    My favorite hoplite build is what I call "the Snakelady of Lordly Caliber," where you make a lamia hoplite with the Nifrit Sword (counter-poison, ranged poison, all the poisons) with the Gorgon Shield. Usually, both teams are facing each other at the start of a match, which means she can just.... slither forward a little bit, cast Evil Gaze like this is Ogre Battle 64, and petrify half the enemy team on the first turn.

    can confirm hoplites are rhe ultimate unit for doing hard maps for the first time,the last fight included. having spot dmg immunity that's manipulatable and debuff weapons can be exactly what you need to puzzle out of most anything the game can surprise you with. these guys and lizard wizards are both some of my fav classes lol

    I remember having one Hoplite in the PSP version and absolutely loving it, because I got one as early as Tynemouth (one thing I kinda miss in Reborn - I *really* wanted an early lizard squad) and it was the only unit for me that not only dealt crazy amounts but also had the survivability to back it up and the speed to put it to use (at least I *think* Hoplites had 1 more MOV than other units).

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Год назад +1

      They didn't have extra Movement, that was Juggernauts. Also, lizards spawn in Tynemouth, but you still need to get a Footsoldier mark from somewhere, because even in NG+ Hoplites don't spawn there as I recall. It was Warriors and Berserkers.

      @@CoffeePotato yeah, I realized I must have misremembered after watching your Juggernaut video a bit later. Which made me happy because I happened to drop a Juggernaut mark in Reborn!
      Also, yeah. I know they do, but without random encounters, I cannot recruit them there in Reborn (after the story battle). Unless I'm missing a mechanic I don't know about, that is. You can't recruit in training, can you?

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Год назад +2

      @@justsomejojo You can't in training, but you can hire the lizard classes from Pirate's Graveyard immediately, and in huge numbers. Especially Hoplites, it's like the Gates of Hell, but more like Gates of Boat and More Boat.

    Patriarch/Matriarch, Juggernaut and Hoplite all three of these classes are far superior than most human classes, its crazy they gave them exclusively to the reptiles and orcs. BTW fairy familiar and gremlin familiars are totally different and gremlins are just the assholiest of all I think, I just recruited one, they can literally put one unit out of commission completely and slowly killing them. I hope you take extra care for that class, haven't got any Pumpkin yet, I wonder what surprise is waiting about them.

    • @AlekTrev006
      @AlekTrev006 Год назад +1

      It’s kind of funny, indeed - cause you’d think if the Lizards and Orcs of the world would unify and be less marauding-band-y, they could crush the Human Kingdoms with legions of Hoplites, Juggernauts, and Patri/Matriarchs 😜
      ~ I finally got my Femakks Blowgun for my Fairy Familiar, on Level-81 of POTD, and it’s still depressing how little damage it does even w Rank-40 Blowguns. I think the problem is POTD has that annoying “you are nerfed to Level-40, and enemies are 45-50+” thing going on. It’s probably not a ‘fair’ place for me to Test such results on…
      (Sadly, I also realized that since Blowguns probably count as Ranged ~ in the same way as Bows and Crossbows in Reborn ~ they likely suffer from that ‘barely can do damage to anything slightly armored, unless you spend the time to Frighten / Breach the target first.. 😪)

    • @doha057
      @doha057 Год назад +1

      @@AlekTrev006 Oh yea, all three of those classes can be in the front line. Few skill cards and they can stop any army easily. Btw blowguns are like cudgels I think, don't bother with their damage, use them only for status. In PSP version only Ruhula did some damage if I remember correctly, on Ninja's hand nonetheless. Their finishers aren't that bad though, Familiars can be like Rune Fencer in terms of executing finishers every turn. Use basic attack only if your familiar don't have enough MP to do anything.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Год назад +1

      @@AlekTrev006 You can still get the bigger numbers from elemental hits too, it's not just Breach/Fear. I've been running two blow gunners mostly for debuffs, but they'll still break out the occasional wacky number.
      This area has come up a few times, though, and I think I'd like to make a video covering what the level gaps really do strategically speaking.

      @@CoffeePotato That would be a great subject to cover, actually, Lord Coffee ! One huge thing it seems to affect is chance to land Debuffs. In PoTD, my Lich or Lamia Matriarch still need Concentration to trigger, to have even 50-60ish % odds of landing a simple Poison Cloud on the Level-45 Foes I’m regularly facing in Floors 80+ ! I just checked in a battle on Floor-85. Medusa, my ‘nerfed to Lvl-40 in POTD’ Matriarch, procced Concentration on Turn-1. She’s sporting a MIND of 186 and an in-battle Magic Power of 531. Her displayed chance to Poison WITH Concentrate active, remember, is just 49% on an enemy Lvl-45 Uruk, 52% on a Shadow Knight, 60% on a Scylla, and 48% on a Banshee. WITH Concentrate working for me 😯.
      Without it, it’s almost impossible to land anything on foes, other than the 100% Statuses that come from the guaranteed hit moves (Frightful Impact, Tremendous Shot, etc).
      So, instead of trying to Poison the Uruk, Medusa just hit him for 798 of his 1399 Hit Points, with Wendigo-2… 😂
      ==
      On the end-game Blowguns angle, in that same Floor-85 fight, I had my Fairy Familiar Ella try to target the various foes with her (admittedly not yet Maxed out) Femakk’s Blowgun ~ 2nd strongest to Rahula, and really only it and Rahula are capable of ‘genuine’ damage in the late-game, I think. Her listed ‘expected’ damage to un-breached / un-frightened enemies was ONE.. except the Banshee she showed 9 damage expected, and on the Death Eater wizard, 102 (out of his 1050 total HP) 😅. That’s with her having Lvl-40 Blowguns and 847 listed Ranged Attack.
      If I try the various Finishers, I’m seeing things like 1-damage even with the Finishers, with the exception of the high damage modifier on Heaven’s Scorn (the final Light-aligned Finishing move), that shows just 102 on the Uruk 🤣. The ‘best’ result from the entire map would be her using Heaven’s Scorn finisher on the wizard Death Eater, for 352 damage (cause she’s a Wind Fairy and he’s an Earth element).
      Don’t get me wrong.. 352 is ‘decent’… but the you realize that she’d need to hit that one wizard foe with her strongest Finisher, WITH her having elemental advantage… THREE times.. to actually kill him ?! That’s where it just seems a bit off, to me. Alternatively, if I have her just target him with a Deadshot-4 air spell, it shows 300 damage expected, for just 45 MP (compared to Heaven Scorn’s 70). I love a ton about Reborn, no doubt, but it just seems like (at least in the late End Game phase-5, as you term it) that the tweaks they did to physical attack formulas (Ranged most notably) result in Magic damage seeming far more viable / efficient most of the time ?
      ~ apologies for rambling on so much here ! I just love theory-talking in games like this, and you have a fascinating mind for this series, so I always appreciate your perspective and insights 😀.

    imo, Hoptile is much better serving as a survivor on the frontlines
    They do have the tankiness of a Knight but they also have damage nullify procs, preventing one instance of damage from both physical and magical. Don't matter if the hit was 1 damage or 9999, the hit is blocked.
    And rapier glance is very useful to stop nearby enemies for a few RT, guarantee hit at rank 4 (I think duration is higher if hoplite MND is high?)
    *Hoptile & Juggernaut is still my fave frontline combo*
