved by bees. Keep up the videos, I will be watching :D. Cheers from Transylvania
My eventual plan for my bees is to have a long skinny shed with a long skinny concrete-floored verandah along the east side. Give the bees that extra shelter from both the cold winter sou'westerlies and the summer sun from the middle of the day onwards, and have all of my tools and spare parts right next to where I'm working. I just need a good spot close enough to the house to not be a great hike to get to it, but not so close the bees are hanging around the house and upsetting my somewhat phobic daughter.
Don't feel bad for not knowing all the answers, my friend. I've been doing this for years, And I still feel like I'm completely clueless sometimes. I'm getting too old to lift these boxes, so the long Langstroth hive is fascinating to me.
I love your videos and your journey of learning and teaching others. I would go with the horizontal boxes. Just wondering how often you need to remove honey to keep the hive efficiency..?
So..im a beekeeper here in Brazil, and i use to Raise stingless bees, which are natives ones and i also Raise african Sting bees ... im fond of your videos and Id appretiate to get in touch with you in order to exchange experiences on beekeeping ..thanks
I'm planning to build 2 longhouse hives this winter and hope to catch swarms this spring in east TX. Did you notice how Mr. Leo never wears bee protection, he's so brave.
Yeah more beekeeping . Smoker you may do this ,if not make sure dry fuel is lit from the bottom. I have gone through years of returning to a smoker which has gone out ahhhhhhhhhh this seems to have solved the problem simple solutions are the best.
I love beekeeping videos! I'd love to see more. You might think about reaching out to another youtuber who is struggling with beekeeping currently. Check out White House on the Hill - He's really struggling beekeeping wise.
Also...on your more defensive hive...you weren't smoking your bees at all...the smoke you were puffing was not even getting down to the bees and just blowing away. My mentor always used to call me out on it as well...it is easy to not pay attention to where your smoke is going and how close you are holding the smoker (burning bees instead of smoking them) to the hive and end up not properly smoking your bees. Pay closer to where your smoke is going...most of the time you are smoking the air...not the hive.
To me that hive isn't bursting with bees.. I'd have it in one box.. wax moth wouldn't entertain a busy hive.... Oops he goes on to make the right decision haha
Kind of odd watching your video. I have watched many video's in the last several months I probably watched about a good 15 to 20 videos in the past 6 months just about every day either regarding honey bee's or wasp removal. This is the first time watching, when you were going thru the first box the outside frame that was closest to the camera the few bees on the frame did not move one bit not at all the while time. It's the first time I have seen that kind of like they were sleeping or something. Is that normal? Just asking because as I said it's the first time I have seen bees not move at all for that long of a period. No judgement or anything just a watchers curious mind. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry to be a critic but my grandmother always told me: "Stop with the excuses". But I understand what you are getting at, sometimes it is just the way it is with work & family it just seems like it is an ongoing pull on you
Don’t be sorry, just keep your thoughts in your head in the future if you can’t think of something nice to say. And, by the way, there is a difference between making excuses for not doing things and explaining the reality for doing things. Blake was explaining his reality. Who are you to pass judgement? And even if he was making excuses, it is not actually your job to criticize anyone else’s life or behavior.
If you are finding the things you list as "barriers" a real downer to your enjoyment of beekeeping....I would suggest you get honest with yourself. If you truly enjoy beekeeping the things you listed should not and are not real barriers at all. I would wager a bet your list of barriers will get longer and longer until you just give up on it entirely. Do yourself a favor, get honest with yourself, make sure you are beekeeping for the right reasons and if not get out sooner than later....you would just be delaying the inevitable if you don't. If on the other hand you find that you do find true joy in beekeeping beyond the barriers...then create a plan to reduce or eliminate these barriers. Act on the plan one step at a time and find joy and fulfillment in overcoming these barriers and stop adding to the list. If you don't find true joy and fulfillment in things like beekeeping you are just denying yourself joy by wasting your time on unfruitful endeavors.
Perhaps it could be heard that way, but it also could be heard as a part of my story that might encourage someone else to plan their homestead and activity space better so they can be more productive.

Those top bar hives or horizontal hives look so much more convenient.
Looks like those horizontal hives are so much easier to work with
They are. Especially if you have a bad back or like me in a wheelchair. They are a game changer for me.
It's always nice to see your bee videos...and the way you inspect the frames...looking for various things brood..larvae..the Queen..invading beetles...Interesting!🐝🐝😊

Keeping it real in Texas.
What kind of towels are you using for hive beetles? They're awful this year.
Thank you!
I like the idea of this bee hive style, but can you use some sort of queen excluder?
Yes more about bees! I'm going to relocate my homestead just because there are regulation's against bee. Help me keep from making the same mistakes!!
Would love more bee videos, its how i found your channel
You are in luck! That's going to be my focus for a little while. I do hope to bring back the gardening videos, but that won't happen until Spring most likely.

Simon's FPV any type of lure or attractant used? Old comb is ideal
BESHY’S BEE’S Bee tee vee, yes I used a swarm lure, i think it's main ingredient is lemongrass oil, worked great.
Simon's FPV yeah I keep lemongrass oil in my car with cotton balls and cue tips, just a touch on a cue tip as a lure in between some old comb
I like that’s your real, not a phoney youtuber 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I subscribed
Keep up the good work Kentucky
Yes! More bee 🐝 stuff plz! I’m considering getting into it for my garden do I don’t need to hand pollinate my friit😊
Just starting beekeeping and I'm loving the thoughts of the Horizontal Beehives. Where do you recommend me finding the blueprint to make one?
Check out horizontalhive.com
Lots of free plans for a variety of hives.

Size and dimensions of your hive. I’d like to make my own. Unless you know where they are for sale?
I have built a couple of horizontal hives I put two 2 by 12 to make it double thick on the sides and the bottom in there 5 feet long giving a warning now don't try to pick it up by yourself, the primary use of this type of box is for raising brood for making new hives
Did you make it thicker for protection from the cold weather?

Maybe you should consider feeding Ultra Bee pollen substitute. Give your bees more protein to build up the brood.

do more bout bees, love the bees, dont have bees yet but i will one day,, thank ya fer the videos
I love your videos and your journey of learning and teaching others. I would go with the horizontal boxes. Just wondering how often you need to remove honey to keep the hive efficiency..?
More bee content please ❤️🐝
I like the fact you make mistakes just like everyone else. Some of other videos are so sanitized they are not real. So thank you very much.

The hive looks very weak. The wax moth in the proof. You should go to one box. Go move. Think about feeding too.
