    I watched this earlier today, and my brain wasn't ready... 10 p.m., and I get it! Question: Did you have this document already edited for students to type answers in when you made this in Google Slides? I get the Google Slides backgrounds and text boxes. I just need to know if my "interactive" google slides will translate into Canvas. This tutorial was GREAT! Thanks so much.

      Best to use Google Assignments for that. You can integrate it with Canvas. Check external tools.

    I'm curious if this will work for a weekly handout. I use a "viewing handout" for movies. It's the same basic worksheet. If I make separate assignments, I'm curious if Canvas will make separate copies for the students like I need, or if it will simply revert to the first copy they made in the first assignment.

    Thanks for your video. It looks to me like you can see each students assignments within the speedgrader tab? Or do you have to click back and forth? When I tried to do this it says I have to open the student's Google assignment in a new browser window and I don't get to see speedgrader at the same time as the student's assignment.

    Hi there! This was so helpful as a new Canvas user. I have two questions.
    1) Does this work for Google forms? I imagine if I assign this, it will automatically make it so that each student can take it?
    2) If Canvas automatically generates a copy for each student to have, does that mean they will not be able to alter my original copy? I'm wondering because what if I accidentally left it on the share setting where users can edit.

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад

      Hi Jennifer! From my understanding, you should be able to give your students the link to a Google Form and they don't need a copy of it in order to submit their work. You are correct about the automatically generated student copies. I have my Google Slides docs set to "anyone with the link can view." They do not have editing rights to my files, they will have their own copy in their Google Drive that they can edit.

    Thanks for your video! I’m new to Canvas (but a veteran of Google classroom), so I’m wondering if there is a way to easily see how students are progressing in one of these types of assignments (external tool-Google cloud attached documents) like I normally would be able to in Google Classroom. From what I understand of Canvas so far, there isn’t a way to see real time work until the students have clicked submit. Is this correct?

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, I think you may be right about this. I don't think we can see their work until they have submitted it. I will let you know if I find out otherwise.

    • @davidshaffer1696

      I'm new to Canvas as well, but just from clicking around a bit it looks like you can still use the external tool, but select Google Assignments rather than the Google Docs Cloud. Then when you open the page the interface will look like the same grading tool in Google Classroom. I haven't tested it yet, but looks promising.

    • @richardpalmer1967

      @@keepyourchinup2808 No you can’t if you created the assignment using google cloud assignment external tool but you can if you use Google assignments. I think the former tool is being phased out!

    Hi! Thank you for this. Quick Question!!! Is there a way for me to see students' work while they are working on this? Sort of like in Google Classroom, where the documents are accessible even if students don't submit. I teach ESL and I'd like to give them feedback while they are working with the chat feature of Google Slides and Docs. Thanks so much in advance!

    • @keepyourchinup2808

      Yes, in speedgrader you can click on the student's name and then it will show the student's work on Google slides. You can scroll down to view the other pages in the presentation.

    When I created the assignment within Google Classroom, the presentation I used is then shown within my drive twice. One with the original name and the other with template now in front of it. Which one do I link to Canvas?

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад

      If you are assigning it in Canvas, you don't need to assign it in Google Classroom. When you assign in Google Classroom, it will create a template version and a folder with all of your student's work.

    • @keepyourchinup2808

      Hi! There is a little check box under "Submission Type" when you're creating the assignment. Uncheck that, and then the blue link will appear instead of the "load in new tab" button.

    I tried assigning a Google Slides assignment and when the student tries to access it, it says “request access to this document” but my sharing settings are to so that anyone with the link can view. What settings do I need to change so that the students can start working on it directly? Thanks in advance!

    • @deborahpatzold9322
      @deborahpatzold9322 4 года назад

      Change your link view to edit and see if that changes it especially if your settings are open with the link. However you need to make sure it will make a copy for each one like she showed in the video. If you just embed one slide they will all edit the same one.

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад

      @@deborahpatzold9322 Thanks! I was actually unsure of this because when I had mine set to "anyone can view" it worked and all kids got a copy. However, when the settings were "anyone can edit," they all edited the same one.

    • @deborahpatzold9322
      @deborahpatzold9322 4 года назад

      You have to create your picture on a slide as the background and then add boxes so they can interact or move them around, but the editing buttons will still be there so they can 'interact'.

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад

      @@deborahpatzold9322 That's right, the editing buttons in the toolbar at the top will always be in Google Slides. If you import a background, then your students won't be able to move things around.

    • @keepyourchinup2808
      @keepyourchinup2808  4 года назад

      You can manage the settings for the document in Google Drive, not in Canvas. I believe the settings for the document should be set to "View" and not "Edit" otherwise the students will be editing the same document. When you select it for your assignment, then Canvas creates a copy for each student and adds it to their Google Drive.
