Shaking my head in amazement as the great rock/blues musicians age and are undeniable masters of their trades 40 years after proving how brilliant were at Fillmore East.
The dealer sits alone in the dark Cigarette shines on his very last card Everything he had... Watched it come and go On a gambler's roll Cold wind blows a young girl's world apart She bet it all she bet it all on the jack of hearts Gained her freedom but lost her soul On a gambler's roll On a gambler's roll You know the gambler he rides... Rides on a fools train Ah tradin' silver for gold Oh but his luck will change... Time takes it's toll On a gambler's roll The dealer knows... It's just about his last game Not even she knows all the sorrow and pain As the forty-five deals the fatal blow On a gamblers roll... On a gamblers roll You know the gambler he rides... Rides on a fools train Tradin' silver for gold Ah but his luck will change... Time takes it's toll On a gambler's roll... On a gambler's roll On a gambler's roll... On a gamblers roll On a gamblers... Gambler's roll
Clearly the ABB's legacy would have been better sealed at 40 years. The final five years only diminished the band's standing as a live group. If the band was up, probably Gregg was down. If Gregg was feeling better the guys wouldn't know until the day of the show or maybe a little earlier. How do you prepare for Gregg being this SLUGGISH? I just think the 40 year anniversary would have been the best time to go out. Just consider the final five years and weigh the good against the weaker. The longer the band went on the more it stressed out Warren and Derek. They had given enough. There were simply too many years of the band carrying Gregg Allman. Gregg could have continued as a solo artist, and he was doing that. Why not exit the band gracefully? Why not end the band with Gregg being strong?

sad to see for sure but nice to watch Derek keeping a gentle eye on Gregg
