    I don't trust drywall anchors, at all. If I can't secure it with a screw into a wall stud, I won't secure anything heavy to the wall. I have even removed drywall, installed wood framing and replaced the drywall in order to hang a heavy flatscreen. It was a little work, but I know without a doubt that the tv won't be coming down, even in an earthquake situation. I am very sorry you had to learn this the hard way- such a beautiful guitar.

      Buy a 2x8 in what length you need. If you can’t find a nice piece of walnut, mahogany etc. Go to your local lumber yard & buy douglas fir. Use a router on the edges or whatever look your going for & then stain & varnish it. Screw or lag bolt to studs & then hang the wall hangers on the wood.
      This is not rocket science, everyone can do this.

    • @fistovuzi
      @fistovuzi 20 дней назад +2

      @@gregorioh7034 this will greatly reduce the chances of a guitar hanger pulling from the wall.
      and introduces the chance that the entire fucking row is going to fall in one go. every guitar you hang from that 2x8 adds more weight pulling on it.
      the individual hangers have a weight rating, we know what they can hold. what's the rating on that 2x8? yeah, it doesn't have one.
      if my guitars are out of their cases, they're stored on multi stands, on the floor, against the wall. it doesn't make them safe from damage. it DOES make them safe from dropping 6 feet onto the floor. the odds of that happening is precisely 0%.

    Push-in anchors are light duty. You need an anchor that goes through the whole thickness of the drywall then butterflies open on the other side. I was manager of a glass business for years, and we mounted lots of heavy mirror using through anchors without a problem. Hanger base plates should be horizonal not vertical. Mounted vertically all the weight and stress is being levered into the top screw.

    I’m a builder/carpenter. Never ever hang a guitar using ‘drywall anchors’! Always hit a wall stud or run long timber strips fixed to wall studs then mount Hercules on them. Redo that wall before everything falls

  • @zz-.-
    @zz-.- 19 дней назад +1

    Timely! I use those same Hercules hangers and am in the midst of remaking my music room and deciding what mix of hangers, multi hangers, and floor racks I want to use. I’ve always been concerned about this and am leaning towards majority on a floor rack vs hanging. I realize all we have to do is find studs and do it right, but still just for peace of mind I’m leaning towards floor racks. What a fall and of all the guitars too, this is one in particular you obviously hate to see fall. Glad it held up well!

    Guitar is looking amazing! Awesome that you were so inspired by the event with the guitar back to record something! Sounds good!
    As others have said, it's a lot safer to get a peice of wood you like the look of, get it finished, and secure that to the studs in the wall, then you secure the hangars into that.
    I'm not sure of the construction of your place. Is it "stick framed" like the US? If not, you'll need to use appropriate securing methods to the wall structure instead. In Germany we lived in a place where the walls were all standstone, so we had to drill and use stone anchors for things.
    If your walls are concrete, that might explain what happened with the anchors, they were put in but could not get deep enough or expand and just hit the wall weaking the drywall in the process.

    Happy to hear your repairs worked well.
    I tend to relax once a new guitar has its 1st ding. Then I know it is mine. I care more about how they play and sound than if they look perfect. I don't own case queens. I bought a vintage 1972 Aria Pro II MIJ TA70 guitar with a broken headstock repair that was not pretty but was solid, smooth to the hand and played and sounded great. Player grade so a great price. It is one of the best sounding humbucker instruments I have, wife likes it's sound better than ALL my other 'lectrics with factory DiMarzio Hot Rails IIRC. It is a better instrument than my 2014 ES335.
    A nice piece of hardwood anchored to the studs. then mount guitar holders to that. Rock solid.
    I have 18 hooks ( the limiting # for my allowed guitar herd) in a 10x10ft (3x3m) room but there is solid wood behind the drywall as it was an addition between the house and a garage so I did not need to do that in this house. 75mm long screws into that solid wall.
    With your herd I can see why you have a spreadsheet on them.

    • @ministryofguitar
      @ministryofguitar  21 день назад

    These accidents may happen to all of us. Happened also to me: I dropped (it fell from the wall like yours, I am a bad handyman) a Harley Benton LP-type I bought second hand for about 100 bucks. No big deal. Cheap repairs could be done. But this is one reason (there are many others, especially economic ones) I don't buy expensive guitars.
    You are lucky, that nothing happened to the strings! lol And of course to the dog. I am an animal lover too, having two cats and two dogs. They always disappear when I play. Well, they can't understand what hell of a player I am. I still love them though. Greetings from Austria! And take care of yourself, your dog and your nice guitars! Like your videos!

  • @FullumMusic
    @FullumMusic 20 дней назад

    As others have probably said, wall anchors into drywall/sheetrock shouldn't be trusted. The guitar hanger should go into a wall stud only. Personally, i keep all my basses on floor racks because even with proper installation into a stud, i don't trust wall-mounts. I have a K&M 17525 Guardian for most of my "regular" basses, and my really nice basses go on Zither Instrument Stands. The K&M is the first multi-rack that i've ever used that securely holds multiple instruments without letting them hit one another and doesn't discolor the finish. And the Zither stands are gorgeous self-standing wood stands that really make showing the instrument a statement.
    If you are going to use wall hangers and there aren't enough studs, install cross-studs across your wall. That cross-studs need to be mounted into the studs in the wall, and then the guitar racks go into the cross stud.
    So glad this wasn't more disastrous for you than it was! It could have been so much worse!

    I live in Canada. I have about 8 guitars and that's all I really need. They are Gibsons and Strats and a tele and a Martin D41 custom shop. I honestly think you have too many guitars. I know you obviously can afford them but I think it's best to love a select few. Even rock stars like Joe Bonamassa. He owns every expensive guitar and amp under the sun. You don't need that many. It's an obsession really. It took me years to get the good quality amos and guitars that I have now and even what I do have, it's hard to play them all to justify having them. When I was young I had only a Martin D18, but that was everything to me. I found our now, that having all these guitars and amps doesn't make me as happy. I do love them, but buying tonnes of pedals doesn't matter really. I have so much stuff I never even use. Thousands of dollars spent for what, just to collect dust now. Have just a few things and enjoy them. I think I was always buying all this stuff to fill a void in myself. Realized one day that none of it mattered as much as when I only owned one Martin . Just some thoughts on gear acquisition.

    You used the wrong drywall anchors. In general you want drywall anchors that are metal and that actually screw into the drywall. They are firmly seated before you drive a screw into them. There are forms of plastic anchors that are better than the ones you used which would have expanded when you drive the screw in there, but I wouldn't recommend those unless you have experience with Building Trades tasks and would like, be able to feel if that thing is biting.

    It’s worthless now. But tell you what!
    I have a single cut 594 SE I’ll trade you for it. Get you a perfect brand new guitar for your garbage. I won’t even charge you.

    In my opinion, it's a sign from the gods that you're no longer worthy of the guitar, and you should send it to me. Should I give you the address?
