We’re out of the pandemic now though- there’s more and more competition among retailers and express stores don’t have the same footprint. At my nearest mall, I’ve seen Lucky, Gap and Banana Republic all shut their doors in the past year or so. Express doesn’t surprise me at all. Especially since they do all these online sales- the brick and mortar stores are becoming irrelevant.
In late 2020 Simon and Brookfield bailed out JC Penney to avoid having major vacancies in their malls. I suspect they're bailing out Express for the same reason.
