      Agreed. There are a good handful of people that you could label as musical geniuses, but Stevie stands alone on top of all of them.
      He is like if you had a multi oscar winning blind cinematographer. There is no one who was clearly more put on this earth to make music than him.

    When I was studying music recording tech in uni, my professor gave us the master tracks from Superstitious to play around with. I was really impressed with how many layers of clavinet were in them...it's one of those tracks that doesn't sound incredibly complex when you listen to it and is very easy to groove to, but when you actually break it down you realize there are a TON of moving parts that make it what it is. Amazing song.

    • @diggingthegreats
      @diggingthegreats  Год назад +11

      YES! That's why it doesn't sound the same if you try to play it live. So many layers. And similar to the harpsichord where "louder" = "more notes" - the layers of clavinet fill up the whole thing

    • @thewaldfe9763
      @thewaldfe9763 Год назад +2

      Yes, and actually the clavinet, since it is so percussive, is also kind of a percussion instrument on this track.
      I think, at least half of the groove is coming from the layered clavinets rather than from (also great, but relatively straight) drums.

    • @thewaldfe9763
      @thewaldfe9763 Год назад +2

      Might be interesting to make a clavinet loop with the same rhythms as played by Stevie but adopt it to the appropriate keys before layering it over... Bach?

    Again, love your channel! Have you seen the breakdown of Stevie’s clav parts? For decades I thought he was just playing a whole bunch of notes with both hands. Turns out he laid down like 5 parts, each with a different rhythm and notes. But when blended together, no clutter and it all makes sense!
    His brain simply operates on a different frequency. His chord selections and progressions sometimes just blow my mind away. In fact, have you done a breakdown of “Overjoyed”? Chords go all over the place and still make sense!

    • @apexone5502

      I got a book that breaks down Stevie's playing and it was pointed out how a lot of musicians sees his music as somewhat difficult to play due to it being somewhat unorthodox. I can see that because there aren't many who can recreate that Stevie vibe, even with remaking his songs.
