The instructor says that to be in a position where you have the spear pointing forward will prevent the person with the sword from attacking as if that's a bad thing. If you were fighting to the death then that would be optimal and would give you the opportunity to attack.

What is being filmed, is a person speaking on a subject they have very little knowledge on, if you look at Proper Yari, you'll see a lot of methods of openings to allow the "swordsman" I use the term sarcastically in regards to what is being filmed, cause if my own instructor saw me training like these two, I'm sure I would be corrected, but the one with the spear should be creating openings from Seigan, to allow the swords to attack and bring him into range of the pointy end, the spear is also too short, it should be between 8-9ft based ob my own school,
      Main criticism:
instructor: Lack of safety, Lack of proper technique, Make stuff up as he went along, going 100 miles an hour while his student is standing still,
Uke: no proper sword form, doesn't know how to defend properly, if he saw a technique failing (so the entire video) should have mentioned it and gave the instructor a quick tap to remind him
unfortunately, this is what happens when you give black belts out for "trying" "gift giving" and pay to black belts.

In war you do not wish to let the enemy leave the field of battle whole. And the longer it takes you to dispatch the enemy, gives the enemy’s fellows the chance to get to you
