Decorah North Eagles ~ The Nest Platform & Branch Break Off & Fall To Ground w/ A Loud Crash 6.26.24

- This morning at 05:03am, the nest platform and the branch it was attached to, cracked off and fell to the ground. You can hear the creaking of the branch as it was starting to break off before it actually fell (00:48). The sound was very loud when it came crashing down - thankfully DN17 & DN18 were not on that platform or in the nest tree.
Later in the morning we see the sunrise coming up and then we find DNF and DN18 in a tree - followed by both DN17 & DN18 seen perched. These eaglets are very resilient - they recover quickly from all these losses & difficulties as they now have lost the last vestige of their natal nest. Thank you for watching!

Every year a pair of eagles will add up to 100 pounds of sticks and nesting materials to a nest. Some nests can weigh 1000 pounds. The middle eventually break down and turn into compost and can rot the tree the nestvis in. If that one was in a Cottonwood which is more of a softer wood then its possible the limb rotted where it met the trunk. Its sad but thankfully none of that little family was injured or killed. They will rebuild

Well no more homestead for previous eaglets to return to!
I am so grateful it happened when they weren't on it. I thought it looked different today... They had been eating right by that break for a few days and they liked roosting on the pallet. They have done so well and their parents are amazing ❤
Wow that was really loud. Hopefully they will rebuild nearby so a new cam can be placed. Thankfully they were old enough to fledge when this gave out

Wow so many nests have fallen this season. In my opinion as an observer not an expert, it seems the nests that have cameras which means the nest is likely accessible should be checked during the off season to make sure that it's sturdy and in good condition and free from things such as trash, line,hooks, etc

Well, all is gone now😢 DNF and Mr North will have to find new place and build new nest ❤🦅 It's a pity for us viwers unfortunately 😔 We may not be able to see them here next season 😮🙏 But the most important for now is that all family is fine and thriving and we can admire their presence around still ❤😊🙏 🌿🍀 Tysm dear Lady Hawk for this update 🤗💐💕🥰 🐝☘️

The eagles are all right, and that's all that matters. I'm glad no one was in that tree, but it's kind of rough on everyone since they don't have a home base right now. I wonder if the parents will rebuild in that territory or move on once D18 and D17 leave.

Is this nest near a bike trail? My daughter is an avid biker (bicycle, not motor) and she has told me about an eagle nest on a trail she rides now and then. She keeps trying to get me to go on a ride with her, but it has been a good decade since I have been on my bicycle, LOL!
