It was an amazing thing to watch. Even the way they continued to introduce the groups each day, and there were 30 people deep for the big groups. I do feel for Pavon though being his national olympics, and he crashed and burned but it was good.
@@jessefitz3it’s something very very ‘special’ …that is the word most players used to describe the experience. For many players it already is bigger than the majors. Just ask Tom Kim. But it’s not a major. It’s like the players or other awards mentioned in addition to majors.
It was telling after all the controversy of these Olympics all the bosses of the IOC were in attendance for the final day, golf is pure, really great tournament
The only thing with this whole “changing the format” talking point is, most if not all other sports don’t change their format for the competitions. 72 hole stroke play is the traditional format and that’s what the Olympics try to stick with for the most part
You can't have a formula one style format coz the fields change every week in golf and you can't keep a points system beyond the FEDEX points system. F1 is just 20 competitors for 13 events the whole year and not everything there is transferrable to a golf tour. I think the current golf format is doing just fine. Every tournament gives up its own challenges and everyone in field has as good a chance as any other player.
What makes a Major? History and legacy. I can't tell you who won which PGA tournament 2 years ago, but I will be able to tell you who won Paris Olympic Golf decades from now. And the players who have won a medal will always have that as a Major achievement. So, to me, Olympics is for sure a Major; perhaps its even more important. Give me an Olympic gold medal over pga championship any day of the week.
@@bryanh2898 apparently you don’t follow these podcasts closely otherwise you would get it. As it turns out you’re talking out of pocket. Abraham Lincoln said it best…”better to sit there and say nothing and let the rest of the room think you’re an idiot or open your mouth and prove them right.”….Now fuck off
F1 has the podium ceremony. Let's start that with golf, on the PGA Tour, LIV, DP and everything else. These players that keep getting top 3s/podiums deserve their limelight.
Why all this cynical hate? It was a great day with lots of drama and at the end Scottie crying on the podium. Feeling bad for Jon and Xander, but that is how it goes…
I think they need to trim the field. How about get rid of the bottom 10 players after Round 2, and then get rid of the remaining bottom 5 lets say after Round 3. There is no point watching someone who's 15 shots out with 18 holes to play. Every sport has some sort of pool play, and elimination rounds, so why not introduce that.
This was the worst field in the history of golf, at least since Young Tom Morris was whipping sheep farmers at Prestwick. Gavin Green? Ryan Fox in his 3rd Olympics? Yay! Kiradech Aphibarnrat--we had to watch 3 or 4 shots of his before Peacock figured out it wasn't in the "spirit of the Olympics" to show him waddling down the fairway smoking a heater. It was dreadful and just because some of you got whipped up emotionally by the French "golf" fans, don't try to tell us that this was great golf. It was an emotional high for some but nothing else. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful field. This will never be anything but a second rate exhibition. Definitely not as good a field as the Hero Challenge.
Embarrasing commentary along the way. I mean on day 4 of the Olympics golf tournament people are saying Kim Tom, and Matsuyama Hideki....maybe grasp the concept of First Name, Last Name. Especially since Tom Kim lives in Dallas, and has for a long time.

@kennethbynum7839 Once sure. Now, it's a monopoly... If the golfers had anywhere else to go, they would. I don't like how the pga has ruined it's self. But it has. My children don't give one hoot for the pga.... they got teams in liv and now golf.

Olympic golf is now a major imo
A tournament that only shows up every 4 years on the world stage....absolutely agree

Well done Scottie, Tommy and Hideki. Great finish. Allowing PGA of America to set up the course made it too easy.
Great pod as usual.
For the mixed team, you do not have to have the same golfers. Just add other golfers from the mens and womens competition.
Ryan, you got it wrong! Vijay Singh's 2004, when he won nine times, including a major championship. That is better than the years you mentioned.

Jon Rahm choked big time in the back-9, so did Xander.
Yeah, I was really surprised with Xander after his performance at Troon…
They didn't choke as always some puts up a low round 62 they are pros and one 9f them will post a really low score each round! 😊

As an American I was rooting for Scottie, but I am happy to see him medal. Love the respect he showed when he won the masters. Big fan.
Valderrama as much as i love it, is not good preparation for The Open

I prefer it when the amateurs played in the Olympics.
Thank goodness for fast forward……
