I wish the whole section was on here with a wider shot. This ballet is so amazing....

This IS the best corp in the world. They move like one person. Everybody from the same school. No other company has a corp like that. IOt is definetely the KIROV.

I don't understand why everyone hates somova ? She's has beautiful extensions and she is turned out, but she is solo flexible. Why does everyone say thar's a bad thing. It's like a new standard in ballet to have certain height in your extensions, so then why do people feel the need to hate and say she isn't expressive because of her extensions?

fabulous - only problem is, the rest of the ballet doesnt seem to be on You Tube - any chance of it being loaded (with the same dancers) !!

I saw last night with Tereshkina, it was absolutely wonderful, and today I'll see with Somova.
For the couch critics who call her weak, tired etc. you should try this ballet. At the first barre scene you maybe out of commission til the next day and you still have 25 minutes of pirotecnique.
Now long limb, high extension, being graceful having the best school in the world is bad?

I don't go to see thr ballet to see how hard it is either. But I went to a ballet school for 10 years and this ballet IS extremelly hard and the Kirov pulls virtuosi strikes that no other company will even think of trying. and they do in perfect fifth.

Yeah my guess is between 5' 7" - 5'9". Cynthia Gregory and Suzanne Ferrell both had that elongated/ statuesque quality. I know when I look at footage of myself its hard to watch cause I have LONG limbs too...I am such a perfectionist...

I sincerely don't get why people like to badmouth the Kirov so much. Ready for it. The woman is a principal in the best company in the world. Not is some little schol in the middle of somewhere. Her serious of arabesque passes where magnificent. I saw her varitation and adagios, we'd better stop badmouthing and starting learning with them.
By the way, ABT instead of 8 tours does, tour, single turn. I thought they had the best mmen in the world until I saw Sarafanov.

I saw Ms. Somova at City Center. She was absolutely gourgeous in the ballet. And as a ballet danceer I do not see any problems with this particular video that some of you can see. I saw with Tereshkina and she was just as gourgeous.
A while ago I saw with Dvorovenko from ABT and Murphy. they did not look any better. EVERYBODY IS TIRED AT THIS POINT.
Have a look at Katherine Healy's version on YT, it's much worse and she iwas a virtuoso.
About Sarafanov, he made everyman I know look like s...

Since someone mentioned both Osipova and Somova, I've gotta say, there are much better ballerinas at both the Bolshoi and Kirov. That both companies are promoting them as stars reflects a troubling trend toward tricks (jumping for Osipova, ear high extensions for Somova); neither of them are even close to finished dancers. If I'm going to watch a Russian ballerina I'd rather see a Kondaurova or Tereshkina. But I think Veronika Part may be right, ballet in the former Soviet Union is declining.

I have to say this: I LOVE Alina Somova. This shocks me tbh because I'm very much a ballet purist. I recognize that Alina usually has problematic hands, flimsy technique and questionable interpretation of character (not to mention that God awful extension that totally distorts her torso), but she's just so charming! When she dances, she commands the stage and you just can't take your eyes off her for one second! Hope one day she'll find the artistry and technique to match that charisma.

She is gorgeous how tall is she? It seems like russia is producing the worlds longest ballerinas!!!!

  • @aharper12

i agree and then Osipova gets flack for being strong...Somova is flemsy she needs to practice her porte de bras. She is too flexible.

I think you should LEAVE ME ALONE. you seemed to have just joined youtube and is telling people how to act. There is a place to reply and the person doesn't like what I said they can reply to me and noone seems to need your advocacy.
And I don't like to see woderful dancers like Simova, Part and Fan trashed by people who probably can barely do fifth position.
    Again, leave me alone.

I really don't understand why Alina is so celebrated. She always appears sloppy and not in control when I see her in videos. Being flexible and thin isn't enough for me.

ok, i usually think people are harsh on somova - but she really looks awful in this - no energy, no precision, she looks like she's flailing and heavy
