Yes, that. And also Kaiju designs are done by studio Khara, they are the studio behind the Evangelion movies, which is pretty big. They are the ones that translated the kaiju designs from the manga to the anime.
There's a lot of comedy in this series, but it definitely gets more serious as it goes. I love Kaiju no 8. I've been waiting for this anime for a long time, production IG seems to be going all in and that makes me happy.

There's a lot more to recommend but starting off with some of the all time greats is a good way to get into anime. Dragon Ball too. Just make sure to skip the filler lol.

Really great show, and awesome reaction, had me rolling as usual. A good story knows when to be lighthearted and serious in equal measure, demo I think you'll see that Kafka's personality plays a big part in the comedy. He's an easy going guy who likes cheering up others. Still has his own doubts and fears but it's his ties to ppl around him that make him move forward. The series does get more serious but that makes the small moments of comedy better imo.
As someone who doesn't know anything about this show, I don't think you can judge the seriousness off of the first episode. JJK has plenty of goofy unserious stuff in episode 1

Don't have too high expectations nick. It's a great show with good action. If they keep up with this level of animation, it's gonna be enjoyable. I read the manga and it's a Solid 7.5/10 for me
kaiju no 8 manga was for me 10/10 and in anime the only thing that disappointed me was characters drawing style and not because it is bad its because in manga it was so good everything else in anime is good no complaints

Funny that you mentioned old style animation when it's 100% CG but 2D. That's what I love about this anime. So many do have 2D characters but background and monsters are 3D which makes them look off. 8/10 for me. I like the homourous side
Alright so to tell you the truth things get more serious later on I would say after like 4 or 5 more episodes but yeah at first it will be really light humor and jokes

Studio Khara is working on this, and they did the Evangelion rebuild. Which is probably why it has the old feel Nick was talking about.
