I think some women embracing polygamy today, is the fact that they already had their children, they're not looking to have anymore children, they're lonely and they just need a husband/companion to travel, study islam with etc... They need their sexual desires fulfilled too. Marriage is half the deen. I don't see anything wrong with polygamy in islam. Most of the good/intelligent men are married. Very true. It seems that the first wife is required to “do the work” to even be able to tolerate and cope with the situation that she is required to find a way to live with. It generally is not a first wife’s choice, but something that she must learn to cope with or exit the marriage. Not a great choice to have to make. May Allah make it easy for all who choose this lifestyle. Ameen
But it's still a choice. We all have tough choices throughout life. We may not always have the choices we would like but nonetheless they are choices. That is life and once those choices are made don't cry and complain over the consequences. Be wise, think long and hard, ask Allah for the guidance and choose the safest route. That's what I advise myself with and then others. May Allah grant us success to please Him
Assalamualaikum! I am in the process of being a second wife. My case is very different from most of the ones I have seen. My case here, is the fact that the first wife is open and in fact wants a co-wife. She encourages me and wants me to be part of the family. But I am afraid of being jealous and the idea of it all. I do like the man and she's very nice. But in these type of marriages, there's mostly rivalry amongst the children, competition of whose child will be most successful. I am sceptical. Im in this process of being the second wife, but theres a lot of difficulty coming from my fellow sister, threatening with divorce and taking the kids away, she is informed about the situation but unwilling to accept. We are in communication with her and trying to establish a relationship, but her emotional states are always changing and she cannot make up her mind. And i dont know what to do sometimes. 😅 and I wanted to add to your video about choosing something like this, its defintely not scraping the bottom. I have never been married before and I am a law graduate, a yoga teacher and my focus has always been on self development. Its because of the character of the person that is so loving and caring, taken care of his family so well in 15 years. I understand the difficulty she is feeling about me coming in, but the fluctuations are not easy to deal with, and it takes a toll on me sometimes making me feel guilty, like i have done something wrong. I know it is all conditioning, but its not for the faint-hearted I guess. I have never ever wanted and never had any such request which i think is horrible, such as divorce. There are 3 beautiful kids in the family. Thats when I start to feel really stressed out, when she acts like that.
First, thank you for being open and mature. Sadly, this is common behavior for far too many initial wives and catches most by surprise. There are layers here from her using empty threats to just exposing her evil intentions, prayerfully it isn't the latter. Emotional manipulation via ultimatums, threats, shaming, or guilting are the most common forms. Unfortunately, manyen won't recognize who they've married until this topic is breached. This is where the strength or lack thereof regarding leadership, influence, and communication will be tested on his part. Her actions are just that and will have a net negative effect on their relationship going forward from now on because she has chosen to become an enemy in the way she responded. It isn't your fault or his, we're all responsible for our behaviors. He has some work to do and decisions to make as he's the one taking any and all risks and needs to stand in the discomfort of his decision because that's what exceptional men do.
