a little trick i used to use when setting glass panels was to cut some pieces of electric wire cable with good insulation, cut into a inch or two in length or to what ever is needed, bury it into the sealant around the glass and this acts as a good spacer and also prevents all the sealant oozing out or being forced out under pressure or just through the weight of the glass - great job on the prisms and butterfly sky light, looks magical - love you guys

It must be SO tempting to crash on now you are getting closer and closer to being in the water. I have so much respect for both of you with your meticulous approach and support for each other. Yes, I understand how exhausting it must be, however look forward to the rewards of hopefully the rest of a lifetime enjoying the boat with the understanding that the time you have taken will contribute to less problems in the future. In other words, you done it, you done it right, therefore you understand how it is built, making it easier to maintain. A lot of words, meaning, good luck, well done, enjoy the fruits of your labours.

hi, as usual a very good video and information, but a suggestion (please excuse me if you already know it) rather than using handheld Square to judge the "squareness" in two planes an old mechanical fitter practice is to drill a guide hole through a square block using a drill press. Then using the block to guide the drill through the surface that you are drilling through. So point form; 1) the block can be any material, size, or thickness that suits the drill you are using, 2) pressing the block against the surface automatically gives 90 degrees alignment in two planes (presuming the drill press was good). Use recommendations are to drill a shallow pilot hole to position the drill bit and if possible clamp the block in place using the pilot hole as a location. If the block is made out of suitable material it can be used multiple times, like when fitting stanchions. Again thank you for the effort and content in your channel. bye Duncan

    Maya and Aladino,
There are several refits and builds going on on RUclips, however..........your refit is, like Leo Sampson's Tally Ho, a work of art. It helps to have a "Swiss" perfectionist at the helm and an "Artiste" as his helpmate. Together, with the input and help from Maya's father (and a host of others), Magic Carpet II is not only a physical and mechanicaly perfect example of quality workmanship and attention......a LOT of attention......to detail, but you have the most pleasing, estheticaly beautiful vessle that we all really enjoy watching her come together. Aladino is an amazing craftsman who doesn't let one little element hinder his progress. And Maya......not only have you demonstrated to us your ability to grasp the "bull by the horns" and dive right in and help, even though at times, it was such an overwhelming trek for you, a beautiful musician, who had to endure the mundane in sanding and varnishing....(very monotonous tasks that try my patience also) wondering when you will ever be done. But the end results is a vessle that will give you both years of pleasing travel in a beautiful boat. All the sweat, toil and effort that you both have expended in the refit will soon be a thing of the past, knowing that soon, you both will be enjoying the fruits of so much labor. We have seen the other side of the coin with work that was not near the quality of your work. Your efforts are stunning. Bravo, Bravo Bravo. We all cannot wait to see this beautiful craft back in the water and you both sailing off to new adventures with Magic Carpet II.And a special shout out to Maya's selection of music to accompany the videos. Having a violinist in my family, I really, really enjoy you playing for us, Maya. Such beautiful, soothing and inspiring music.

Completely understand what you say about some people being absolutely vehement in their head choice! Personally on my barge the best idea for me was a macerator and holding tank because I can pump out regularly and also I'm fitting a "purge" valve via a through hull so I can (if the situation ever presented and I was out offshore) I can empty the entire tank.
You're right calling them desiccating toilets rather than composting toilets. One of the biggest issues with them is people just binning their 2s and on the canals in the UK that has become a bit of a problem. My neighbour has a composting toilet and she keeps all the 2s in storage containers in her engine room until they're just a fine soil-like powder but you need the storage for that.
The correct choice is your own choice! ☺️

“Anyone who gets too excited about a head on a boat is not to be trusted”. Too funny. I am not “too excited” about the Nature’s Head we have used for 14 years. But I can say that on balance, the few minor cons do not compare to the problems we had with standard head/holding tank arrangements we had before. I am very excited about those bronze chainplates though. Sail-on!

We have been using the Airhead toilet on our boat for the last 4 years. We are cruising and living on the boat. Our previous boat had holding tanks. I would never go back to that. There is NO smell and we empty the solids one a month. We love it! Not having to look for a pump out station all the time. Pee bucket gets emptied every 2 or three day. You will live the Airhead. No nasty “ boat smell” anymore.

I hope you like the desicating toilet. On my little 22' trimaran I got rid of the portable toilet which was always a problem- smelly after one day, no place to dump it in the FL Keys or Bahamas. I made a desicating toilet with a urine separator- a 5 gal bucket, the urine diverter and a lid that fit the bucket. I use coconut coir for the medium. What a difference. There is no smell even without a sealing lid or a fan. It last at least 5 days with two people. Just pull the bag out and store it in a heavy yard bag until there is a place to put it in the trash.
I've mentioned before but the attention to detail is amazing. You are going to have the finest, refitted boat in the world!

A couple of channels had done a hybrid install where they created a small holding tank and ran the “number 1” directly to the tank. We find the best answer is both a composting toilet and normal holding tank. You will need two urine tanks as one fills up, you can get caught short will a full tanks. The solids part is great no smell and it looks like normal soil. Composting toilets are great for boat yard and marina use. A little inconvenient emptying the urine tank every three to four days for two people but when you are offshore we switch to holding tank which can be pumped overboard (3nm of shore something like that.)which is more convenient than trying to empty a urine tank overboard on a moving boat.

I think you will like your composting marine head. We have had several boats, and each one we have retrofitted to a marine head. We chose a “Natures head”, but I believe the “Air Head” is much the same. The operation is simple and easy to explain to guests. No more clogged valves and tanks and smelly hoses. Just vent your head per manufactures instructions, and you will have a trouble free experience. Cheers!

O wow, certainly would like to see your boat in open land as well as in open Pacific where no one near to you for thousand and thousand of miles🙃

I think your head will work fine. No changing crap lines or crap pumps or crap tanks.

It’s good to see both in a much better place in yourselves. If you have time Maya could you indulge us with more of your music. After the shed comes down, should you not have some time out to re-nourish mind sprit and soul. Watching Sailing Magic Carpet, genuinely makes me smile, I find myself verbally expressing wonder at the quality and finish of your work, your decision making skills, project management and production quality. Much love.

PS- keep your medium wet but not sloppy and turn regularly, it takes a bit of time for the 'bugs' to get established.

Nice to see her looking so good and to se you both looking a little calmer and relaxed. On a different note entirely, I think you should consider doing an entire episode about your dad, his life and adventures and influence on both of you. I bet he has some stories to tell and you should get them on tape while you still can. I remember having a favorite uncle I always wanted to get on tape who had fabulous stories to tell, an alas I never did.
