An interesting point, but that raises the question,
How do whe know about the tentacles of Ammonites?
It's less common, but sometimes Soft-tissue leaves a fossile as well, it's just much rarer for those perfect conditions to happen.

FUCKING HATE when people make fun off T-Rex's arms. They are not weak and they are not short, they could lift 400lbs. There is also a theory saying that Tyrannosaurs evolved to have shorter arms, so they wouldn't get bitten off by rivals. All Tyrannosaurs were ABSOLUTE UNITS! Especially T-Rex

Hey dude, just found your channel and I wanna say this, I myself LOVE dinosaurs, and more recently I've become obsessed with the crocodilians, I know they don't count as dinosaurs, but they were there when the dinosaurs lived, so it's basically the same concept. Knowing me, I might go deeper into animals that made it into the modern era after millions of years. So, before I go on to watch the rest of your video, my thoughts are, gonna be biased against certain dinosaurs, but also loving learning more about the dinosaurs that I haven't heard or knew much about.
T-Rex arms - I'm currently developing a character that turns into a dinosaur. So, about the arms, even though they were puny, they were FAR from weak, they were most likely used for pushing the animals' weight off the ground, which makes sense since they were the heaviest carnivore during the cretaceous period. So, t-rex had arms like that of a body builder. Yeah, a T-rex's arms were nothing to sneeze at, they can bench press you further than you ever will.

I have a few theories on what the arms were used for:
1: to possibly give it a tighter turn while running. It's no secret now that dinosaurs had feathers. I think they had feathers on there arms that acted as guiding wings. So while chasing prey, they would stick there arms out to the side to help make quick turns while hunting.
2: perhaps they used there arms/arm feathers as a display during mating/territorial disputes. Same as how some birds will flash there wings to appear bigger and threatening.

    • @waywardartsnfarts
      @waywardartsnfarts 2 года назад +1

Possibly but not on trex, there’s a lot of data pointing to them having little to no feathering at all. Along side most reconstructions of feathering for dinosaurs being inaccurate as well, such as having wing like feathers on the arms and wide plumage on the tails.

Yea I think it must be a combination of all the uses mentioned in the video, otherwise they would have just lost use of their arms like Abelisaurids such as Carnotaurus did. Personally I think the laying down, holding while mating, and hunting while young (before adulthood) are the uses and reasons for them having tiny developed arms like that

I have a theory well two to be precise.
First is that not only did it use the arms for mating but they were also useful for grooming and cleaning its eyes this is a predator that use its head quite often for combat after all.
Second theory is that perhaps arms were only necessary during the early stages of their lives but didn’t grow much as they matured and did not need them much. The skeletal structure of young tyrannosaurus are after all quite similar to that of other lighter built theropods and they were much faster runners than adult tyrannosaurs.

T-rex runs up on prey, slashes repeatedly with puny arms, then jumps back to avoid a fight.
Infection, possibly even venom from the claws, would kill the largest of animals; sexy-t-rexy wouldn't have to fight for every meal.
All he has to do is track the smell of the infected wound...
All T-rex claws found have deep grooves running their length; from the nail-bed to the tip. A venom channel?
Many venomous snakes today that have grooves on the surface of their fangs, rather than hollow 'needle' teeth.
Ghila monsters have venomous saliva, feeble claws and blunt teeth, but they hunt very effectively.

I believe the arms could have been only for the younger stages if the T-rex's lifespan like standing up, attacking smaller creatures, or even maybe climbing. These would stay small in proportion when growing in favor of the development for the head and legs.

We can look at the wear and tear of muscle attachments and bone structure, but zero soft tissue has survived the 100 million or so years.
Heck, not even the bones survived. What we see are imprints in the rock that surrounded the bone.
So we can make educated guesses and try to use new evidence to debunk older guesses or come up with new ones (as the video discussed, just because you found a new use doesn't mean the old theory isn't also true).
But to know for absolutely sure, we would need a time machine.
If you think it's unsatisfying that we can't get a definitive answer, I'm sorry, but I'm going to make you more uncomfortable: We've only found fossils of an estimated 0.5% of all species that lived during those periods.
Fossilisation is extremely rare and only happen in the exact right conditions, and are only preserved under the right conditions, which is why we keep finding new bones to already discovered dinosaurs all the time, but very rarely find a new species. We don't have enough information to even guess how the majority of the wildlife looked like back then.

I’ve often wondered, with all the species that paleontology has come up with for dinosaurs, some apparently based on a single skeleton, I wonder if the number of species is actually far smaller, and the skeletons are of the same type of animal, but at different life stages. I’ve heard that about the ceratopsians, that some people have wondered if they’re the same species, just further along or dying early. That might have been disproven, though
