Malone was a much more well rounded player. Making NBA 1st all defensive team while also contending for scoring titles is insane. Also having as long and consistent careers as Malone and Stockton had is no coincidence. It takes so much work on and off the court year after year especially in-between NBA seasons. It’s such an undervalued trait when comparing players like this.

Charles numbers in the original Dream Team are even better than Jordan's. Does it mean he's better than His Airness? Of course not. Because it's not supposed to be taken seriously like you fools do.

It’s got to be Malone. Barkley was more versatile with his ball-handling ability, but Malone was the better defender and was a more disciplined basketball player. Barkley’s biggest weakness was that he wasn’t a good 3-point shooter but he had a habit of jacking them up. And again, you can’t ignore the defensive side, basketball is equally a two-way game. One guy made several All-Defensive teams and one guy didn’t make any.
Yes, I finally had a suggestion made into video and it's by the best basketball RUclipsr out there! Keep it up Jonny, I genuinely get excited whenever you bring out a new video.
Barkley was undoubtedly the more talented player. His power, dexterity and footwork in the low post was just uncanny. He could shoot and handle the ball. But... I don't think he ever became the player he could have been. If he had been as committed to conditioning like Karl Malone he could have rivalled Jordan.
*Barkley, for just the fact he was really only 6'4 and dominating the entire court. Especially his inside game, in which he backed down "any player, including Karl Malone. Skill of difficulty level, and as the author showed, "his efficiency" is what gives the nod to Barkley. Also another key realty. Malone had "The Great" John Stockton feeding him his entire career!!! Barkley didn't!!!*
I take Karl over Barkley due to his better defense and scoring. I do though understand that Barkley’s efficiency and rebounding give him a advantages but the difference in efficiency and rebounding is not enough of a difference to drown out the difference of Karl’s scoring and defense.
You're absolutely right Jonny! Karl did benefit from playing with Stockton. Barkley was the better rebounder, the better ball handler, the better passer. And even though the numbers don't show it. Barkley was a better and more diverse scorer.
No. Barkley scorer more in transition. Meanwhile Malone was more of a low post threat that could shoot better. Malone was the better iso scorer. And defensively Malone is a lot better and Malone was no slouch on the boards either he is 7th all time in rebounds and 2nd in points.

like it was mentioned in the vid, having stockton was HUGE.... BUT: Utah didn't have anyone else... they were decent team, but not great besides stock and malone. @@urwholefamilydied I respectfully disagree. You can’t separate the fact that Stock enters most GOAT point guard conversations in the first ten seconds. Who’s better all time? The Logo, Pistol Pete, maybe Magic? I love the Glove but I’d be flat out lying if I said Payton was better than Stockton. As for them being alone on the Jazz... Jeff Hornacek? Bryon Russell? Raja Bell? Even the much maligned Greg Ostertag was a straight beast on defense. They were the second best team in the league over the 1990s, better than the Spurs, the Lake show, and my Sonics. Only the Bulls were better during their run. It boggles the mind that they didn’t win banners. All Sloan really needed Mailman to do in his scheme was score. I always felt that if Malone kicked it out to those capable wing guys a little more often instead of always crashing into traffic to whine for fouls, there’d probably be a banner or two in the Salt Palace rafters. To be fair, though, if I had Malone’s build and shot about 90% from the charity stripe, I’d be tempted to pad my stats by playing for fouls, too.

@Nick jaramillo that’s funny Karl Malone isn’t even better than Dirk and KG the list goes Tim Duncan, Dirk, KG, Barkley then Malone. Malone is really close to beating Barkley but Barkley is just more skilled than Malone and in my opinion AD might pass Malone as the 5th best power forward at the end of his career
@Nick jaramillo lol you must be new to basketball Karl Malone is barley top 5 for power forwards Barkley is close to being better than Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki whereas Malone is weaker and less skilled than Barkley and Anthony Davis, Malone in a few years won’t even be top 5 or maybe even 6 in power forwards
Barkley played with 2 of the greatest PGs of all time, Mo Cheeks, his first five seasons and Kevin Johnson for 4 seasons in Phoenix. Malone was more a product of Jerry Sloan's system. That is why I would take Barkley over Malone, but it is really close.
Def close, but Barkley was more than just a PF. He could go coast to coast and had a lot better ball handling skills. in their prime, Barkley was the better player, but Malone was better when they were in their 30s.
It's Malone by about 12,000 points. Malone kept getting better and improving his skillet and range and his passing, even after he played below the rim his numbers were constantly great. He developed a nice hook shot that is never discussed, he could shoot it with both hands too.
Late 80s Barkley was something to see. People forget that Chuck led the league in dunks 3 years in a row. Not Dominiqe, Not Jordan. He was also screwed out of the 1990 MVP. From about '87 to '94, Barkley was the second best basketball player in the world. We will never see another like him
Chuck was better in his prime in regards to efficiency, rebounding, explosiveness and overall ball skills, but I give it to Malone as far as having a productive longer career.
Peak vs Peak, I do agree Barkley was a better player. When Malone won his MVPs, they weren't exactly on their primes even though it actually speaks volume how great the player of their eras were when Michael Jordan and Karl Malone out of their absolute prime were still better than all of the other young guns. Since Malone won in 99 at age 35, with the exception of Nash (at 30 and 31), every MVPs have been under 30 years old.
another great video my brother. thank you very much. I would definitely agree with you about Barkley being a better player. he was always my favorite power forward during the time he played.
You nailed it. Malone better career, Barkley better player. Something you didn't mention was ball handling. Barkley was an amazing ball handler. He could go coast to coast.
At his best Charles was probably more dominant, but Malone was more consistent, played at an elite level for longer, was superior defensively, and ultimately had the better overall career.
If I were drafting one of them today I would take Malone. I like his size, conditioning and longevity. He was a better defender and their offences were too close to call.
Karl Malone was similar to Lebron James during his 1st stint in Cleveland. Only difference was LeBron was an exceptional playmaker and Karl Malone had a strong mid-range jumper.
I would agree based on one thing and that is understanding your weakness and either making it better or just stop attempting to do something you are not capable of and that is shooting 3s. Malone shot them so rarely because he knew he was not reliable at it. Barkley shot them consistently and he knew he was no good. If Barkley could have just accepted that he was not a 3 point shooter and drove to the hoop he would have likely been the better of the 2 in terms of scoring. The other consideration is the defense. Karl was better on D in an era when players actually played some defense.
you are only half right....Barkley started 4 of the 8 games while Malone started the other 4.....the only player who started all 8 games in 92 was Jordan
Haven't you considered that if it was not for Malone, maybe John Stockton would have less assists. I'd say that Malone is a better scorer and defender. Barkley is slightly better rebounder (especially on offence). My choice is Malone.

Hey Johnny..thanks for this video...Sir Charles is my favourite player...was waiting for this video.
One of the most said phrase by commentators back then was: Stockton to Maloneee..... Stockton played a big role making Malone a scorer. Barkley... He was top scorer in Dream Team I, and Dream Team II. Imagine that.
He was inferior to the Jazz main man in all categories.Nobody takes the Dream team numbers seriously. We all know Jordan was the best out there.
@@ubeman401 Put Charles in Jazz and Malone in Philapelphia or Phenix that time. Or, switch Stockton with Maurice Cheeks (Phil) or Kevin Johnson (Phoe). What will happen? As I mentioned, Malone enjoyed easy buckets from Stockton's assist, yet Barkley's FG% is higher than Malaone.
Malone would have 5 scoring titles if he didn't play in the MJ era. Wow!
Yeah but that would be because Stockton is there.

It's crazy that I ran Barkley's Suns with Stockton in the place of Johnson against Michael's '96 Bulls just two days before this.
On 2k? What was the result?
Yup. In a 7 game series, the Suns took it in 6. Barkley averaged 34 points, Stock averaged 12 assists

No way
Hey jonny i think you made a mistake when you said that malone made 2 trips to the finals, he actually made another one in 2004, when the lakers lost to the pistons..

@@jonnyarnett Super excited for the next vid bro! ik that youve made videos on each of those legends, so itll be interesting to see how they compare vs each other. Especially Hakeem Vs Shaq.
I all ways thought Charles Barkley was a small forward that played like a power forward. Small forwards use to go up to 6.7 height. You may label him as a badazz two guard and not be wrong.
Barkley was a beast, an amazing player at just 193cm (that is crazy!!!!!!!)
1:95 mt so 6´4 and 5/8 ft
Sir Charles is my favorite player.
You forgot to mention he was the Dream Teams leading scorer in ‘92 and I believe in ‘96 as well.
Charles numbers in the original Dream Team are even better than Jordan's. Does it mean he's better than His Airness? Of course not.
Because it's not supposed to be taken seriously like you fools do.
Love both of these guys. Both super dominant as hell. I have to say Karl should win this one. You would honestly take him everyday of the week and twice on Sunday if you had the opportunity.
Definitely rolling with the Chuckster! 👏🏾👏🏾
Great video. My knee-jerk reaction when you started this series was skepticism, because these kinds of bar conversations always end in pointless sniping. But of course, you brought a ton of research and effort and make videos as good as always. Thanks!
My only issue with this video isn't even about Barkley or Malone. You call Stockton, "*one of* the greatest facilitators of all time" . . . and that's an insult to Stockton, because no one else is even close to him. Magic and IT were amazing, and probably better overall players, but as *facilitators* alone, it's not close ;)
I got Charles. Both awesome. 2 best 4s of their time.
They’ll both be remembered best as 2 of the greatest ringless players to ever live
You left out Karl Malone's greatest weapon: Those elbows.
Real talk...I remember when he cut Zeek in the first half of a game, he went to the locker room and got stitches and came back out and finished the game like g.
Who can forget David Robinsón falling flat on his face after an elbow from Malone. This dude could have killed some one. Good times!
@@rafalizola 40 Stiches to Isiah Thomas (couldn't have happened to a nicer guy) was definitely his most brutal, but that KO on Robinson was definitely a strong Number 2.
I remember when Malone knocked out the Suns PG "Socks" Elliott Perry (because he was one of the few to wear knee high socks during the 90's in his NBA career, also remember Walt Williams too) with those elbows.
I remember the Rodman vs Malone battles.
I'd take either. Both were awesome.Just a reminder that the Mailman is the 2nd leading scorer of all time in NBA history to this date.Thats over MJ,the great Kobe and the late great Wilt.
I love Barkley and they keep saying he was actually shorter but when I see pictures of him next to Jordan they appear to be the same height. I also love Malone. But Stockton was my favorite.
Barkley was shorter he was listed at 6 feet 7 he was 6 feet 4 tops
@@bronxbully6261 yeah I hear people saying that but I believe he said he was/is 6’6” and in pictures next to Jordan they seem the same height. I think the bigger issue or advantage is wingspan. Karl Malone is a monster!! 💀
I think it’s without a doubt The Round Mound of Rebound. But I’ve been wrong before
Barkley was undoubtedly the more talented player.
Never was quite sure about where I land between these two. So this video was perfect for me! Thanks for another great video!
Finally been waiting for the update ! Great vid Johhny your the goat
I take Karl over Barkley due to his better defense and scoring. I do though understand that Barkley’s efficiency and rebounding give him a advantages but the difference in efficiency and rebounding is not enough of a difference to drown out the difference of Karl’s scoring and defense.
I’m not gonna lie, I prefer Malone
Me too. He was/is my all time favorite PF. But Barkley was also exciting to watch.
thanks for your honesty
You're absolutely right Jonny! Karl did benefit from playing with Stockton. Barkley was the better rebounder, the better ball handler, the better passer. And even though the numbers don't show it. Barkley was a better and more diverse scorer.
No. Barkley scorer more in transition. Meanwhile Malone was more of a low post threat that could shoot better. Malone was the better iso scorer. And defensively Malone is a lot better and Malone was no slouch on the boards either he is 7th all time in rebounds and 2nd in points.
@@stayofftheweeeeeeed7249 In his Philadelphia year, Barkley scored a lot in Transition. In Phoenix and Houston, Barkley main scoring place was in the post with his back to the basket. As well as taking and making his free throws. Unlike Malone.
Overall Karl was much better than Charles. It is what it is. Just swallowed it.
@@ubeman401 He's not lol, Charles did better with what he had than Malone with Stockton, even in the 92 Dream Team Practice Sessions Malone got Cooked by Charles.
The fact that Charles was only a "Transition Threat" and Malone's a better shooter and post threat is purely false, there's a reason why the Charles Barkley Rule was made, he was such a strong ass threat down in the paint and was practically unguardible, could move people like Shaq, Malone himself and even Rodman back.
Barkley *thought* he was a clutch 3-point threat, i wonder why none of his coaches instructed him not to hurl up treys at 29% per
Sir Charles, no question. Give him 13 years of nonstop Stockton dishes in the paint like Mailman got and Wilt would have been sweating at the end.
like it was mentioned in the vid, having stockton was HUGE.... BUT: Utah didn't have anyone else... they were decent team, but not great besides stock and malone. Basically you knew to guard Malone or even double team malone the entire game. If I had to put a team together and in the end could only pick Barkley or Malone... no way I'm not picking Karl Malone.
@@leebrunk4390 very succinct reply... I'm not even a huge sports guy... but I always defend the Jazz because I was born in Utah (moved to michigan) and always followed them. I was heartbroken when they didn't defeat the bulls. So yeah.. a Jazz fan trying to make excuses. Utah had a great team in the mid/late 90's. I can't argue that (although I embarrassingly tried to). They had the misfortune of being at their best in Jordan's prime. And stock didn't play great that series. Oh well. Just hate when Stock and Malone are sort of put aside as no-ring-wearing-mormon-land-dorky-short-shorts-don't deserve to be in the top 5-morman again-second rate-no excuse for a... blah blah blah. No respect for two of the greats. some respect.
Look at Charles on those fast breaks in Philly, grabbing the rebound and going coast to coast with a dunk epic.
Even though it’s really close I feel Charles Barkley is the better player
Me too 💯 Its Sir Charles if u ask me 💯💯
This comparison sucks because of Stockton. On paper and on video Malone is better. I just love Barkley so much tho and he's more impressive given his versatility and size. Plus no Stockton.
@Nick jaramillo and Karl Malone wouldn’t be even considered for top 5 right now if it wasn’t for Stockton
Props for shouting out K.J
He gets lost in the sauce.
K.J was nice as hell.
It's Malone by about 12,000 points. Malone kept getting better and improving his skillet and range and his passing, even after he played below the rim his numbers were constantly great. He developed a nice hook shot that is never discussed, he could shoot it with both hands too.
He played with one of the best point guards of all time. Barkley didn’t nearly have the service for as long.
Ideas KG vs Duncan. Iverson vs Wade. Allen vs Miller. Deron vs Paul. And Moses Malone vs Hakeem
If you add the eye test, Barkley win that more easily. Watching him play was breathtaking, was unique.
Barkley was an uncontrolled beast and nothing breathtaking there. Malone was more of a calculating beast.

Late 80s Barkley was something to see. People forget that Chuck led the league in dunks 3 years in a row. Not Dominiqe, Not Jordan. He was also screwed out of the 1990 MVP. From about '87 to '94, Barkley was the second best basketball player in the world. We will never see another like him
Malone maybe Barkley was a better player when at his best but overall Malone has more accomplishments so there for I give it to him
Gotta be the Mailman, as much as I love Chuck.
Chuck was better in his prime in regards to efficiency, rebounding, explosiveness and overall ball skills, but I give it to Malone as far as having a productive longer career.
BARKLEY AND MALONE ARE TWO GREAT PLAYERS.
IT IS SO VERY DIFFICULT TO COMPARE THEM.
James Harden said: What if I take as many 3-Point shots is Charles Barkley.... BUT MAKE MOST OF THEM.
This was great! Can we get Dirk vs KG next?

Karl Malone was similar to Lebron James during his 1st stint in Cleveland. Only difference was LeBron was an exceptional playmaker and Karl Malone had a strong mid-range jumper.
It’s funny that you picked Barkley because watching this video convinced me that Malone was the better player 😂
Exactly. Malone was a better player.
