Lee, I recently purchased an old Alcort/AMF Sunfish in the 32### range that was in mint condition with the idea of seeing if I liked racing it before moving up to newer equipment. The hull is like no other I have ever seen, even from that generation. It has a light stipple on it, everywhere. Almost like they thermoformed a piece of plastic and then fiberglassed a backing on it. Have you ever seen this? I am wondering if I can sand it down as I would with gel coat, using progressively higher number papers?
I have not seen anything like that. Maybe it is a bad paint job? You definitely can sand the hull…. If you would like, send me a picture of it by email. Leejmontes@yahoo.com

Hi hector. There are plenty of good sites…. And I don’t exclusively recommend any particular shop. Locally i goto the dinghyshop.com, and sunfishdirect, velasails, and you can google many others. Hope this helps. :).
