Thank you to you, Graham, Tommy and Norman and to all the team. The voice of sanity in an era where there is unquestioning simpering sycophancy to the royal family. Thank you Tommy for your Scottish angle, which is revealing to us in England who get an unremittingly royalist slant from the MSM. Norman, - your book is great. I lent it to the in-laws who shared it with their friends and is now lost to me doing the rounds in genteel Sussex (!), such that I had to buy another (updated) copy. I also treated myself to a bumper pack of literature from your shop over the jubilee period which I am eagerly awaiting. Collectively you have opened my eyes to the big con that is the royal family. Thank you. The real job is to spread the word to the huge majority of the population who, through no fault of their own, are entirely ignorant. BTW - you are right: monarchy and the royal family do not register with my 20 yo daughter's generation - total irrelevance.

Loved your book Mr. Baker. Should be required reading by all students in the UK.

I sometimes think that the public should be selected at random from the electoral register to carry out Royal-public service and sit in the Royal box at events like the Jubilees and Wimbledon, attend a Royal funeral or weddings or spend a few days with the Royal Family at Christmas and Easter at Sandringham. It would be like jury service and would be difficult to back out of and so out of all those people republicans might be selected and they would report back what it was like being around them.
Just like only a minority of people get selected to be on juries only a minority of people would be selected for this. All they would have to do will be to dress up for the part and join in with the Royal Family for a day to a few days and travel expenses would be paid to them in advance or an official car sent to their home to collect them.

it's about time we abolished the monarchy in my eyes and many others it's not fit for purpose

Government is geared to protecting and conserving the Monarchy, so is very difficult to get rid of them.

Remind me.. did this MP not swear a oath to the saxe coburgs in order to get his 87k a year and 250k in expenses!!!.
Hypocrisy and the SNP perfect bedfellows...

I have never laughed so much as when i read this weak, feeble and vain attempt at criticism.
1, You HAVE to swear an allegiance to Mrs Queen or you don't become an MP.
2, MPs' salaries are set by the independent review commission, NOT THEM. Some give their increases to charity.
3,Check his expense claims in his last year as an MP and it's nowhere near the figure you claim.

Keith, the oath is outdated and pointless and quite frankly coercive in this day and age.
