That’s my bestie’s brother! I promise you have never before seen the level of passion genius and DRIVE this dude has put into this project (I remember the cardboard garage model back in the day..) Right on Marcus!!
Yup! as many are being wrecked down, we might see a good number of them. This has been our wetdream for some time now. My wife refuses to get a van/camper/rv until the electric is avail - with the super charging network A++...
Crazy. A home on wheels. What amazing times we live in. I can see a whole industry growing from this. People using these to travel around the country, visiting parks and other areas of the country. Maybe even living in them.
A quick study of current RV construction methods favors closed cell foam walls and ceiling sandwiched with 5 mm light ply. Widely space aluminum frame adds hard points. Thin solar panels are the preferred roofing material. Filon or other material is the exterior preferably with a high quality car paint. It would be interesting to see which construction is lighter, as weight is everything in an RV. There is no point in building strong as there is zero crash protection. Sound damping is an important factor that is often overlooked. That open structure will be loud in the rain. Neat idea. I would really like to have an electric RV that's plastered with solar panels.
Get it touch with Solarolla and get them to make you a massive solar 'awning' to put on top, that would be awesome. Those guys seem like amazing people, I'm sure they'd collab. Pretty sure that Now You Know would love to do a story on this as well :)
Check to see if you can see stop lights at an intersection once the roof is enclosed. If it's difficult perhaps consider making a window above the windscreen so that traffic lights at easier to see. I drove an F550 that had a ramp over the roof to the front bumper and seeing traffic lights sometimes was difficult because they were obscured by the ramp.
This is great, a motorhome with FSD is the holy grail of motorhome pipe dreams. I’m my opinion, the cybertruck with range extender would probably be a superior base (range, fly by wire steering, turning radius), but building this off a wrecked Model S is definitely the cost effective way to prove the concept!! Can’t wait to see it finished
As cool as your airplane type structure is it has the major disadvantage of a lot of thermal transfer. You're better to go for a lightweight foam core sandwich panel.
It's an interesting idea, and is closer to my ideal camper than the bus sized monstrosities I've seen on the freeway. My only concern is that the vehicle's boxy shape will really trash the Tesla camper's freeway range. You probably won't even see 150 mi with a 100KWh battery pack and a 60mph cruising speed.
It appears they tried to get Maximum interior Space, within the Model S Wheelbase! So, they went up Vertical, at both ends! Trying to fit everything in such a short (for an RV) wheelbase, will always end up like a Box, be it an Airstream Copy, or Not!
It would be nice if Tesla could sell a flat chassis for 3rd parties to convert in to all types of vans. With steer by wire and modular camera system so these could be connected for all round vision you could have a software configurator to set up the vehicle parameters and have self driving RV. You could go make a burger while the computer takes over the driving.
This is really cool, and I can't believe all the work put into this so far! I think this is a great vehicle, but I think the layout could be improved. I think a bed in the back would be more important than the washer/shower. In this small space, it can't have everything, but I would prioritize a minimum 120cm wide bed. and some more seating/table area. I guess the owner is aware of the VW Westfalia camper layout. Guessing from the roof design, I think that's a very well designed living space plan for this size of vehicle. I hope the builder reads this! SO cool!
Great concept idea to pursue. Looks like a promising prototype. Notes: Configure the passenger seat arrangement into a fold out step over the wheel and entry like Fedex/UPS delivery trucks to convert the wasted space of the side door and interior stairs into living space. Make sure the steering wheel shaft won't be "unsafe at any speed" like the 1960s Corvair etc in collisions (mechanical not "by wire" steering will be more marketable to the target audience, but make it safe). Verify center of gravity remains low (there are fed safety tests for tip over on side hills, like a camper would see getting in/out of camp grounds, and highway speed side-wind buffeting to be concerned with). Some folks like "a garage" of sorts for bikes, tools, propane, and so on. Are those spaces between the wheels planned storage like busses use for luggage?
Would love to see you produce these as well as sell complete plans for replicating it. Would be great to have same for converting Model S or X into a 2-seater truck.
I know the parts would have been reused anyway but such a nice way to keep this car (now RV) on the road. Amazing work and construction. Keeping the wall thickness down would gain you a few inches in the interior.
might be a bit hard as the tesla does nos not have a chassis the body is part of the structure and you realy need to cut sheetmetal off to get it to fiit , , there a tesla plaid that some guys put a roudesy body on , and they have a complete series of the conversion , check out boosted boys boosted boys plaidesey
We are still trying to figure out how to scale. Once we finalize this construction, we can decide whether this is a one-of, or ready for mass production,
you should create the first Tesla BUS like 8 Seats or less for a school or anything , it would take you less time to develop and less money and if you manage to make drive it self it would sell it self
Mostly because no RV has enough energy to power a washing machine, but Tesla battery can do it without issues. I live in a van for 3 years now and a washing machine would be awesome 😎
@@Sony-ox7wxThis is NOT the reason RVs don’t have washing machines my friend. You only need them for a bit every week or so - plugging in occasionally is not the issue. Their not used cause their massive and most people figure out using a few quarters is way way better to get the space back in all but the largest RVs. But maybe the market is entirely people who know nothing about RVing. 🤷♂️
1. How many btus are the air-conditioning and heating?... and how many minutes or hours will those last? 2. How many watt hours? 3. What tire and suspension upgrades to accommodate the extra weight? Thanks
It would be really interesting if you could string together more than Model S, so it's like twice as long. That would give you twice the battery capacity, and twice the amount of space to build the RV on. I don't know about others, but when I think about the range you'll get out of this at highway speeds, you'll be lucky to get 100-150 miles per charge. A bigger battery would go a long way.
hard top with canvis sides like a pop-up camper for bedroom area. push button up and down switch to raise and lower as everyones lazy to setup. hard top to place solar pannels to charge car would make it handy, instead of parked at supercharger
Why raise the steering cockpit? Personal choice? Why not use the original steering column and just back the cockpit back to accommodate the stock column angle? You could have kept the steering assist, had storage in the front and cantilever the back end to preserve design length. Me thinks you got stuck on a box design over a more utility box type design. Although, if the steering was wrecked during its accident, you pretty much had a clean state to be creative. If so then, we’ll done. I do like the design. I subbed to see it progress.
This looks like an interesting project. Designed for the future DYO crowd. Unlikely to be a marketable product. Study ALL other RV designs. You will recognize better materials, forms, and how Tesla powertrains will be complimentary. Then birth an improved completed prototype. There is certainly a business opportunity. The quest for investment bankers is the challenge. Study Aptera, Fiskar, ElectraMeccanica, struggle for financing, and partnerships. I commend your enthusiasm and creativity.
Really cool! Can’t help but think- -Shell Construction Method… cost will be 5 zillion dollars… sun roof in RV is problematic… not sure where 1000 watt solar fits even if most creative.
If totaled vehicles are being used how are is the problem of supercharging on Tesla's network being navigated? As far as I last knew Tesla does not support repurposed vehicles on their network as well as salvaged title vehicles.
I’ve got about a hundred van life / Rv friends and I don’t think any of them have a full size washing machine. What’s that weigh with water in it? Does it drain out the side?
its very cool and all, and erm. road collision safety thingemejigs? any of them? so basicly don't get in a traffic accident unilateral or otherwise because you will be unalive real quick
Is that a washer dryer combo? Why would you put that in such a tiny vehicle? I’ve watched more than 50 van builds and never seen one where space is a premium.
I do not like the sink in the bathroom and the kitchen. It is a waste of space. I would have tried to fit a larger refrigerator in it... and a larger oven. I would also have a retracting awning on one side with a detachable mosquito netting.
