I recommend a company called lastdrop, i have them on my yacht for my 85mm shafts and they work great assuming they are installed correctly. (i first did not). It doesnt have the bellow, it has a stainless steel ring on graphite that is pushed with springs. The hose fittings are on a solid cnc'd graphite block and are metal unlike this unit. Also, can a metal fitting be safely attached to the current system you have? I am also curious why the vessel needed to come out of the water. Could you have had parts handy for a wet quick fix ;)
It's videos like this that really set this channel apart from any others. I love that you show how you two are, for lack of a better term, "Real People" and not just fabricated personalities for the sake of view counts.
Thank you so much! I truly believe that staying real and authentic no matter how successful you are in life is the only way to be truly happy with yourself
@@NautiStyles I kept thinking "surely they're both divas once the camera turns off." Mine is a 24 foot cabin cruiser and I feel your pain. Your opening comment about work and sweat definitely applies. But I won't change anything! Going over this afternoon to patch a divet in my transom!
A long flexible wire with a magnet on the end is great from fishing those pesky screws and bolts/ nuts that love falling into the bottom of the boat or small places that fat fingers cannot get to. Great video. Thanks. Love you guys .
Love, love, love this video! You guys are amazing, so helpful seeing the how-to's and what you prefer so that the rest of us don't waste time getting what we don't need. I also really loved the Fendertex fenders, can't wait to get some of these for my boat!
What a nice way to look at the reality of owning a boat, thanks for the fender Tex idea, also a good t- shirt idea for you guys “ YOU BOAT YOU LEARN” then have a picture with Rico cussing out some boat project he is working on.
You don't need to remind me every 6 Months :) It's a keeper! I will steal it! The new fenders rox! This was a very nice surprise video allowing us to have a little glimpse in to your daily life. Doing the repairs sucks but when it's finished you can put your feet up on the fly bridge with an ice cold beer! I can't wait for Bering Part II
I recently bought a 3d printer and I am learning a lot about the different things you can print for plumbing, electrical wire mounting brackets, and a ton of other things. It's like having a parts store with patients though. It's not a quick process to print things. But, if you have a issue in the middle of nowhere. You can print the item you need. Very cool. 🍺✌️
Just a helpful hint. Use magnetic screwdriver; no droppy screws in bad places. Really enjoy how you guys show all aspects of boat life to this landlubber in Canada.
Wonderful video. Thank you for using the softer honk sound for swear words and not the dreaded loud, jarring beeeep. You guys are very funny together and a wonderful example of a happy married couple as well as happy live aboard boaters. I also enjoy your accents and small english mistakes. Very endearing. Fun video! A day in the life of... If you've never dealt with boats then you think you just get on and go. Thanks for the reality check! Have a good one!
That was a crazy good vid SQ1 & CM... Home port repairs are certainly less costly (understatement) than in the islands any island. People who think boat life is just fun and sun are out of their minds. It's a constant battle with the sea and Mother Nature. One of my greatest cost savings was to ceramic the hull and upper decks even my old fenders. It cut down on washdowns and general cleaning by about 80% year overall. It's just great to see the everyday of everyday living that we all experience no matter the size of one's MY. Oh and the great thing about ceramic coating is that your the shiniest MY in the marina or at anchor.... Have a great weekend!
I can't imagine how much maintenance costs would be without Ricos knowhow, and company contacts. To do most of the fitting yourself, must reduce a huge portion of the costs. Although still not a cheap lifestyle to live. I was a Deckside Seaman so have no clue about the Clanky Marine Engineer world. If I owned a yacht I'd be paying someone else. Then again as disabled, I still would even if I had knowhow. Rico is a walking encyclopedia of Clankyness. No wonder he likes nap time. Lol.
Watching this video brought back many memories that my late wife and I experienced as boat owners. Most non-boaters really don’t realize that boat ownership involves a lot of work to enjoy the good times. I believe that I have done most of the repairs that Rico performed in this episode. Shaft seals in particular have to be addressed right away. I loved completing needed work and having a cold beer afterwards. Thanks for the memories.
Just loved it! Even the Bad was good as someone else was doing it ;) It's winter here in Aus, so we're getting a Bayliner Ciera Cruiser we bought a few months ago serviced and ready for the new season when we'll be going up some Victorian coast (in Australia :). I'm not a Rico's stage, but would like to be with basic servicing... Here's a few suggestions for the future: 1. What is Rico's Toolkit? 2. What is a typical re-stock for you if you go on a trip (1-2w) - interested to know about things we'd probably not think of... How about a vid of you and Rico out for a few days or so? I'm only relatively recent here, so maybe you've already done some of these? Really like your channel and how you "lift the covers" on boat life so one day when we hopefully do it we'll have some nice tips to help us out.
Son unos genios!, verdaderamente los quiero. Porqué? Porque justamente son muy desestructorados y divertidos. Los seguiré viendo. Saludos para uds. y especialmente a Marco, un dulce! Y gran actor.🥰🥰🥰🥰✌
Great video. Did you replace the other shaft seal fitting while you were there? I would. I’d also put that part on a replacement schedule that would prevent most of the failures over time. Haulout is way more expensive than that plastic nipple. Just my 2cents.
Kudos to Rico! If I was ever filmed doing some of the projects around my house they would have to be a silent film! 😂. Quick question about the haul out, when they put slings under boat, are ther markings on boat or do they just center them on the hull. Not sure how heavy yours is, but probably could have serious damage if places in wrong locations and lifted out.
The yard workers are trained to do haul outs, they know where to place the straps, damage rarely occurs, maybe a little rub off of the bottom paint, 30 years of boating and never heard of a boat dropped.
That was one of your best videos. I have to say though, I'm a Health and safety instructor here in the UK 🇬🇧. My heart was in my mouth watching Rico under a slung boat with no supports, like what the hell are you doing. Seriously, great video, 👍
Never owning any type of boat before, yet having the desire to retire around 55 and living aboard a 40 foot trawler boat in next 3-5 years, these videos have been extremely helpful. Things we still don’t know, after buying a 10 year old used trawler, I have to wonder what’s involved day to day. What’a the deal with deck hands at boat slips, are they just part of the docking process? Are there costs involved with them? Are they there for tips only and if so, what’s a common tip to a deck hand when docking? I’ve heard mention of running on a budget, what’s a reasonable budget for operating a boat yearly? Can you expect to live on a boat full time for say $45,000 income yearly? Would love to see a VPOD on what newbies should expect in terms of ordinary costs of running and using a boat. Love what you guys have done so far. Thanks
Love seeing the two of you cruising around Marina Del Rey. I get up on a 38 foot Christ Craft Corinthian at what was then Agi Cal I probably spelled that wrong lol and worked on the Happy Man charter boat at 12 years old. Amazing memories. 😎👍🏼🤗
Suggestion for the fittings on the dripless seals. Next haul out, replace the plastic barbs with silicon bronze. You will need to periodically replace those as well but they last longer than plastic and are not affected by the heat in the engine bay. Most marine fittings are silicon bronze due to it's corrosion resistance, but try to find a USA made source. Not sure about supply source in California, but here in my area, we have many marine supplier sources.
an how much it would cost if you had to "call a guy" to fix toilet, sink, some electrical stuff? $300 for sink, $1500 for toilet, 200/h for electrical stuff?
That little plastic gizmo for the drip less shaft thing you can probably pick up a brass one at ACE Hardware or NAPA auto parts. Also if you throw in an in-line shutoff valve you can shut the water off if you ever have to replace it again and you won’t have to be hauled out.
I’ve always wanted to ask, I’m sure I’ve missed it, but where are you from originally? I lived in Germany for 13 years and I love listening to accents. Love your videos! My fave so far was w Tim Alls! What a yacht! Have I missed a Nordhavn 76? Thank you!
*WHEN A MAN IS FIXING SOMETHING ...* GIRLFRIEND: _"Do you need help with something?"_ ME: _"Nope! I'm perfectly capable of breaking shit and getting pissed off all on my own. But thanks."_
Hi from Australia 😀 A great refreshing video guys no scripting just raw emotions and speech 😀😂🤣. Great behind the scene look at boat life. Thanks for sharing. We live fulltime on the road and can relate to some of your issues 😀. Even the music in this video was great it really suited the vibe of the film.😀. Thanks for the midweek drop.
Hi Rico&Victoria! So happy u finally make some video on your boat. I love watching boat life, it makes me feel closer to u to watch your every day life, like I am a part of a crue. If u keep making those kind of videos u can ask people to become a patron.
Yes, the realities of boating life (if you own a boat the maintenance must be scheduled or it gets out of control) but it is a lifestyle, and your home so thanks for sharing.
Brilliant, honest view from the front line. You both show one essential for living together on a boat, you work together, you share and have a sense of humour. It's one thing having a fault in a house but at least you wont sink. Loved the work when carried out with the boat on the sling. Keep it up, be safe and bring more of your life to us. Thanks, we all love you both.
Thanks for sharing these “behind the scenes”. I’m not living on my boat, and sometimes I’m glad about that. I recently had an issue with an exploding battery bank, shortly followed by a failure of the bow thruster, and then issues with the fresh water system. Fortunately everything is solved again, but I can confirm, there is always a list of things to do. The good, the boat, and the ugly 😜. Thanks, and enjoy your day 💙
You guys are so positive . My first bought I boat 6 years ago and thought this is fun and low cost what could go wrong . You discover how many items are built cheap but always so much aggravation !! I upgraded 3 years ago and all is great 😀praying 🙏
Everyone shows the parties, the swimming, the docking, but this is the Real Real! Thank you!! I now have absolutely no desire to own anything bigger than a canoe. 😂😂🤙. But love you guys, you are both great. Keep it up, love the channel, top info-tainment!!
I know this is an older post, but one of my faves! Love the way you addressed the moisture prob with your mattress! Moisture is one of the biggest most insidious things you really have to keep on top of, or you WILL get mold and that's a pain in the butt! ❤ Love you guys!
Watching Rico work in the engine room makes me feel so much better about the hours I spent in my engine room except it wasn't Florida at 90° f. Sweat running over my eyes blinding me working in a sauna getting frustrated like recall what parts don't fit. So much fun would never want to miss it.
Thanks for sharing. That plastic barbed piece are really common and I would have replaced with a 316 stainless one. It looks like a 5/8" BSP 1/2" barb. I use these heaps. Love your walk throughs on all those fantastic yachts. Cant wait for my crypto to come through. I really liked the Bering 77 Expedition you shoed. What a piece of art. Thanks and keep it up.
I LOVE this video. So authentic! I would have been swearing long before the poop pump. Also, the outtakes, "This had to come from Florida." is absolutely accurate. Thank you both for showing real boating. ⚓
I like to put a light-colored towel under pipes and wiring sorts of things I'm working on. When I drop things it keeps them falling down into small nooks and crannies, keeps them from bouncing away, and makes them easy to see when you are looking for them.
Hope you have some laughs with us and about us! 😜😂 Let us know what else you would like to see in the "Realities of Yachlife" series
Love videos like this well not your yacht breaking but your day life !! Great video ! Thanks for sharing !!!!
Best video thus far :-)

This was very interesting. It is a good reality check for anyone romanticizing living on a boat. Just like a house, there’s always something to fix.
And unlike a house your floating home might sink if your not careful…
Fantastic video people. Nice to see you on you're own turf so to speak.

Thanks for watching

That is a pretty good question ,there is probly a max space between straps and distance from the bow and Stern

They make those in stainless steel , threaded ribbed hose connector.
I would use bronze instead. Bromze is anti-microbial, which is a real benefit when in salt water.

haha, thank you kindly
You Guys are so good at teaching and laughing at the same time. Kudos 👍🏼👏😂🏆
Yeay! So glad!
Yes, I'm deep clean (galley not my body) so this is most welcome 😋
How much I like this woman 😳😳😳😳 She has incredible charm 😎😎😎
We live in Maryland and absolutely LOVE your videos. Thank you for making our evenings less boring.
My wife and I are planning retirement on a yacht, so this is informative. We are about five years away.
Do your research, figure 30% more than you think. Also figure you have to hire all maintenance out after you're 70.
Thank you!
A Nordhavn would be a great addition to the channel.
It's really nice seeing a day in the life of you two, on your own boat! You are very capable seamen, thanx for sharing!
*WHEN A MAN IS FIXING SOMETHING ...*
GIRLFRIEND: _"Do you need help with something?"_
ME: _"Nope! I'm perfectly capable of breaking shit and getting pissed off all on my own. But thanks."_
😝😂😂😂😂🙌🏻
My wife is a plumber's daughter, so when I'm wrenching something, she actually can help. Never got to, though (((((-!
What a beautiful life you guys have ,
Thanks for sharing.
Up here in Canada the difference between a yacht and a super yacht is making our canoe longer. True story🙄. Great video😎👍🏹🇨🇦
I like to put a light-colored towel under pipes and wiring sorts of things I'm working on. When I drop things it keeps them falling down into small nooks and crannies, keeps them from bouncing away, and makes them easy to see when you are looking for them.
