  • Sighthill Cemetery, 201 Springburn Road, opened 1840
Now a haven for nature, a beautiful walk.
19 hectares (46 acres) on a dramatic hill site. Lodge and Gateway to Sighthill Cemetery, Springburn Road, 1839, John Stephen. Greek-detailed miniature temple acts as lodge at gateway to Cemetery; modern iron gates and railings. Martyr's Memorial, 1847 to John Baird and Andrew Hardie, the hanged leaders of the Radical uprising of 1820. Tall classical pedestal, relief sculpture on one face, grey sandstone, bellcast cap, draped urn. Many tombstones by John Mossman and others, commemorating the architect William Leiper, the shipbuilder Robert Curle and Bailie James Moir, a Parliamentary reformer. The Mitchell Library has his book collection and named the James Moir Hall in his memory. Gateway, Keppochhill Road, with the original decorative cast iron.

Its a absolutel disgrace that this cemetery has been left to get in this state . I know council's have to cut back but surely this isn't one of the things. Surely there is some way that this can get cleaned up & the head stone's that are starting to tilt can be fixed or even laid flat . Surely something can be sorted out . After all the people that is buried there paid for them to rest there (maybe a lot of money aswell) . The people in charge of this cemetery need to do something about this its a disgrace that nobody is careing about it

Lovely video. As you may know Im a sucker for exploring an old graveyard and this one has always been on my sights pardon the pun. I'll need to do some research into the area and some of the people that are buried here. It's really interesting doing the ground work.. Again pardon the pun lol Nice shots. Take care. 👍😁👍🥾🥾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My husband’s great great grandfather Alexander Calderwood is buried there. Is there a cemetery office that would know if there is a grave marker or location of his final resting place?

Thanks for posting. This gives a good indication of the character of the people of Scotland, or actually the lack of for letting this cemetery get in thus condition. They can't even mow the lawn. People here in America often find volunteers to clean up old stones and grounds.

Interesting comment, Thanks. I really don't think America is all good, with homicide, crime, violence, drugs, and the highest incarceration of people in prison in the world.

Typical American pointing the finger at graffiti on a wall across the street while their house is burning down behind them. We have free healthcare btw, do you? Commenting on the upkeep of a cemetery in the UK while popping pills LOL!

I wonder how many mass shootings have took place and how many homeless tents have been erected in America since you judged a full nation on overgrown grass
People in glass houses shouldn’t fire assault rifles…. You slagggggg🤪

Glasgow city council parks department has had it's funding cut year in years out for years now they simply do not have the man power to cut all the grass all over the city anymore funny if you travel outside the city to say maybe Rutherglen the graveyards spotless and well maintained
