For laptop suggestions- Honestly, I’d say don’t buy one. If your school rents them out that would be so much more efficient to use when taking tests. Otherwise, if you have no problem doing other school tasks on your iPad, I find it so much nicer than a laptop because the keyboard case turns it into a computer whenever I want it to be, and when I take notes, I detach it and write on screen with the Apple Pencil. iPads are so good nowadays (especially the pros) that you really don’t need to shell out extra money if you’re only going to use it to take tests. (But if you’re going to buy one for sure, the best one if you have an iPhone and iPad is a one or two year-old refurbished or slightly used MacBook Air. Powerful enough to get stuff done without being bulky or super $$$)

For a laptop suggestion: Im going into my freshman yr of college as an engineer major (so i need a good reliable laptop lol). I have an xps 13. It's really good, just a bit on the pricier side of 1500. There was a deal where you could get it for 855, 900 with tax and shipping, but idk if that's still going on. The only downside is that its on the smaller side and has only 2 usb port thingies so you'd need an adaptor
If you are doing some programming, business classes, excel, and stuff like that a Windows software computer might be your best bet. However, if you are doing design a Macbook Air will work wonders for you, and if you are doing a lot of editing pictures and videos a Macbook Pro is the way to go. Also, I would suggest not getting a computer whether is Apple or Windows software with less than 12 GB of RAM and making sure is more than 256 GB SSD. Lastly, I would suggest checking them out at the store and see if you prefer a 13-inch, 14-inch laptop, or 15-inch screen and see what's more comfortable for you. Hope this helps
