I've never come across anyone else with pitangtuba here in the uk Dom so you've done brilliantly getting them to flowering stage from seed. I admit i know very little about them 😁

Thanks, Brett. Wish my Grumichama was half as large as your plant. I must be doing something wrong because it's doing nothing.
I think '52 degrees North' also grows Pitangatuba. ... but yeah, pretty rare for the UK.
The rarest plant I'm currently growing is the 'Eugenia anthropophaga'.

    Very interesting plants!

Thank you, it's incredible that they can flower at such a small size. I believe it may have set fruit now although it's probably too small to hold on to any of them.

That looks like flower buds to me 🙌🏾
As you said, it’s very encouraging that its starting to flower at that size. 🙌🏾🌱

I'm so happy to see those flower buds but they won't set fruit this year. None-the-less, it's nice for the plant to give me this sign of encouragement.

Wow, incredibly healthy-looking! I'm amazed that they are growing in what appears to be a peaty mix. I find that I get root issues and fungus gnats when I use a mix that's predominately peat-based. I seem to get better results with a higher ratio of aggregates to peat. I find that the 'Safety Tread' clay grnaulate works well as part of a growing mix. The peat I used is Jamieson Brothers.
I wonder if the acidity of peat causes aluminum or fluoride to leach out of perlite and harm the plants?
I have a number of pitangatubas growing. The 'regular' one and also a strain with elongated fruits (that's what the seller described them as, but for all I know the 'elongated fruits' pitangatuba could be a different Eugenia species altogether).

I like aggragates in theory but in practice I'm too lazy (or busy) to make sure they plants are always watered. I find peat moss based substrates very useful because they seam to hold the perfect about of water without turning muddy.
I've been pleased to see my Pitangatubas with flowers this year, just wish they would a little faster ... I'm sure they'll take off soon.
I also have Eugenia anthropophaga (sometimes call 'Banana Pitanga') The plants are doing quite well and really looking forward to the time when they start to flower.
These also have elongated Pitanga looking fruit. Apparently, in their native territory, they start flowering and fruiting at 2-3 years old.

Wow, very exciting, Dom! They definitely look like flowers!

Thanks, Peter ... I'm pretty pleased with these plants. If they can produce flowers at such a small size then it's very promising.
Also, I got offered an allotment plot yesterday, so along with stuffing my face with sun-ripened figs, it's a good gardening week for me. 😂

@@MoebiusUK do you know how old they are? They’ve done great to flower at that size!
Oh wow, congratulations! I bet you are over the moon about that! That reminds me I’ve not done an allotment update for a while.

@@PeterEntwistle According to the purchase receipt for the seeds, I bought them in September 2022 ... they would have germinated the following month, making these plants a couple months shy of 2 years old.
Thanks, yeah i'm super stoked about the allotment. . ... the plots aren't great. but it's outdoor space which I'm grateful for.
Yes, It'll be good to see an allotment update from you.

@@MoebiusUK Yeah, choosing the plot can be a bit tricky. I had a choice of 3 but decided to go with mine due to it getting more sun than some of the others and also having very little on it, so it was more of a blank canvas.
I think I'm going to plant some of my duplicate pawpaws at the allotment and a few other things that would prefer to be in the ground, but don't really have space to plant in my garden.

@@PeterEntwistle I'm afraid there's no choosing plots in my borough. It's more of a case of 'like it ot lump it' 😂.
There's literally thousands of people wanting less than 100 already allocated allotment plots. .. The council have had to close the waiting list.
I haven't viewed the exact plot yet but I have a feeling it might be partially shaded by some useless, non-fruiting, tall trees 👎🏽😂 . ... I'm going tomorrow 5.pm to do the handover.
Great idea to plant some Pawpaw doubles on your plot ... Not sure if I'll be able to due to height restrictions. I think the head-overseer said we had a 6ft limit. 🤷🏽
