I ask for art supplies for every holiday. Chocolate on Valentine’s Day? Nah, get me paint lol. Recently I’ve been playing with fluid acrylics. They can be thinned down to mimic watercolor. The golden brand has amazing colors, and I like that you can build up layers without disturbing the under layers. They are pretty transparent. Love your gouache painting! I would never have been able to build all those layers!

This is beautiful! I don't know anything about gauche but I'm obsessed with soft pastels and watercolour pencils over markers. The softly textured but vibrant gradients I can achieve with pastels and the sharper texture from the pencils adds a lot of interest and softness to my marker work. :3

Love the piece! Haven't seen the show, looked a little too dark for me but I love the '90s show that started it all! Sabrina the Teenage Witch! You could always watch that while you're waiting for the next season to come out.

You said about it not being for bigger illustrations for yourself since you like a lot of textures and using a lot of mediums, so I bet gouache could be an interesting addition for some pieces. I’ve been really enjoying chilling adventures of sabrina and I’ve only seen I believe one other artist I follow doing artwork of it so I was excited when I saw this pop up in notifications! Love how it turned out!

I definitely prefer water color to gouache but I do like some of its benefits way more. Typically with water color, you have to work light to dark, but you can use gouache to go back and forth with a values. It's very much like a watercolor that dries like a acrylic. I love the video and am so glad to see you work with this medium!

I love watercolors and gouache. I use watercolors for softer colors or for base colors and put gouache on top to make sure I like the colors before I put it on

Gwash is how it’s come to be known in the US and online, but it historically and in art schools it’s generally pronounced Goo ache. So technically both are accepted.

I love the new Sabrina show. Have you read the comic it’s based on? It’s nothing like the show but still worth the read. Also, I use a combination of watercolors and gouache when I paint. I love the effect. Gouache also mixes with watercolors without a problem which is nice.

I really like gouache because you can use it as a light watercolor or as a opaque medium and it also comes with the benefit of laying down flat in the even. Which is sooo satisfying to me. You could also cover up mini watercolor mistakes with it with layers. One of the only only downside is that I can think of is sometimes it will dry a different color this may depend on the bland that you using some change more drastically than other, which makes me alittle anxious while painting.

Omg I love Sabrina! And I loved your illustration, I’ve been using gouache for a couple years and I’ve noticed that it really depends on the brand if i like it or not 😅 the reeves where awful once I tried other local brand 😂

Birds are SO FUN to paint in gouache because the layered feathering effects are just really nice. I think you should also try out a wet-in-wet technique with the gouache because it makes the same sort of effect as watercolor but it reacts just a little differently. Hard to explain it, but it's beautiful. I am mainly a watercolor artist as well, but the gouache gives amazing control so I use it in combination with watercolors a lot. You can see some of my work on Instagram @rhiannacampbellart

I'm in love with Sabrina, this is so purdyyy!!!!
Try combining watercolours with gouache for really bold colours against translucent wc's. I only have white, black and primarys but tbf black and white alone is enough. Try mixing white with wc's (metallics i you have them, they're my fave!) for some really pretty pastel colours or try painting with them on brown/kraft card, they are so vibrant on kraft card ♡
Would suggest trying to draw a mermaid scene with the paatels or something, really pretty ♡

Also if you want to upgrade, the winsor newton are brilliant and they're usually on sale for £2.50-3.50 in cassart :3

I too have tried oil paints but just could not get on with them ,I prefer watercolours myself..my main medium is Pencil ,I taught myself to blend etc and worked on teams as I was making cards at the time..,but I like to do my own bits ,I have decided to concentrate more on my art now ,I have just sent for a set of those off EBay as I want to add some flowers to a piece I have started but forgot to draw on lol..so I hope this works ..will see lol..I love you work it’s so varied and you try all sorts too..and not just the expensive..A lot of artist who do not show but do for the joy cannot always afford a £200 set of watercolour paints ,even if they are told they are a good price..lol..however I have got Three expensive sets of pencils which are my babies lol ..thanks for the fab video and she is just beautiful 😀

I've been really tempted to try gouache pastely. And at those 14 Euros for the 21ml tube 24 pcs that they are at Amazon right now, I'm really really itching to just treat myself all over again 😅
Also, I think you did a great bo with the piece :)

I've seen a lot of people use gouache in place of a white pen for highlights on all sorts of mediums.

I have the same set of gouache! I personally really do not like this set. The consistency is so hit and miss with it, very streaky too , at least for me ! I'm using it just for practise so I don't mind all that much. Your piece came out looking great :D

Gouache is fun! I used it once for an assignment. All though, the red that I got was more like a pink, so that made the whole peace too pastel and feminine for me... 10 pounds only though? Nice, mine were like almost $10 a piece!

the number one medium I can´t get on but refuse to give up completely is watercolour. At least in my experience, it´s a very unpredictable and unforgiving medium.
I´d like to try gouache, but itś not sold in local art stores and I´m not a big fan of ordering online from abroad
