Heavenly father, in agreement with this message according to 1 corinthians 8 I ask you to keep me far from people who want to make me stumble and fall, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah! Thank you almigthy God! Annelies Bakker, the Netherlands.
Greetings 🫖☕ good morning 🌄🙏 Thank you for this Bible study discussion God is love and our works should be about love .....Some movies give a reality check to what happens in real life ....Bible studies give examples of life also and are great discussions , cheers to love 🍷🙏
It is crazy how we all have different areas that are a struggle for ourselves.... We know what they are, but many others around us may have issues that we don't know about. It is important for us to be aware of our surroundings and try to get and understanding of our brothers/sisters without being too nosey so that we can avoid those types of situations.
I think today I may have commited the modern day equivalent of what this message is preaching. Praying that moving forward, from now on, I may better represent the community and the living Lord Jesus Christ as I hang out with friends and interact with society.
Beautiful point: My choices impact other people. I love the alcohol/movie analogy. This is a good word. Good morning and thanks for your work Branch Together.
Peace of the lord to all, this morning when reading this passage I couldn't fully understand it, then I had this idea of searching on youtube whom may have posted preaching on this subject,, Really edification, Thanks for the amazing work.
Today I was reading this very chapter and wanted to search RUclips to get a brtye funded standing as I referred diff versions to try and understand and I found this video just like u did one year ago. 😊🕊️
thanks for that, you went into watching R rated films. Just yesterday I had to quit watching a movie because it got extremely R rated. I’m no saint none of us Our should I say we are not perfect, but self control is good to practice. I thank God and Jesus Christ for the strength he gives me (us) in all are ways.
John 14:29 *And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.* John 14:30 *Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.*
Could this chapter also compared to how in the modern day we watch shows and eat of fantasy and movie franchises? And since we know that there is only one God and that all this is fake we can invest ourselves in these sources of media, but not so much so that we become obsessed ourselves and lead our brothers and sisters who like the fantasy too away from the Lord?
There are some fantasy series that help us understand God by painting pictures of good an evil (e.g. Chronicles of Narnia) but certainly others that may be more of a stretch to see value in and some that may be obviously a poor choice to watch. So yes, if you are watching something and your activity encourages another to watch something harmful for them....yes, you should reconsider. This is difficult because this can be a rather gray are. Just pray daily and ask God to give you wisdom.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (January 31, Epiphany 4), 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 was our New Testament Lesson (or Epistle) of the Day. Corinth: the New York City/Las Vegas of the Bible. Agree or disagree? Feel free to reply.
So many things we idolize unconsciously- just to name a few 👉🏻👉🏽👉🏿 money- movies/social media - appearance - brand names and of course Food. When seek our God First above everything else we will be more balanced in ourselves and for others. We set the example 👆 👆🏽👆🏿 Not easy to do but when you find yourself getting off track ask W. What W. Would J. Jesus D. DO ?
Regarding things that a Christian has liberty to chose, like whether they drink alcohol, it's a matter of wisdom and consideration for making another stumble. Many movies would fall in that category. Other things, like a pornographic film, or stealing, will always be wrong whether it immediately impacts another or not. Make sense?
Brother, great video! I have a question though, Im a man wih long hair, recently I have not been allowed to serve in certain ways because of that in church; some people tell me to cut my hair because of "the weak in faith" but i dont see how having long hair would lead someone into sin. Thanks
Sorry to hear this. It seems clear to us that references to long hair on a man are cultural references that are not absolutes for all time. Sorry for the difficulty with your local church. Have you spoken with your local elders?
@@BranchTogether I have, the pastor is the one thats impeding me from serving actually. My dad is one of the leaders and he thinks theres no problem with me having long hair, but the pastor wont listen
1 Corinthians 9:20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; *to them that are under the law, as under the law,* that I might gain them that are under the law; 1 Corinthians 9:21 *To them that are without law, as without law,* (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
@@sambeezy007 I asked the Lord what He meant last year when someone asked me about this chapter at church. Lord showed me what HE meant: that the Corinthians sacrificed food to idols like a cottage industry. It would be difficult to find food NOT sacrificed to idols. However the Jewish people stood by old testament teaching and would not eat it or literally fast if food that was "defiled" was the only thing that was available. Those who were "knowledgeable" ate in freedom without guilt. The Lord is saying your "free knowledge" is good for you but you shouldn't feel like you are more enlightened eg more spiritual because you have that revelation. The ideal IS NOT to eat food sacrificed to idols. But if it can not be avoided eat and enjoy it. God says, "Be practical. Are you going to starve yourself for weeks because you can't find Kosher food in Corinth?" Ideal is to eat food that is NOT sacrificed to idols, BUT if that is all that is available then don't kill yourself trying to avoid it. EG ...if I buy clothes preferably by a heterosexual designer like Ralph Lauren is ideal. His jackets are $800 to $8000. Is that practical? How can I be sure the clothes I buy which are more affordable aren't designed by someone who is NOT heterosexual or from China that may also be offered to idols? The answer is I don't know that? So ideally I would love to only wear Ralph Lauren jackets but for $2400 I will choose a Michael Kors for $240. I will bless it before I wear it and enjoy it and thank God for it.
Great question Feranmi, I think what paul is saying is that it is not about the eating of food but about the love and knowledge of God and what you are doing. For the Corinthians, in this chapter, he is saying that we know idols are not gods because there is only one God therefore the food offered to them is not tainted. But, Paul says that some people before they knew God ate food of idols out of belief in them. Therefore for them their “conscious is weak'' meaning that even though they now know God something from their past is hard to get away from and they still may think that doing that thing is bad. But for other Christians they may have never struggled in this area and for them eating food offered to idols or “false gods” means nothing to them. Yet paul warns those Christians to be mindful of their brothers and sisters because if their conscious is not clear and they believe eating the food to idols is wrong then they are sinning if they do eat it and the Christians who eat without care can make their brother stumble and in so they are also sinning against God. Does that help? hope all is well.
Branch Together oooo makes senseee. I think Apostle Paul has us slightly confused when he used that example.😂😂😂😂esp after telling us NOT to eat such.😂😂
We believe that the meat eating restrictions that were part of the old covenant are no applicable to new covenant life. The new testament appears to present this. In other words, if you want to eat meant, there is not biblical restrictions on that.
But the doctrine itself is a stumbling block. The practice is warned against in Exodus and Acts, then condemend in Revelation. Theres no caveat for knowledge.
@@BranchTogether That "this right of yours", or in other versions liberty, is neither a right or a liberty at all. Its to be unilaterally avoided as per Exodus34: 15, Numbers25: 2, Acts15: 20&29/ Acts21: 25 and Revelation2: 14&20. The point is that Paul taught such liberty as well in Rom14 :14, 1Cor6: 12, 1Tim4:3 and 1Cor10: 23, and its a doctrine that has been associated with Balaam and the often misunderstood term "Nicholaitans". The aformentioned term isnt a single man or a congregation of said "man", but a practice. Its an Aramaism with a Greek suffix. @@BranchTogetherIt means that eating such food is strictly forbidden.
