Sorry about video motion/movement especially from ~1:40 - 3:30. I’m aware my video skills need improvement this is only video #3. Thanks for watching, hope this video helps somebody out.

Thanks for making this video! I am about to attempt this and being able to watch you go over it first is a huge help. I love your idea of using tape. I have big hands to begin with and I was trying to figure out how to get that done, but you provided an easy answer.
Don't worry about the video skills, people don't realize how hard it is to video and wrench at the same time! Not to mention the damn editing you have to do afterwards to get it on RUclips. Thanks for putting the time in to help us all out!

Thanks for posting this. I need to do this. I've disassembled my dash twice to study an ponder, and I moved the small wheel to the defrost position but is slipped back to heater position after a few days each time. I have the replacement part but I didn't feel up to installing it in the maddeningly restricted space. Your narrative helps me understand several key points so I will be trying the full fix.
    Some clarifications:
The top of the small wheel is pushed toward the front of the car to place it in defrost mode. Maybe I misunderstood but your narrative seemed to indicate the opposite. I plan to leave the wheel indash vent position with the car controls set correpondingly when I do the install. This will be to avoid synchronization problems others reported that required reprogramming.
Also - a question: Did you install the new black arc gear with the center nob to the left? I inferred this from the video.
Much appreciate you sharing this info.

Yes, you are correct the top of the small wheel pushed toward the front engages defrost. That’s what I was trying to say and sorry for any confusion.
Yes, new gear center knob to the left. You’ll see it on the old one when you remove.
Thanks for the comment and clarifications. This is a challenging job so happy the video helps somebody out.
I guess one point I’ll make is I have average sized arms. I scratched and bruised my left forearm doing this job. I was really wishing I had skinnier arms and was left handed doing this job, would have made it a lot easier 😅

This took me 2 1/2 hours but I could probably now do this job in 30 minutes.

Wish I could be more help. I may have been lucky as it worked for me first time after replacing, not sure, but my placement of all or nearly all of replacement part teeth toward the front of the vehicle in front of the small gear worked.

      @dustyathome9824  Год назад +1

Might have overlapped 1-2 teeth at most on small gear/wheel, and then small gear/wheel turns forward on top, backwards on bottom turning replacement part back toward rear of vehicle.

    . . . .aftermarket brands better than your genuine GM parts ? . . .as you're kidding me , right ?

The oem part is a common failure, hence why he made the video and why you watched it. So no, he's not kidding.

I wasn’t trying to stir the pot, simply trying to help. I don’t know if the factory part is better or worse than aftermarket. I guess time will tell, but I just bought a replacement part and was hoping viewers would do their own research and not just copy the brand I bought which is the reason I even spoke about that. I do not know if the brand I bought is superior or inferior to others or the factory brand. The focus of the video was to help others who were struggling like I was to replace this part, not to debate the part used. But I welcome that criticism if you have helpful suggestions for viewers for which replacement part to buy. Thanks for your comment.

@@kennymitchell456wrong. The ORIGINAL design, as he shows in this video is the problem part...GM has had a newer design, like the junk dorman one, that is available and has been for years. 13263335 is the number. So no, the aftermarket is not better than OEM in this case. And the OEM is made in the USA, not junk china.

Biodegradable plastic 😆 so now 3D printed parts are even better than genuine.
