Thank you for making this video. We just bought a new chocolate stud dog and AFTER we purchased him we discovered he carries the fluffy gene. At first I was concerned because I’ve seen what kind of attention that gene brings but after this I feel better about it. Thank you.
Wow such a knowledgeable video again!! Thank you for being very honest and sharing with us all. I have a question.. why would you get big problems breeding a Merle to a merle?? But not a blue to a blue?. Like whats the difference in the genetics. Thanks :-)
I have been talking about the need for genetic diversity for years!!! Just to be laughed at or put down by other show breeders who have been in their” breed for 20-30 years and have tons of issues in their line but will not share it or correct it and the dogs suffer... To me it is absolutely despicable!
This is a great video. True that there are thousands of genes in an organisms genome as you have said. But there is also the concept of linkage to bear in mind. i just dont know if there has been established unwanted genes that are linked to particular traits - i.e white coat, merle coat etc…
My name is TaShauna I’m using my husband’s account all the time haha! I just want to say thank you… I’ve even called you before for advice. I think just like you and appreciate this video. I’m confused on how to feel about AKC and sometimes think it’s a joke because if they don’t recognize a certain color… why do they allow that color to be registered? I like how you said all dogs came from somewhere and the comments about genetic diversity. It makes me think of discrimination in history… standards can change… Idk. I just wanted to comment and say thanks for all the videos
Not a geneticist Blue is a single gene out of some 30000 genes that make up a dog. The idea that a single color gene will make significant difference is pretty silly. Like saying blue eyed people are stupid. Blue eyes are because of a double recessive gene that only effect eye color and absolutely nothing else. Same in the dd genes of dogs
I absolutely LOVE all your videos. Always learning from you, thank you. Are chow chow colour genetics presented to the same way do you know? Also when you show what colour puppies could be produced it looks like it’s entirely determined by each parents actual colour. So how does that work when people say their dog can produce many different colours? I hope that makes sense
Hi James I have a female that carries Ay/At B/B d/d EM/EM N/S With one of your stud wood you think will be good To us ..I’m looking into using a stud you have

You’d make a great junior high science teacher. I would have paid attention!
Mind blown! Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Very clear thanks
Are you a geneticist? Also can you explain why so many standard show breeders claim blue colours are bad for genetics in French bulldogs?
