I think you're missing the stronger Red Clock combo in Ursula. Red Clock + Raven Quill + Archaic Glyphs is infinite Glyphs with an inherent +5 that doesn't eat up your ally slot. Plus Raven Quill tutors the Glyphs to cut down on set up time. That's a significantly higher ceiling than the Pendant combo, and less costly to assemble
@@GuerricSamplesGames Alright, sold. I'll tinker with that. Archaic Glyphs is obviously strong and criminally underplayed at my table. I love cute combos and raven quill isn't getting the play it deserves. I'll toss Ursula in the circle back pile and test that. It looks sick. I do worry how much I can trigger her ability and about exp setup time, but her ability matters less if my card pool just removes all clues from the map by giving me easily available, unlimited uses on Archaic Glyphs.
@RatherIncoherent The good news about the exp setup time is that Raven Quill is also an xp booster for some reason. So between that and Charon's Obol it's not as bad as it looks
In this combo deck does Whitton Greene beat out Milan? You always get the stat boosts thanks to Obol, and Whitton tutors out two parts of the combo (or all 3 if you upgrade Quill to tutor the Glyphs)
@@moooseman3 Whitton is still a good fit in the deck for helping to find Red Clock, and you can always play Red Clock and Glyphs "honestly" while you continue searching for Raven Quill. But yeah she's not a slam dunk because she can't grab Raven Quill
Playing an Ursula built around scroll of secrets 3 and written in the stars to do amanda at home, to try and get some value out of the extra investigates from Ursula. I'm sure the deduction 2 x 6 investigates will happen at some point...
I love Ursula. I get that she's not the most powerful, and her build is limited, but the build she's largely limited to is one of my favourite play styles in Arkham. I wished she had access to Nimble.
She is quite underrated. Played her in two blind playthroughts - in Forgotten Age with Gene and in Dream-Eaters with Crystallizer of Dreams and Red Clock. Both decks used Whitton Greene and were very successful and quite fun runs.
Can someone explain to me how Ursula isn’t just (in most cases) “better Rex?” She got the one punch moved over to foot and her reaction AT ITS WORST gets her an additional clue. However, her reaction is to take an investigate action NOT a basic investigate. So any clue acceleration asset pops off on her.
@@EyesOnTheTreeline Most non-basic investigates are limited in use and having bonus actions to use them doesn't result in more value out of them, at least in my experience. 5 dunwich splash cards is a lot better than OBoL imo. Rex's ability is notably better than Ursula's in early scenarios before Pathfinder / Eon Chart.
@@RatherIncoherent Hmm. You could definitely be right. Maybe I just don't value the Dunwich splash as highly as other people in seeker specifically since their card pool is so strong. With non-basic investigates like Grim Memoir and Chemistry Set at lvl 0 and then Archaic Glyphs and Fingerprint Kit for exp I feel like an Ursula that knows when to trigger her reaction can easily keep up at lvl 0 and excel faster with the extra Obol XP. Or maybe I just have to play Rex again to remember how strong he can be.
@EyesOnTheTreeline I find she's at her best when she's either on larger maps (eote), or when she has 2-3 locations she can bounce between unchecked to soak up a bunch of clues. Barring that, Rex just excells at generally anything, and can still put in a lot of work at high player counts.
Generally speaking, getting 2 clues requiring 2 skill tests (Ursula) is weaker than getting 2 clues from a single test (Rex) because the chaos bag is stacked against you, even if the action cost is the same. I would argue that Rex’s ability is fundamentally stronger on the basis of that.
My wife is playing Ursula along side me playing Carson and we have a Lily fighter. She's doing fine. Like the character is strong, but not interesting at all. Which is fine for my wife.
I do think Ursula is strong and undervalued. I get that she’s better at lower player counts, but because of that I think she gets perceived as worse than she is when you get to like, 3 player games. Seekers card pool just gives her so many ways to use her ability. I feel like it’s a general rule that if your investigator gives you a free action to do pretty much anything it’s inherently pretty strong, and Ursula’s free action is to investigate (albeit with a condition), probably the most important thing to do in the game. I should start keeping track of how many free investigates with her I generally get at a three player table. It seems like a lot. Especially once you start rolling with Eon Chart 4, a free action to investigate twice and move.
I think you play mostly 2 or maybe 3 player? Ursula is far stronger in lower player counts and in my experience really falls off when the locations have more clues and you aren't bouncing around as quickly. I've also found her weakness to be pretty annoying, 2 horror plus shuffle it in is pretty bad, but again that is in 4 player. I am a Joe Diamond stan and it hurts my heart that you have him two tiers below Ursula. Big hand Farsight pure cluever Joe gets a comparable amount of clues to Ursula, is far more mythos resilient and provides way more team support. Justice for Joe! He must be freed from the shackles of trap flex decks. On the decklist, I am happy to see Fieldwork missing as I have always thought that card was overrated. Do you really need two mouse masks though? It seems like a cheeky one off rather than a staple to me, and with all of your draw you should still be able to find it pretty quickly most of the time.
I think you could absolutely cut a Mouse Mask, and I probably would consider cutting it once I was adding in Cryptic Researches. It's just such a great tool for mythos resilience that I don't like settling for "I'll find it later" the way I often do with less core proactive tools.
For Ursula's weakness the trick is to just keep it in play all the time and keep moving and investigating. If you're doing what Ursula is supposed to be doing then it's really no tempo hit at all.
I say this with absolute love of your channel, decks, and your optimization mindset, so please take this as just constructive criticism of these specific videos not trolling or hate. These videos are just a weeee but too long. The first third of the video you are spending a little too much time on the investigator card/signatures and the last third is just commentary from you. The real meat of the video I love is the middle third. You explain the rationale of the deck, the reasons it works, the upgrade paths, and your reasons you pick the cards you did. If you just shortened the 1st and 3rd portion of the video, it wouldn't be so much rambling (as you've said in some of your videos time and time again). Again, I LOVE these deck builds and the way your mind works on how to approach each investigator, so please keep at it.
Ursula is the reason Runic axe doesn't start as a relic. They had to pre-nerf it because a seeker with the axe was too powerful a strategy and completely unbalanced the game. This is not sarcasm btw. 😗
I like Ursula and am glad she is getting the recognition she deserves by being in A tier. It would be craaaaazy if you eventually put her in B tier
That would be WILD. Who would do such a thing?

Ursula should be able to just buy it at 1 XP.
Ursula can take Runic Axe as long as she buys the Heirloom upgrade at the same time.
