      Yup! We just saw a working prototype being installed and tested on @Brettb35 bike stay tuned for more info. It's got Chromoly lower stanchion tubes like an MX bike (strong and zero stiction) and beefed up everywhere way beyond a DH MTB fork to handle a Surron or Talaria. Pretty excited about it!

      Just remember the Surron frame was not designed for full scale motocross, you may find limitations and break the frame, wheel hubs, suspension components, or other parts. Coming up short on a jump for example could easily break things. For true MX racing we're looking forward to the Stark Varg.

    Super video guys. Would you ever do the same treatment to a Talaria Sting? I've built mine up with a lot of similar parts and it's getting close to what you've done. With all the new e-motos coming out these days does this even make sense anymore? I'm not mad that I spent $15K on my Sting R even if a newer faster model comes out tomorrow, but it is an interesting discussion. It's a lot like computers - as soon as you build one there is a newer processor, better graphics and so on ... who would have guessed electric bikes would be evolving so quickly!

      Good news, we just added an MX4 to our fleet, expect to see more content about it soon. Great question, if it's your passion and you have the $ to enjoy it by all means many of us do. But you bring up a great point to consider, in 2024 there is a flood of new bikes coming many of them similar to Ultra Bee and if your goals is bigger/strong/faster you would probably save money on an Ultra Bee or future bike platform.

    Hi Brian. Do you need to modify the fork for a 21” wheel? Doesn't rub on full compression?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      With the setup described in the video and a Starcross5 tire I do contact the fender on big hits. There is barely enough clearance for the tire. Ideally you should have a suspension shop retune the fork and remove 1" travel from it. BUT, in all honesty the new EXT Ferro made the KTM forks irrelevant, save your time and money and buy the EXT Ferro instead it's a better choice for the Light Bee. This fork is way overkill for such a small bike. chargedcycleworks.com/products/ext-ferro-fork-for-surron-talaria

    Great vid. You popped the breaker. Tech question: w/qs8 I thought we could bypass (remove) the breaker? Thought I heard that y’all were qs8 but still poppin the breaker.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад

      We also heard this same advice so we reached out to our partners Chi Batteries and KO and EBMX to validate this advice. What we learned is that the breaker is primarily there for a surge of power related to plugging/unplugging the battery with the OEM connector which is not a sparkless connector. If you replace the battery connector with a sparkless designed one like the QS8 you can in fact remove the breaker. The controller and Battery BMS have safeguards in them to prevent over-current events and shut down if something happens. If you remove the breaker we do recommend unplugging your battery when the bike is not in use. If you have bypassed your battery BMS this is not recommended because you have removed one of the safeguards during the bypass procedure, do not remove the breaker if you've done this.

    Yeah guys , you did a great job of modding the Surron, but it seems to me that the new Ultra Bee is the best answer for actual racing. But then again, maybe there are some technical applications that you could race the Light Bee , and do ok.Otherwise it is perhaps best to modd the Light Bee for no more than hard trail riding going forward. For what I use my Light Bee for, I couldn't ask for more. Luv it! And thanks for all of the time and effort you have put into Surron development.

    I'm glad you shared these info with us as I'm currently building that ktm 85 setup and for a few days I was trying to figure out how 21" wheel would be installed. One way I can think of for now is finding ktm freeride wheel which shares same hub as ktm 85 but is harder to find given lesser popularity of this bike.
    Looking at ktm original parts it is sold as black, but from SM-PRO they seem to provide a freeride version with color customization. Have you considered that option and if yes would be curious to know why you didn't go for it?
    You mentioned the EXT fork as a "cheaper" option:
    - I presume your current cost estimates are based on buying new ktm parts only ? but going to second hand market I think it can be much cheaper option in that case
    - also If you switch to KTM frontend, you get 3 upgrades in one: fork, wheel and brakes. So this should also be included in EXT option costs.
    Currently trying to find whole brake system fitting 2022 KTM 85 air fork. It seems it's only compatible after 2021 which unfortunately is considerably reducing availability in second hand sales.
    I'm hoping all upgrades I make for my current Talaria, I'll be able to backport when getting Ultra Bee later (including that 21" wheel) :)

    Is it possible to use like a dirt bike 125 front wheel something like a 19 inch. Everyone is selling sur Ron wheels at a high price also there's not much parts or sur Ron's from my area but dirt bikes are big from here parts are very common.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад

      The reason surron wheel prices are so much higher is because we have to custom manufacture parts including hubs and spokes. In manufacturing the more volume you produce the less expensive it is to make each part. At the moment we cannot make parts at the high volumes like dirt bike parts to bring the prices down to being equal.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      The Luna wheels are not compatible with the Surron in this video. There is a reason they are that cheap, you get what you pay for. Made in China and $10 Chinese tires on them. Our wheels are much higher quality and come with name brand motocross tires: Bridgestone, Dunlop, Mitas, etc. Our front hub is also 7075 aluminum because 6065 is not strong enough for a Surron, remember the front hub is a mountain bike hub it was never designed for a bike this heavy. Luna is being lazy with this wheel option and sourcing 100% of it from China an the cheap. Will probably be OK for some people but fast riders should avoid them.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      Most of the forks that come on the Surron (DNM, KKE, etc) are just under 10 lbs, the KTM air fork is 2x that about 18-19lbs, this including triples. But the KTM brakes are also significantly heavier than MTB brakes so that also adds additional weight. Total with brakes is 22.5 lbs.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      We agree and we specifically talked about this in the video, it's no longer a surron, it's something more serious closer to an MX bike. And another problem with a build like this is that it makes you want to ride at speeds the frame was not intended for. We could go ride this bike on a full sized MX track and jump most of the jumps, but the problem is because the frame was not intended for that eventually you are going to break something and it could lead to serious injury. We definitely do not recommend trying to race a surron at full sized MX speeds and jumps...certain to find the weak points if you do.

    So guys, i really wanba kbkw whats the range with this setup now😂

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      It depends....range has far too many variables. Speed especially kills batteries. Terrain like hill climbs also has a large impact. The only real way to do a range comparison is to take multiple bikes with different configurations and each rider must ride the exact same speed which we've done in past videos. Then we can compare different setups under the same conditions...but there is still variance with rider weight and riding styles. Range tests are not easy to do objectively.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  Год назад +1

      @@simonasimak9523 the best way to estimate is take your current setup and riding right now and let's say you are riding on average 20 miles with a stock battery, and you purchase a battery with 2x the capacity (60v 32ah to 60v 70ah) then you just doubled your range to 40 miles. But, here is the problem a lot of people ignore. When you upgrade the power on your bike you will ALWAYS ride faster and use more energy and your range is never as long as you think it's going to be. For example we went from 15 miles on stock(ish) bikes to about 20 miles (sometimes less) with BAC8000 and about 12kw tunes and a much larger 53ah battery. Our range only went up about 25% but we are having 100x more fun at higher speeds.

We have raced at Glen Helen and also put a few sandy off-road hours on it since this vid. The biggest struggle is dialing in the best tune for each condition, for example at glen helen we struggled to get the right power delivery, it was too soft out of corners, and too violent in a high speed corner.
