A collection of short videos created whilst working on my BMW F650 GS, Monster, last year. #BMWF650GS #Haynes #Motorworks #Maintenance #Valveclearances
Great video I just got a new to me 2013 g 650gs sertao . I'm saving this video in my motorcycle yourtube video file . It only has 4,000 miles on it but I'm just getting ready . I have a question about the shims . I have never changed shims before . How does the sizing of the shims work and how do you figure out what size you need ?
Thanks for your kind words Steve. I’ve only ever had a shim out once when my friend Paul was helping me but from what I can recall we just measured the gap using the gauges and if one was out of tolerance you would remove the shim and then order a new one to the correct size. They rarely need adjusting so measure up carefully first and if you need to make adjustments refer to a manual. Changing the shims requires the removal of the cam shafts which I would not be comfortable doing on my own :)
Katy, I have a 2002 BMW F650gs and when I checked my Haynes manual, it says intake should be 0.10 to 0.15 intake and exhaust 0.25 to 0.30 is this correct?
Hiya, I don’t have my manual to hand at the moment but if you check the crossroadz f650 website it says there was a revision from the early single spark manuals. Amended to inlet 0.03-0.11mm and exhaust 0.25-0.33mm. Hope that helps. :)

@@HaynesGarage thank you so much!! I was going crazy for the past few days trying to figure out which was the correct specs!! LOL
@@HaynesGarage 0 03 is very tight, bearing in mind that clearances diminish with time.
You should have bought a bmw f650 funduro, everything is a lot easier to do , good luck !!
hehe thank you
